Can someone explain WLS?
At first I was like "eeh.. who cares" but then all these lawsuits!
first verisign sues icann, then all these companies sue ican AND verisign.

just want to know what all the hype is about. Im guessin WLS will have some kind of an advantage over registering domain names?

Read this for the full text http://fightwls.com/pdf/nowls_article4.pdf
but this might be the critical paragraph for understanding WLS:
Today, dozens of companies compete in the expired domain name market on behalf of their customers. Competition is fierce and has led most companies to charge a fee only when they have successfully obtained an expired domain name for a customer. These "success-based" or contingency fees are ideal for many customers.

Under the WLS, existing competitors would be excluded from the
expired domain name market and customers would be left with a single, monopolistic provider. The new monopoly would be based on the original fixed price, high risk, business model that until 1999 operated to gouge consumers in the domain name registry market.

Consumers will not have the low cost "success-based" or contingency fee options that they have today; rather, they will be required to pay at least $24 per year per domain name (a "pay to play" fee), with absolutely no guarantee that the domain name will actually expire at some point in the future.

It's interesting how people can twist and turn words to further their self-gain. Classic baloney :bah:

Actully, they were both part of a prior suit filed last year by the Domain Justice Coalition.

There have been reports in the last few days that their suit has been settled, but the website doesn't reflect this yet, as reported here:
