you say left i say right, you say tomaaato and you say tomahtoe LOL

They're all the same,

I'm refering to a little blurb I saw in the news about Bush calling Hillary "Formbidable" LOL.

Honestly I'm neither a lefty or a righty...and i believe our country should have more than just a two party system. I used to call myself republican pre 9/11....and then i realized life was more than just A or B, and that you can have liberal thoughts on one issue, and a conservative thought on another....but that's just one gal's take on things.....

Republicans attack Dems, and Dems attack republicans....but all in all, i believe they're all the same in the end. I'm also starting to believe that the country isn't run by the president anymore...and that the presidency has become a sort of symoblic figure like in some monarchies. I think the country is run by groups with special interests and stuff, but i'm not gonna pull a conspiracy theory thing on ya :hehe:

But just think about it....IF (AND IF) hillary does run and is elected as president, do you realize that would mean that for the past 20 years (A GENERATION) the US has been 'run' by Clintons and Bushes?

just a thought.

We do have more then 2 parties as evidenced by the members of Congress who are not Dem/Rep and even further noticed at many state levels. We have even seen a third party cause a huge swing during the Presidential election. The problem is none of the third parties are able to put together a viable candidate team and then fund it properly.

Myself? While I tend to vote along with one of the major parties it is only because my party does not have candidates at the federal level in my area. They do however have some at the state and local level and when they do, I vote for them.

wouldn't it be something if we had 4 or 5 different parties to choose from in a national election....i mean seriously. It's more or less gets kinda boring and with chocolate and vanilla, which more or less looks like a big chocolate/vanilla swirl these days

I agree with you in many ways Isis. I'm a conservative (and a proud one) but I have sided with liberal ideas on occasion and I'm not a person who is going to go always along party lines. I agree that's one of the problems with both sides.

I think what she means are parties that can truly challenge the Dems and Reps. I agree that there are certainly other parties in the American system that we have but at the same time none of them are really anywhere close to challenging either one of the big two.

I'm in a similar situation. Candidates at the local level are almost always of one party but when it comes to some of the higher state levels and nation levels, the other party wins out.

My personal preference would be for a two party system but with less distance between them. More moderates.

We have a multi party system here in Canada and I see no advantage to it at all. Only 2 parties have a legitimate chance of winning anyway so we end up with minority governments that have diluted powers and can't be effective.

I also have a problem with our electoral system. We only have one vote and that is for our local representitive. I don't see why it would be so difficult to allow one vote for a local rep. and one direct vote for PM.
