Hi.

I am WorldRadio.mobi formerly cy4uim. I have been away but now I am back thankful to RJ and the special NamePros, I have been on the other forums talking about this point so I wanted to mention it here as well, very important:
For those who are letting it go and accepting dot mobi as part of their domainer backyard now..

-----------------------------------------------

"What if I wanted to access full blown .com site on PDA and redirected me to mobile?

Who has actually tried the latest PDA's/cell phone evolution?

This question is for all the techies who say "why can't you just use the dot com" to do the same thing detect your mobile and redirect you to a mobile version of the site?

Now what if I was in some resort and I needed to access and communicate on the full version of a site like a desktop with my pda and I couldn't? Because I was automatically redirected to a smaller content version mobile site?

Full information,

that's what .com is for..

Less information optimized for any accessing device on the go,

thats what .mobi is for..

The pda should be able to see both by choosing .com or .mobi

Power to the user.

The mobile revolution is now, will it wait till every site in the world has a mobile redirect?!

Plus, this flipside, I need to be able to access full blown .com scrolling sites (desktop version) on the go with my PDA!

What's next, coding for medium size device detecting screens? An option would be best use a DotMOBI redirect then.. to keep the .com fully blown featured site accessible by all sized devices.

Whereas .mobi can be accessed by computer, the .com fully blown site needs to be accessible by mobile as well. This point is often overlooked, needs to be pumped up.

This is the flipside..

Dot Mobi, Flip!

Good points all the way around. :tu:

I agree that their has to be that defined line between .com and .mobi

Up until now, the only choice for sites to offer mobile content was to use a redirect or advertise an non-friendly url like mobile.website.com or website.com/mobile

Now that .mobi is here (and its not going anywhere) it only makes sence to use it as intended, and leave .coms for the PCs.

The mobile internet revolution begining to sprout, and I think .mobi has arrived at the perfect time. 3-5 years from now everyone will use the internet on there phone the way they talk on them now.

Why .mobi is useful

Why .mobi is useful

------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Taken from my reply on a Yahoo Mobile NP thread, I'd like to continue the discussion of it and awareness of this perspective here, its a very important point for discussion I feel:)

The funny thing is that some companies like Google have yet to be awakened to the trend that a forced mobile redirect to a lesser content mobile version on the .com will not allow users with a PDA to access the full version .com site with features and just scrollbars!

They are jipping the user experience!

This is why dotmobi IS uselful.

The ideal way for power to the user experience is for the .com PC version to be consistent with the .com PDA access and medium screens as well.

Let the users have a choice between a mobile version .mobi and still the full blown .com experience with scrollbars!

Its best if the device detect and redirect was done on the .mobi. That way it frees up access for a PDA or medium screen user experience to still have accessible the full features of the .com site on the any mobile device anywhere.

Who knows what will manifest, maybe in time they will see this, but just advocating now for the user's power point of view not the forced tech capability point of view. DotMobi believers and bashers should be aware of this point..

Happy 2007

Regards,

Excellent point. Fully agree.

Why no script on the .com, put the script on the dot mobi :)

Here is a test..

You know from your desktop computer that if you wanted to go to "adwords" it would be a 2 click from Google.com

Now, open up your PDA and type in Google.com. Now try to go to adwords from there?

Can you?

A "script" redirect on the .com standard limits the user experience; we should be able to see on the PDA the same thing (but with scrollbars) that we see on the computer desktop. On the go, such access is needed..

What are the implications?

The info that exists today is the .com, as we evolve, the full blown info .com sites out there need to be preserved and accessible by people on the go..

So the full info .com needs to be preserved not a script redirect.

Do the script redirect on the dotmobi :)
From PDA--> MediumScreens-->Desktop

Power and advocacy for the user :xf.love:
