This aspect needs further clarification. I found that afternic activates the domain for distribution (but without fast transfer enabled) in all cases, as soon as the domain in question is added to afternic account(s), legitimately or not. Is the above finding correct? If so, how afternic is going to change this behavior in light of tons of domains being added to wrong accounts by those who do not own the domains they add? It is irrelevant whether the legitimate owner received or rejected the fast transfer request - their domain would still be shown as being for sale on major worldwide registrars as the result of current config. This is the problem.

It is a problem but not as big a deal as a fast transfer of the domain name away from your account. If your name is listed as a slow transfer and sold you need to manually transfer the domain to the buyer, which will not happen if you sell great.com for $100. But as I said above this is a lot of Hypothesis of what might happen and what could happen.
Let's stick to what does happen and has been happening. We have about 12 million domains listed for sale and it is extremely rare for a name to get an offer/sale that was not listed by the real owner and as I have stated above I have not seen yet (knock on wood) a domain that sold and moved as fast transfer that wasn't opted in by the real owner, and I have not seen any domains sell via fast transfer once we started listing the price next to the name on the opt in that were legitimately being listed by the real owner. If there is someone trying to list names by accident or otherwise that you own you will see the price they are trying to list them at in your opt in email. This seems to stop any issues. People tend to notice if there is a name listed they don't want to sell or sell at that price and talk with us about it. Even that is pretty rare.
At the end of the day though managing your names for sale is your responsibility. If you only have a couple names for sale it is easy enough with the tools we have. If you have a lot and cannot stay on top of them easily we offer people that work at Afternic to help you manage your account and make sure your domains are listed correctly all free of charge. We will be updating the interface later next year to make it easier to manage in bulk but for now we do offer help for bulk customers via account representatives on our side.

So, somebody who is not a domainer and not afternic customer, who registered their business domain with non-fasttransfer registrar, may see their domain as being listed for sale with all major worldwide registrars, and they will never receive a single email about this from any party involved. This will happen as soon as any afternic customer added the domain with these characteristics to their afternic account. Any afternic customer can add any domain with these characteristics to their afternic account, lets assume mistakenly. Correct?
(yes, the domain will never be transferred in the above scenario)

Yes, that was what Afternic support told us. But suggested in your message that we wouldn't get these emails for 59 days in a row. "You won't get emails to opt in for fast transfer unless your domains have a buy now price and are eligible for transfer."

The 60day lock status is visible, it is part of EPP spec by ICANN, is there a reason Afternic is not utilising?

If you are getting emails each day for 59 days you should contact service@afternic.com about it that is not normal.

Yesterday another Afternic member listed one of my domains at 5.000 USD.
I have received a Fast Transfer request from Dynadot, where I have registered that name.

I have this domain at BrandBucket with 2.000 USD price tag. You know that BB requires exclusivity, hence I didn't use any other marketplace for it.

What would happen if I mistakenly accepted FT request from Dynadot and that domain eventually get sold?

You'd be screwed both ways. BB would penalize your account and you'd not get any money for the domain sale

But you didn't and this is why we send the emails and include the price. There is a lot of what ifs on this page and not a lot of what did or what does happen. We designed the system to have multiple points of contact to prevent bad listings this is one of them and it appears it worked like it should. You should contact service@afternic.com to let them know which name it is so they can make sure the party attempting to list the name does not do so again.

Contact service@afternic.com and they should be able to get this rectified.

I sold a domain for $2500, the buyer requested the domain to be pushed, and an afternic agent subsequently requested me to push the domain to buyer directly. I complied with the request and pushed the domain to buyer on Nov 9. They usually take the domain into a holding account, although I have done direct to buyer transfers with Afternic on a few occasions in the past too. I personally dislike doing this, as it's not "real" escrow.

I took screenshots of all ownership transfer confirmation messages provided by the registrar and also of WHOIS once it reflected buyer's WHOIS. The WHOIS and transfer confirmation messages reflected the info of the same entity the TA agent said I should carry out the push with.

I sent all this transfer proof to the TA agent, but by that time the TA agent went to check WHOIS the buyer had applied privacy, and the TA agent is not able to get in touch with buyer anymore. The TA agent now refuses to mark the domain as transferred because the ownership transfer cannot be confirmed (all the screenshots I sent apparently mean nothing) even though it was the TA agent that allowed this to happen in the first place. I hope they will be able to eventually get in touch with buyer as that seems to be the only way they will "believe" that the transfer has completed. Thankfully I anticipated that this would happen and collected ample evidence of ownership transfer. Imagine if I had not done this, then I would have been in a far more difficult situation now, as the buyer would be in possession of the domain under WHOIS privacy, and I would have no recourse to prove it to them...

This was my own fault as well, as I should not have accepted the TA agent's suggestion that I push the domain to buyer directly. Afternic takes 20% of the sale in commission and for that they should provide a complete escrow service, and going forwards I will, without exception, request them to take the domain into a holding account first. This is more secure for sellers because if they take control of the domain first there will never be any doubt about whether or not you have transferred the domain. I recommend other sellers to do the same to avoid this kind of scenario.

This is all very odd. We do not ask sellers to transfer directly to the buyer for exactly this reason. I am not saying it did not happen but that is should not have happened. Can you please send me all the information so I can look into this directly?

The “Earnings on Domains Sold” and “Domains Sold Gross (Before Afternic Commission)” stats in the account summary on the dashboard stopped working 8 months ago.
    aaaa.png
It's only the financial stats that stopped updating, the system has continued to accurately count number of domains sold, so I assume it would be easy to fix.

@Joe Styler - Would it be possible to get this fixed before year end?

The support team is aware of this and is working with the developers. I am not sure how long it will take to fix.

@Joe Styler : would it be possible to fix the following -

    1) If I have a GoDaddy-registered domain listed at Afternic, and it becomes "Pending Sale", the system also locks this domain (makes it invisible and not manageable) in my GoDaddy account. Not a problem, but, if the sale expires (not sold at all) - the domain still remains invisible and not manageable @ GoDaddy (even though Afternic promptly returns the domain into distribution channel).
I had a couple such cases already (resolved with the help of my GD account manager).

    2) If I have a domain listed at Afternic and somebody contacts me directly using whois email, I always need to login to afternic and check the domain status, whether it is "pending sale" or not, before composing a reply to a potential buyer. It is inconvinent. Would it be possible to send email notifications "domain status changed at afternic" to reflect PendingSale status change, as soon as the listed domain becomes "pending sale"?

I sent multiple emails to the TA agent over the past few days, providing evidence that the transfer had completed and asking why the domain was not being marked as transferred to buyer. I only got one delayed response to one of those emails, saying that the domain could not be marked as transferred until buyer confirms it. Then after making the post above, the TA agent was suddenly willing to mark the domain as transfer complete almost instantly... This may have been a coincidence, but either way I'm glad the issue has been resolved, and I will not agree to do a direct transfer again.

#2 is a great suggestion. I would also like to see this email notification service. Once a domain is "pending sale" I would like to pull it from all other sales channels until it sells or goes back to regular listing status.

#1 you should email auctions@godaddy.com with the details so they can look into it.
#2 No we won't send any emails. Just because a name is in a pending sale status, it doesn't mean it sold. It means it might sell. For instance a customer at another registrar may put the domain into the cart but never do anything else with it. It might be a suspicious sale that is not going to pass fraud checks etc. It isnt certain enough that we feel comfortable sending an email saying it might sell. It is getting a hold put on the name in our system for some reason.

Almost finished editing/downloading my portfolio at Afternic. Can't stress enough how painful it was. Joe, I hope Afternic team will fix it quite soon, current platform is just nightmare for a seller.

I haven't used excel for some reason, just tried to do few things "manually". I guess there is no need to get into details, I think everything was already mentioned in this thread. GoDaddy did great move having purchased Afternic, but changes to the "control panel" are being delayed for way too long time imho.

We are making some changes but not until next year. Hang in there and in the meantime excel works good and you can contact me if you have a large number of updates and I can put you in touch with someone on our side to help with them.
