Who is to Blame for the Troubled US Economy?
What was the original source for the vague thread title? Why isn't there an option " I don't think the U.S. economy is troubled? " Your poll assumes all voters believe that the U.S. economy has either always been troubled, or at one point the U.S. economy wasn't troubled and it became troubled (and is now either still troubled or no longer troubled). Very vague thread that will probably never end. All economies are troubled.

Who is "we"? Someone who doesn't even live on the continent really has no 'skin' in the game. I suppose if I lived on a island in the Mediterranean I might have a more insular opinion.

And yes, as the pendulum swings, a right-wing autocracy south of the border is definitely likely, and that likelyhood doesn't make me feel any safer.

At least Gilsan can call a woman "she" without worrying about being charged with a hate crime.

Predictable response mate. When did the bible start? Do you believe that? Original source? Just because a discussion started a very long time ago doesn't mean you can't question its original premise. Which I'm doing by asking the question. Just seems like a thread that was started on a false assumption and will go on forever. I could be wrong.

Dude... When the first post was made in 2012 the USA was in a recession. The economy dominated political debate. "to big to fail" ring a bell ?

So you didn't actually read the articles?

2) https://justice.gc.ca/eng/csj-sjc/pl/identity-identite/statement-enonce.html

This is an asinine leap into madness. The bill adds “gender expression” and “gender identity” to Canada’s Human Rights Code and to the Criminal Code’s hate crime section.

I know it's hard to believe that they would actually pass a law declaring using imaginary genders and pro-nouns a human right, and not using imaginary pro-nouns a hate crime.

But don't worry, they would never enforce such a law. LOLOLOLOL.

Face it. Progressive liberals have become the political party of degenerates. Good is bad, bad is good. Promoting gender confusion, calling opposing views hate speech, segregating people by race, dramatic claims of personal harm when faced with unwanted truths.

Lila Thomas is a man. The women he competes against hate it but are afraid to say anything. Bigger bones, bigger heart, bigger muscles, bigger hands, bigger feet, stronger ligaments, faster reflexes.

If his competitors had any backbone, they would refuse to compete but are so afraid of being ruined and branded as a bigot for the rest of their lives, they write letters and let their parents protest for them.

Not that it makes any difference, but thanks for the geography correction - a remote island in the Atlantic Ocean.

I think it's fair to say this his location is far less remote than yours. There's reasonably-sized city there, and the place gets a steady stream of tourists from all over Europe when they are not all locked in their homes in fear of viruses - and a fair number of expats living there I think. We are all affected by US politics to one degree or another, either by megalomaniacal US policies or by the spread of the mental illness and delusions that have seized much of the population there.

Canada, for purposes of this discussion, is really not very different from the US, sorry to say. When the US deep state says jump, your leaders ask "how high?" Didn't used to be that way - you once accepted those fleeing the Vietnam War draft. Nowadays, Canada would throw those same people in jail and deport them - to he cheers of "liberals."

Turns out "the end of democracy" is progressive communist not getting what they want.

Now knowing that these progressive people do not like Americas Republic for which it stands , these people have voiced it in the streets . All over social networks , Reddit and ect .. if these people are not an enemy of the state , then what are they ??

No offense taken, lol. Though I admit having noisy neighbours to the south can be disquieting at times. :xf.wink:

Though our future is tied to the US, because of its relative financial and political stability, Canada is considered to be a full democracy (not a left-wing dictatorship as @GILSAN suggests).

That's a relative thing, and very much up to the judgment of the Economist writers. Japan is also a full democracy (unlike the US, which the Economist ranks as a flawed democracy), yet there is plenty of injustice here. Governments, as a rule, are against democracy because that limits their powers. That's why the weakest governments are probably better than a strong government. Enforcement of power is a huge factor that is never addressed. Both the US and Canada are heavily regulated societies. To use a small example, traffic laws are broken all the time in Japan. If I cross a solid line in the street or go 20km over the speed limit, nothing will happen. If I try either in Switzerland, there's a good chance I will set off a sensor and camera that will result in a heavy fine being invoiced to me days later. As a result, driving in Japan is fun while driving in Switzerland is immensely stressful.

How is your future as a Canadian enhanced by your leaders cooperating in US foreign war campaigns, jailing political dissidents and journalists, and otherwise selling out your sovereignty to a country that so many Canadians perversely feel they are superior to?

Japanese society demands conformity, foreigners will always be gaijin. I lived in Europe, wasn't a big fan of driving there - too many cops.

What's with the passive aggressive attitude all of a sudden? You just said Canada wasn't much different than the US... we're just not so caught up in all the labels.

Plus the fact that the Canadian government has acknowledged past wrong doings, clearing the way for self-empowerment to all citizens. ie. Truth and Reconciliation. Today the federal government settled in principle:

In 2016, the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal found the federal government discriminated against First Nations children and said Canada's actions led to "trauma and harm to the highest degree, causing pain and suffering."

You're kind of diving into a huge array of different discussions, but sticking to the core of your sentiment...

All that matters is whether or not you accept that there are people who do not feel that their gender matches their physical sex.

You don't accept that, and thus refuse to offer those people the basic human right of being addressed as the gender they identify with. This law is for people who feel the way you feel. It addresses a form of harassment and discrimination that (as you have shown) is very real.

Racial equality, sexual equality, gender equality. They're all human rights. You don't get to pick and choose which person can be accepted as their true selves and which can't. And at the end of the day... how does it hurt you to respect such a simple request?
