Hi everyone! The 3D market appears to be exploding! Record takes at the box office by movies such as Avatar and Alice in Wonderland and the announcement this week of the new 3D TV which is set to hit markets shortly have helped buoy interest in 3D multimedia platforms. Even the major American television network NBC has jumped in and will be broadcasting the NCAA Final Four basketball games in 3D!

A direct beneficiary from this renewed interest and greatly improved 3D technology is the domain business. Some of you had foresight many years ago and reg'd great names early on. Others (myself included) have only become aquainted with 3D domaining more recently, but see the huge potential this market has opened up for domainers.

Let this be the place for you to show off your 3D domain names. Ask for opinions, marketing strategies or even an appraisal or guesstimation of value. Also, feel free to post any relevant news releases/articles related to the 3D industry.

I will start the thread off with a few of my own reg's..

3DHighDefinitionTV.com (also have plural)
3DHomeEntertainment.co.uk
3DHometheaters.org
3DStreamingMovie.com
3DVancouver.com
3DWhistler.com

3-D TV is anticipated to be the next paradigm for home consumer entertainment. The media research company Screen Digest forecasts that 22 percent of TVs sold worldwide by 2014 will be 3-D capable. It is also anticipating that all major manufacturers of TV equipment will launch 3-D capable TV sets this year.

The new 3-D services powered by the Cisco Content Delivery System will be made available in Numericable's footprint in late 2010. More information on availability and pricing will be published closer to launch.

The rapid and massive roll-out of 3DTV continues with a major announcement from Cisco and NumeriCable of France:

Numericable Builds True High-Definition 3-D Video-on-Demand Platform with Cisco

"Numericable will evolve its network into a powerful medianet – an all-Internet Protocol network optimized for rich media – which will allow the company to deploy a new HD 3-D VOD experience that surpasses any other 3-D service available today."

Here in the States Imagine Communications will be making a similar announcement on May 10th:
Imagine Communications Unveils 3D and TV Anywhere Video Processing Solutions at The Cable Show 2010

Both developments are fantastic, but a Cisco powered online 3D network would be an incredible tipping point for the mass adoption of 3D. Consumers have already shown a willingness to pay a premium for 3D so a VOD network makes *sense*.

Good News :bingo:

Another one for me too

3D-DC.com = 3D Desktop Computer

I'm thinking that the hyphen doesn't hurt too much in this instance and I can put up a mini-site to earn the reg fees back.

Hi guys

I've added a new 'beta/trial' page to my 3D website/blog where its possible to list available (for sale, 3D related only ) domain names. Considering that im getting better hits on the blog these days, I thought it might be a good idea to list the available good quality 3D names on the site. Dunno if its a good idea but I thought its worth trying. So please feel free to list your quality 3D related domains which you're willing to part with at my blog 3Dtouch(dot)me.

Thanks!

It is also anticipating that all major manufacturers of TV equipment will launch 3-D capable TV sets this year.

Futuresource, a "research and knowledge-based consulting firm" out of England, claims -in their latest market study, that...

"Within four years, 50 percent of U.S. homes will own a 3D-ready TV, and the adoption of 3D–Ready Blu-ray players won’t be far behind—with one out of every three U.S. homes owning one."

Of course its easy to make bold claims that will get your firm quoted in the Press, so I took a look at what they claimed about 3D market penetration a year ago... and they seemed to be on-the-money, if not a little conservative, as they stated -in June of 2009, that 12% of American households will have a 3D TV by the end of 2010.

Check out the statement in the vid below. While most of the presentation is nothing new -at this point in 2010, there are a few data nuggets worth minding.

That's a lot less crazy than some of the other domains in this thread. First, seriously, think about this iconic moment in American movies:

2rp4d3l.jpg

No idea how I'm screwing up this image, but enter it in your browser and you'll see what I mean

Second, there are various technologies that could be showcased on such a domain, if you wanted to do some development. In the early 1990s I hung out with a bunch of stoners (I, um, used it purely for medicinal purposes myself) and I bought a decorative box at Sharper Image that projected a 3D image of its contents on the top of the box. I'd put a lighter in it and let the fun write itself as one half-baked idiot after another tried to pick the lighter up off the top of the box. Stuff like that still exists, and while it might be trivial nonsense, it's trivial nonsense that sells.

There's also this kind of tech:

Toshiba Flatbed 3D Display: Science Fiction in the News
Toshiba Interactive 3D Display Video At SEATAC 2006: Science Fiction in the News

So no, I actually think that domain has a lot of potential -- maybe not from a pure reseller standpoint but from an actual, currently-available monetisation standpoint.
