Hi all,
need some help with SnapNames, i ve never used their services, but I need a domain listed there, so I am interested in snapnames biding/buying procedure..
If i got it right, it goes like this:

- domain (expireing/pending delete) is listed at snapenames for bidding before ie. 05.05
- i bid xx$ for a domain before 05.05
- 05.05 snapnames successfully grabs the domain (if it didnt already)
- i was only bidder and i am getting domain for my xx$ OR there were also other bidders before 05.05 and we start closed/public? auction, higher bidder gets domain OR the highest bid before 05.05 gets domain?

Thnx all :)

Hi MattheP,

The process for snapnames is if you see a domain you like you bid on it the amount shown next to the domain, (that is the entry/start price). If you are the only one that bids for that start price then you get it for that price.

If there are others bidding on it then a live auction starts, usually at 8 p.m g.m.t on the date shown next to the domain. Then you usually have around two days of bidding where you log into your account and go to the active auctions section of you account, giving everyone a chance to bid and you see a run down clock when that expires the highest bidder wins and you can't put a last second bid in the hope of winning because every bid extends the clock by 5 mins, so it really is a live auction.

Hope this helps.

No, live auction is something different. Live auction means there is an expired domain reistered with a partner registrar but nobody backordered it until the given time. Instead removing those domains from the system snapnames puts them into a public aution without any bidder. Anybody can join a live auction anytime while it is running.

On the other hand, when you do backorder a domain and somebody else backorders the same domain as well then there is a private auction. The amount you enter before the auction start is not important. Always enter the minimum amount.
