Hello everyone,

I think this is the longest gap I’ve taken in between two posts but I’m sure this will come as a surprise to many of my fellow domain investors that I’m leaving Afternic.com

As many of my readers know that since January 2020, I’ve been using Afternic.com price request lander. It’s been almost 6 years using them and I had an overall great experience. With all the challenges and ups and downs including economic crisis and uncertainty in global market due to wars, I still had many extra ordinary months with the help of Afternic team. It was really nice working with so many Afternic brokers and especially my rep Adam Ramsdell who did all his best he could to get the maximum sales out of my portfolio. I sincerely appreciate Adam and the entire team whoever was involved in getting the sales happen smoothly.

There are two main reasons for leaving Afternic:

  1. I’m no longer interested in paying any commission.
  2. Like the way I opted Afternic from Uniregistry, now I would like to prefer handling and managing the portfolio and leads myself.
Overall, it’s been a rollercoaster ride with a lot of inconsistencies which I believe is part of the business especially domain investing. It took a lot of time to think and decide about this decision but I believe now is the right time to go and move onto the next level of my domaining journey.

Currently I’m in the process of trying something new and I’ll share more details in my next post, so stay tuned.

Thank you!

Any buyer wanting to use GD checkout link for one of my domains will have to bear the 5% fees.

I suppose he's making the right choice; marketplaces can be a nightmare at times. If I could create my own card processing system like Stripe without relying on any 3rdparty platform for cc processing, I would definitely do it.

@alcy,

did u know afternic has 5% checkout link if u bring your lead?

I used that service, and my payout has been in process for a month and two weeks. Every time I reach out, they provide different excuses. That was my first sale, and it was painful...

Initially, I thought the processing time for payouts was unusually long, especially since I had selected an ach option. But an experienced colleague informed me that it doesn’t actually take that long.
I hope they review this and proceed with the payment or release the domain. I give my tithes, and no one can take what's mine...

Thanks for sharing your experience with GD checkout link service. That's sad to hear. Very bad.

Mr.Abdul, do you advice us to remove domains from Afternic? I honestly did not had anything this year from them or Atom, only my personal website brought leads.
Lately my intuition told me about Atom, that premium listings are working on the back of non premium ones, bring more domains so they have premium sales. Maybe it's time to tell them all goodbye.

I will accept lower sales but won't pay higher commission to anyone just because I'm not using their nameservers 😀 (25% commission).

I've delisted all my domains at Afternic so no distribution sales will happen.

It sounds like you plan to remove your domain names from ALL marketplaces, i.e Afternic, Sedo, Atom, Spaceship, etc since you plan to no longer pay any commission?

Is that correct?
Plus, do you think savings in commission justify the forfeiture of Afternic/Sedo's extensive reach?

For your new landers, do you plan to develop an in-house lander or use a free option like NamePros?

By the way, your Afternic Experiment/Experience articles were a major part of the reason I used the Afternic RP Lander for a while. I had to change back to BIN because the stalled and confused leads were too much.

Hope you do something similar for your new experiment.

Correct. I've delisted my domains from Afternic and Sedo.

Not in-house lander. I'll share more details on my blog within the next 48 hours so stay tuned.

It was overall a great experience using Afternic Price Request lander. But it's time to move onto next level.

Don't forget to toss a batch up on NamePros Landers (At 0% commission and no fees) to test them out as well. Especially since you can customize and monetize them yourself. ;)

It’s interesting to see that Alter, which was once a domain marketplace, is now using a simple Google Form as a landing page to sell its own domain name! I think this is a smart and cost-effective approach that other domain investors could also consider.

That's an interesting idea.

Important caveat: Mainland China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, etc. cannot use Google Forms reliably due to national blocks/sanctions. This approach will limit how many buyers can contact you.

This is also an issue with all services that rely on Google reCAPTCHA. That's why our landers use Cloudflare's solution instead so you don't miss out on any buyers, regardless of their region.

Using a Google form as a landing page seems kind of lazy and unprofessional.

They should at least secure their form using TLS, so that data isn't intercepted. This is a major oversight.

Thank for sharing Abdul. Your decision is final to demonstrate your experience and your expertise.

Its like remind us about real estate / property industry, where most of real estate sales only charge 2,5% - 5% or less and the broker really do everything, find potential buyers, call / phone the prospect, motivated to drive leads, and whatever to make a sale.

They are totally aggressive to hunt the potential buyer, no lazy and fully work to achieve their target.

But in domaining, most of broker only wait or only follow up our own lead and we probably pay laziest broker for their sleeping
