I run a number of businesses and would like to ask an opinion.

So lets say in your business you have a great big room (I mean the size of a car dealership showroom) and someone walks in with a family and after a few minutes you get this overpowering smell of body odor. It turns out it is mostly the father but the whole family could get a lesson on hygiene. When approached by the father with a question I found the odor so overpowering that it made me nauseous, I thought my god how can anyone smell so bad. Now don't get me wrong, we have all been in line at the bank and had to put up with some serious stink but the person I am talking about was 1000 times worse. I have NEVER smelled something so bad in all my life.

After what seemed an eternity the family left and I opened up all the doors and windows for the rest of the day. I swear it made no difference, the placed reeked to high heaven. The next day I came in the place still reeked, I could not believe it..... what the hell.... it was the next day. It drove me mad, everywhere I went that smell was there. For a whole freaking week, I swear I smelled it every time I walked back in.

    So here we go....

The guy makes a call in to make an appointment to do business. I think OMG by all that is holy in this world I do not want this guy back in my place of business.

What do you do?..... What do you say?

Seriously.... it was exactly like this....

Perhaps he has a medical condition. End of the day, the cash does not stink:xf.smile:. Deal with it and laugh all the way to the bank.

well it's only in the mind, if you think they smell gorgeous, just think about it. Business as usual.
And when it all started, just give him a gift of strong perfume as a gift of partnership.

I can relate. I had a pawn shop. Imagine if you will, the midsouth, Bubba Jay and his sister wife come in with their 3 little cyborgs. It's August and 106 in the shade with 300% humidity, I'm talking gills behind your ears level humidity. Bubba done lost his job six years ago and he can't afford no car. You have air conditioning. What do you think Bubba, sister wife Rhonda jo, and big eye, little eye and hand face do?
I literally had to get the police to remove them from the property. I was a paramedic for 14 years. I would take the smell of death as an aftershave over putting the sibling family in a room with my ex wife.

    Yes... you get it

If someone offered me $1000 bucks to have this guy come into my house or business I would refuse because it would cost me more than that to deodorize it. Some of the members above have to understand this is not an ordinary stink. You cannot simply take money and proceed with the day. This dramatically affects your life for 1-2 weeks. I swear I could smell the stink 2 weeks later.

I'm baffled how this guys is able to walk around unaware of how bad his body odor is.

Perhaps it was a once off, perhaps he ended up in some sorta really smelly situation on that particular day that caused insane body odur, I don't know.. I can't imagine how frustrating that must have been for you.

Although, on another note... I'm just wondering though, if the smell was that strong and lingering then maybe just maybe he did that on purpose. Maybe he was fully aware how strong the smell was and was using that as a test to see how tolerant you are or if you would tell him to take a hike. Maybe after seeing that you handled it in your stride and you didn't kick him out the store, he decided that he wants to do business with you. Could end up coming in their to sign a 7 figure deal with you...lol - Far fetched I know, but anything is possible these days... :xf.grin:

Maybe get some super strong incense sticks just in case :)

    YES.
I can describe it as 3 week old sardines from under the car seat.
Your child's sippy cup of milk that probably should have stopped having smell after they reached 8th grade.
Your neighbors baby just left a grand present and the smell finally came in
Take all that and mix it up real good in a blender along with the vomit you should be projecting exorcist style. Put it all in the oven and bake at 300 for 90 minutes.

I would give that to my fiance on our wedding day in Patagonia Arizona in the Sonora desert before I would spend 2 minutes in a 60x100 warehouse with Bubba after he showered.

hope nobody on this forum suffers from a medical condition with such symptoms.

    This thread could be hurtful.

I am sure that if they do, They are pretty thick skinned... I have been around the people you are referncing in the back of an ambulance (pretty tight quarters) That is Aqua di Gio compared to this level of "stank"

Tell him your place of business is being
    • Treated by pest control
    • Remodeled
    • Fumigated
    • Demolished
And set up a meeting off site. Preferably outside.

And use something like Vick’s ointment under your nostrils to mask the smell.

    Good luck!

This reminds me of when I used to do door to door sales. I can remember one where the customers child brought their potty in the lounge and did a 'Number 2'....and they left it there the whole time!! Still made the sale I must add but i'll never forget it.:sick::sick::vomit::vomit::vomit::dead::dead::dead:

You just have to hold your breath and think of the money, unless you can afford to turn away customers because they smell bad.
