Snapnames highest bid?

Hi all,

My auction at snapnames is closing tomorrow, but I'm confused by something (I'm a domain snapping virgin!)...

Under "status", I see the words "hig bid" with a green background, and under "High Bidder" it says "You!". Am I to understand that "high" means "highest", or am I merely _one_ of the "high bidders"?

I REALLY want to get this domain, so I'd be grateful for any responses... I'm just afraid that I may have been lulled into a false sense of security by a grammatical ambiguity!

Oh, by the way, is there any way to see what the highest bid is, if someone else has outbid you, or is the idea that you simply place a higher one in the hope that it'll be the highest?

A 3rd question: my "current bid" still shows the original $60 even though I've alreday increased my bid, although my new higher bid is shown under "Maximum bid". That doesn't seem to make sense to me. ISn't the higher figure my "current bid"?

Thanks

I was outbid by thetrojan (or some name like that - I can't remember) in the end. Every time I placed a new higher bid, he outbid me literally one second later. Did he have some automated code doing for him? B***ard!

{sigh}

Ahh well - It's not easy swimming in the shark pit !!! :yell:

He may have set his maximum bid to way way higher - if you place a bid that is not as high it will just say you are outbid, the price will go up just high enough to put him in the lead of your last bid - sometimes $5 a time (this varies depending on how much the current bid is)

There again, he could just be watching and doing it manually - I do !! :hehe:

What was the name ?

OK thanks guys for the info.

(Just joined Pool today too, see how that goes.)

I wasn't just asking about LLL.com's...those are out of my range at the moment, I was talking about the "little" ones like .net, .us, ,org and .info and also 3 character .com's. :)

He is proxy bidding. Snapnames allows you to set a maximum amount to counter against hte other person.

You can set a max bid too and it will keep rising as long as the other person keeps bidding so you remain up top.

Yeah I'll certainly be interested to see how much he sells all his domains on for after paying through the roof for them! I've checked all the ones I've lost out on to the high spending regulars and they all just seems to park them and wait.

Interesting thread. I had been feeling a bit small in the context of NamePros. READ: a guppy, tadpole, ameoba tiny speck of sand. I suppose it is all relative though. We all begin somewhere, and hopefully build and grow upon each success. It reminds me of my interests in Silver and my bag of coins. Compared to Warren Buffet I was nonexistent. Name Administration, I had noticed them, "him" before. They have appeared on many Who is searches of mine.

I can relate to KerriJo and the LLL.com names. I have none, though if I could I would invest in one. So like her I thought...I will start with a net, info.us. I guess everything in incremental stages. The important thing is are we having fun in the process. Only three months into this new passion of mine and I have yet to break even, but everything in due time. "Trial and error," as the saying goes.

Heres hoping we all find that gem. A Pg7 200,000 hits, high-conversion generic name we can sell for 1XX,XXX next year. :tu:

Cheers!

For any non-US-citizens, Ben Franklin was one of the founding fathers of the US who appears on the highest denomination of US currency currently issued (the $100 bill/note). The user who goes by that name has money like he was the treasury's printing press. He doesn't bid on as many as SaggyDimes and a few others do, but when he bids, he tends to win (as Netsilver pointed out). He is, unlike some of SnapNames' biggest players, however, also a big player elsewhere (some of them tend to call SnapNames home - atleast under the same user names). He is an enigma over at Pool, confusing everyone. I've won names against him that I thought he would pay fortunes for, and seen him pay fortunes for names that made me ask why he did so. Atleast with Saggydimes, Vaxis, Elliot, and the like, you know where you stand. With Ben Franklin, you only know that he is in on it and that he may or may not outbid everyone for it. The only definate is that if he wants it, he has the :$: to take it.

I'll bet he's an amazing poker player, too. ;)

Odd you would say that...I had, previously thought that myself. He must have one heck of a poker-face. Rather he does or not, he atleast can play this game well.

Good luck on your auction, I've heard Saggydimes etc are hard to beat.

PS - would you guys say that you get bargains when you use snapnames? I mean for example 3 characters...do you get the names for good prices? Or are they overinflated because of all the people bidding?

At the moment I am in a bid for znw.com - To give you an idea of how many people can be after LLL.coms at snap - there about 368 people after this one !! D-:

Currently at $2,100 with 2d 22h to go.

Holy Mackeral! So it is supreme luck to get a good name no one else wants! Snapnames has the highest drop success? I wonder why? Do you think it's their hardware?

And for any U.S. citizens who don't know their history that well :hehe:-, I'd like to point out that Ben Franklin, although quite an important figure in U.S. history, was never president, former or otherwise...

Its not so much as they have the highest drop success or their hardware is better - they get a high percentage of the better/older names because they are partnered with some of the oldest registers like NetSol.

Many of these names were reg'd years ago in the early 90's so the quality of names is very good - Remember, alot of these domains don't really drop as such anymore - they are "Passed" straight from the register to the Drop company if anyone has placed a backorder.

You definelty can get lucky and get some great names there for $60 but I very much doubt you will ever get a LLL.com / net unless you have a few thousand to spend, quiet often the mid x,xxx range.

Snapnames is always going to attract alot of attention IMO

Happy Hunting ! :)

PS - znw.com is now at $4,200 with 2d 8h to go !

dagersh,
Thanks for the correction (post edited) :p That is what happens when you view NP message boards after no sleep and with too much else on your mind :D There is a reason that posting has a "Preview Post" button - maybe I should have used that :hehe:
