Snapnames highest bid?

Hi all,

My auction at snapnames is closing tomorrow, but I'm confused by something (I'm a domain snapping virgin!)...

Under "status", I see the words "hig bid" with a green background, and under "High Bidder" it says "You!". Am I to understand that "high" means "highest", or am I merely _one_ of the "high bidders"?

I REALLY want to get this domain, so I'd be grateful for any responses... I'm just afraid that I may have been lulled into a false sense of security by a grammatical ambiguity!

Oh, by the way, is there any way to see what the highest bid is, if someone else has outbid you, or is the idea that you simply place a higher one in the hope that it'll be the highest?

A 3rd question: my "current bid" still shows the original $60 even though I've alreday increased my bid, although my new higher bid is shown under "Maximum bid". That doesn't seem to make sense to me. ISn't the higher figure my "current bid"?

Thanks

Good luck on your snap auction. I have spent too much there myself. :yell:

okay;

1. If it is Green, then you are currently the high bidder - there is only 1 highest bidder at a given time, for the time being this is you....this usually means very little, read below...

2. No, you cannot see what the highest bid is, if someone out bids you - it will say you are outbid - and you must keep bidding until your supercede their bid (or exhaust your budget, whichever comes first).

3. No, it means that several people (look at the list) have bid $60 - but you were the first to bid.

This is where the fun ends...If it a top name, and there are more than a handful of bidders - the real action starts a few hours before the auction ends...I have seen domains go from $300 - to $15k in a matter of an hour, so don't fall in love with it...yet.

Hope this helps, and Good Luck!

Thank you

Thanks a lot for your answers. OK, I'm keeping the chicken counting at bay (or rather, at ebay)!

:)

A few minutes before 32 hours from now, I'm gonna have have my first online war - should be a real hoot, though by rights, I ought to be sound asleep around then!

(Now, where did I keep that coffee....?)

Who are the other people in the auction with you? Ben Franklin, Blogger, SaggyDimes, Vaxis?

if "halvarez" and "snapwater" aren't in it, It isn't worth anything.

Yeah, I forgot about those two...

Yeah, most of bidding is done in the last few mins - It's a shame to see two people fighting it out for two days just to end up getting out bid by "the usuals" in the last few mins, it happens alot.

Well, "halvarez" and "snapwater" aren't in it, so they obviously think it isn't worth anything (TO THEM!) - but it's the perfect name for me! Of all the other people mentioned, the only one bidding is SaggyDimes.

Should I be wary of him?

(I may be developing a new fetish: domainagoraphilia! ... I'm sure I shouldn't be finding this so exciting!)
:)

PS: full list of bidders is:

thetrojan
contact
saggydimes
elenitsa
vaxis
bml_racing

and myself

...Any dark horses there?

Good luck on your auction, I've heard Saggydimes etc are hard to beat.

PS - would you guys say that you get bargains when you use snapnames? I mean for example 3 characters...do you get the names for good prices? Or are they overinflated because of all the people bidding?

in my experience the bargains on snap went away in spring 05 -- it has been few are far between, since then.

Can someone tell me if the names for sale on Snapnames are from droplists only or can they be from sellers like you and me because when I went to their site, I did not see anywhere where you can register and "sell your domains" the way you can on say Sedo or Urban Data.

If we could sell our names there we would all be rich :hehe:

Snapnames is only for expiring domain names.

when theres a LLL.com dropping you will probably be in amongst another 50 or so people at the party !

I guess if you can afford mid x,xxx up - and you can sell them like BuyDomains for xxx,xxx then it would work out quite a bargain :hehe: (assuming they do infact sell them, there never seems to be many of their sales listed at dnjournal from what I can remember)

here's a few I have seen but I don't usually bother trying for them anymore.

coms

Rod โ€“ $ 30,250
Ovn - $6500
Cjd - $5,200
Sji - $4400
Yol - $5600
s-v - $525

Ft.net โ€“ 10,001
Og.org - $7600

The prices on CJD, SJI, YOL, or OVN aren't too bad IMO.

Yeah but just Tooooo much for me :'(

There are definetly some bargain names to be had - DubaiCruise.com went for about $160 as far as I remember to Name Admin - Now that is a bargain IMO - and there are quite often names dropping with a few thousand incoming links !!!

I'v had a couple of these for xx :xf.love:

I'm in one for CityCafe.com just now, 1996 PR4 260 links

I think it may go too high for me though !

I was outbid by thetrojan (or some name like that - I can't remember) in the end. Every time I placed a new higher bid, he outbid me literally one second later. Did he have some automated code doing for him? B***ard!

{sigh}
