.tv Still a vast descrepancy

Now that the Sedo auction has concluded, many of the names have been paid for and some of them have been reported at dnjournal. Majority of the .Tv names that sold in auction were to RESELLERS and investors, not end users (with a few exceptions).

Its clear that these names were purchased as an investment, meant for resale. If these names are selling at $XX,XXX that means reselling these names will come at a much much higher price (unless they want to unload).

It seems to me that most of the folks here are content to turn over names at a high rate and low price in favor of any profit that may come. I love profit of any kind, but it creates a vast descrepancy in percieved value amongst the domain community IMO.

There have been two major influences on the .tv market over the last 5 years;

First was Demand media taking over the direction and marketing of .tv - IMO it was boost and hype that artificially inflated the market. Under these circumstances I can understand the need for quick turn-around, buy low, sell for any profit asap!

This time around I feel it is completely different. The only thing really holding back the extension Premium renewals, as everyone knows, has been removed. This greatly increases the longevity and positive effects of great results form the sedo auction.

This has spurred even the most skeptical and seasoned domainers to take note and invest, not just small investing either. If you buy Business.tv for $100k how much do you resell it for? $500k, $1 million, if you buy learn.tv for $41k how much do you resell that for? $75k $100k? I only see the high end sales getting bigger and better.

Currently there is a vast descrepancy between forum to forum sales and large venue sales. This will always happen to a degree, but I hope for everyones sake, the gap between the two closes!

I am going to start submitting my domains to large scale events no reserve and see what happens!

Best of luck to everyone out there in .tv land!

these names and more might resell for much lower too. hold on too long and you'll find that at some point domains, all domains, will be renedered virtually valueless by some confluence of tech advances.

while its great to have a domain and a dream there are numerous risks to speculation and in a pinch one can easily lose almost everything spent acquiring what were certain to be big winners.

Certainly, losing money on a domain is always possible. Especially when you invest big. It is an inherent risk among every TLD.

While there are risks, I doubt buyers of high end names had the goal of a quick flip. Buying a $40k name just to sell it immediately for $43k or a loss seems illogical, of course extenuating circumstances can always play a part and cause the sale of a domain at a loss.

It seems more likely that their intentions are to make a profit and sell it for more money than they paid. While they won't succesfully sell every name at a profit, they won't lose money on every name either. I expect bigger and higher sales regardless of the names that lose money.

Reselling business.tv with a profit: easier said than done.
I'm not even talking about a quick flip, that is out of the question.

I am waiting for the tech advances where one of the girls on Prostitution.tv jumps out my computer and "gives me some love":)

It is no different to a guy spending $1000, just the amount is 40 times greater. Don't think the motivations are going to suddenly change.

I do not think any of the tech adnaces will make domain names redundant. Everbody used to have a name and addresss and will have in future. Similarly everyone needs to remember how to access a site and what better solution than a name.

Definitely Usual Suspectยฉ RESELLERS ... results (and their specific motivations) are still inconclusive, as we're still waiting for many Sedo .TV "reported sales" on the DNJ, as well as verifications of Whois updates / "buyers"! :gl:

OR, perhaps "Business.TV" (a la "Flowers.MOBI") is valued at Mid - High $XX,xxx in one year's time? :guilty:

Having No Reserve Prices should give a better, or generally more clear, indication of its real market value, IMHO. :talk:

All the best,
