You forgot to subtract the savings.
My insurance premiums are over $7,000/year for the cheapest bronze plan and will surely go up next year. If let's say I pay $5000 more in taxes but don't have to pay insurance premiums (and potentially up to $2500 in medical expenses out of pocket before I start to see a penny of my premiums back) it's a win.
If employers have similar savings, that's money back into the business.
That's all I have to say. Carry on arguing with each other.
Everybody has to pay. Policy Must be more than one person too. I think you live in the most taxed state too if I recall correctly. 10 years ago when I had my business, I was paying like $1000. a month with $2000 deductable for “Blue Shaft” Insurance. Never used it once, no issues, no pre existing just subsidizing the rest of Californians who were non payers. One of many reasons I left.
I have a friend on East Coast whose healthy professional son makes low 6 figures. He was paying 24,000 a year for Obamacare subsidizing the non paying people. Such a lovely program and wealth transfer.
I now have by choice reduced all expenses happily living outside Hateville, USA, but required to pay national insurance and private, a fraction of before. Never used it thankfully. Pay cash for small things.
Insurance refuse to pay claims and rip off Doctors and patients, Doctors overcharge Insurance Companies, patients misrepresent and cheat the system- its a big vicious circle and always has been. Socialized medicine locally recently neglected a friends serious condition and he died, its not the answer. Its really a mess.
I have a friend who shut down his practice after 30+ years due to high risk and low reward and insurance companies low payments. Another Doctor friend who had a group practice also shut it down. Everybody is to blame. PI lawyers too.
Private Non Profit Clinics should be part of the system for low income and non emergencies instead of running to Emergency rooms forcing treatments. I was born when Hospitals actually cared about people and were operated by Churches. No nurses union b.s., no malpractice issues, just a hospital system not operated to make maximum profits on Wall Street. Doctors made good money then. They deserve it. Now CEO’s with MBA’s make much more than Neurosurgeons. Stupid IMO.
