It seems .PRO is slowly coming out of the cage with cheaper reg prices than they were a year ago and major registrars like netsol taking notice of the extension and promoting it. B-)

Here are some that I picked up in last couple of days:

Alexandria.pro

Anchorage.pro

Arlington.pro

Belfast.pro

Birmingham.pro

Budapest.pro

Durham.pro

Fairfax.pro

Italian.pro

Lisbon.pro

Fire away with your regs after the relaunch on September 8th, 2008.

Yes but .mobi started off with a fantastic registry but was fundamentally flawed in terms of purpose and brandability. .pro is exceptionally brandable but ironically had an amateurish registry. .mobi grew extremely fast but ran out of puff and fell off a cliff, .pro grew very slowly but continues to grow month on month. I have received offers for 3 .pros so far today, presumably on the back of the interest the Afilias acquisition is generating. I also had two modest sales over the holidays, selling Seminar.pro and Venture.pro for $1,500 each. Afilias buying .pro won't change anything overnight, but it will lead to more registries selling it, lower registration fees, and more recognition and interest.

Which three domains? What were the offers? Real, tangible information could prove very useful to others. IMO

Let's just say I sell my .pro domains for an average of 75-100 times what you sell your .coms for on eBay.

Did the Heritage Universalist Unitarian Church thank you for their $4.10? The Lord works in mysterious ways.

I particularly like the accompanying sales patter "This is one of those rare domains that has a tangible value. Like gold, it has a value that you can touch and feel. There is no guess work with this domain. It is powerful and has established demand."

BTW, how did u make the sale?emailing end-users or?

All the .pro sales i've had have been end users coming to me. This one was via an offer on sedo just after the godaddy sales. There have been quite a few lowball offers on sedo also tho.
Congrats!
Thanks

$2200 is at this point a very low price and not a good sale. It’s missing a 2 and is worth $22,200 this year.
I'm happy with the price as it came at the right time. I think your valuation may be a tad high, I used the .me price of 5300 and the mobi price of 1500 as outlyers when considering my final price. Also sold style in december for a similar price. GKjunior would you mind editing full name of the domain.tld please I'm keen it does not get indexed out of respect for the buyer. Thanks :)

I'll look forward to see how pro prices go this year.

@sdsinc

Do you own any .pro domain or have any intention to buy one?
Heaven forbids. A wise person learns from his/her own mistakes, an even wiser person learns from the mistakes of others %%-

Hard to refuse 4 figure offers when the 2013 extension dilution around the corner
2013 will only be the release, be another 5-10 years for these extensions to make a dent and then how many will be as valuable as .pro?

It's 'established' as compared to new gtlds,
It's a common prefix and suffix
and it is only 3 letters, unlike most new gtlds.

...as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
I'd drop all three, go for commercially viable keywords, that's where the big money is.

But I have to agree that it would be hard to refuse four figure offers for almost anything that I own.
I'm getting less and less inclined to sell anything for less than four figures tbh, in real business terms even $10,000 is 'cheap' if you really think about it. Heck it would cost as much to attend a major conference including air fare, hotel stay hospitality and conference fee... and that's just for one person.

Oh and had a few people question whether there really was an offer so:

Excluding Hostway's zip .pros, total .pros registered to February 2012 increased by 6.7% in the month to 93,558. The year on year % increase rose for an 8th consecutive month to 57.8%, this is the highest year on year % rise since October 2009, the month after the September 2009 relaunch. Average daily WHOIS searches rose to a new all time high of 42,924.

"could it be you have the .pro bug ?"

It appears I am in the early stages of the disease :)

I am starting to like .pro. Certainly fits right in with the new gtlds coming out. Maybe the .pro registry will invest some marketing dollars to get the word out when the time is right.

I hand registered http://WantedToBuy.pro (okay to post domain here?) and started up a little side business for buying stuff locally.

Thanks Jurgen for the russian forum link. Here is the google russian .pro forum translation. I can only imagine that .pro will emerge as a leading extension in the near future as I think it is being more recognized in russia and europe than the US.

Maybe some of you have seen this, but DomainIncite published this (and hey they are smart enough to own domainincite.pro)

"I understand that cleaning up and reinvigorating .pro’s image has been put firmly on the Afilias agenda in recent months. It’s a great string, and I reckon it could do well with the proper marketing." Read full article here on .pro domains

Total .pros registered increased by 4.1% in October 2012 to 144,477. Registrations are up 91.3% year on year, the highest percentage since September 2009. Average daily WHOIS searches were up 2.7% in October 2012 to 92,900. RU Center is now the the biggest .pro registrar with 22,497 compared to 21,949 for Encirca. Encirca had been the biggest .pro registrar for 3 years.

To hell with .PRO domains. The .PRO registry is full of it. It's hard to sell their domains because of their infantile BS restrictions that make no sense.

Why do I say they make no sense?

Because, for example, a professional software engineer, cannot be recognized as a professional by dot pro registry because SW engineers are not licensed by the state. The other thing is that a professional recognized by the registry can register any stupid name whether it has anything to do with their profession or not, like foobird.pro or jibbyjabbit.pro ad infinitum.

So a notary public can register any and all .PRO domains with impunity, but a Software Engineer, even a high profile one, let's say Bill Gates or Steve Jobs can't. It's just insanity. The .PRO registry should be put out of business and its badly managed misery and I will help by not renewing or registering any more stupid .PRO domains. Waste of time and money. The .PRO registry can shove it into their stupid hypocritical place where the sun don't shine.

I'm done.

As Afilias has announced at ICANN54: .PRO will become an unrestricted TLD open to all registrants

Since its launch in 2002, .PRO eligibility has been restricted to only certain specified professions, and registrars have been required to implement special procedures in order to register .PRO names.

These restrictions and procedures will be eliminated on November 16. .PRO registration requests no longer need to include the supplemental data (profession, authority name, authority URL, license number) which was previously required. Thus, the extensions X-PRO-PROFESSION, X-PRO-AUTHORITY, X-PRO-LICENSE-NUMBER and X-PRO-AUTHORITY-WEBSITE will become obsolete. Renewals, transfers, etc will be handled according to the revised policies beginning on November 16.

This change is a result of the renewal of the .PRO Registry Agreement under new terms recently entered into between Registry Services Corporation and ICANN.

This creates a significant sales opportunity for registrars, as many registrars have had to disappoint registrants in the past who were looking for a .PRO name. The change in eligibility will open the TLD to ALL registrants. The registry expects to continue to market .PRO as the domain for professionals, but the target market will expand dramatically to include businesses, service providers and individuals who consider themselves to be a "PRO".
