.mobi Mobi speculators are making me ill.

I have never seen such a group of greedy self-service posts in all my days. The hype of .mobi is turning into a frenzy of speculation on names that are worthless. Mobi is being fed only by domainers wishing to make money. Domainer A is selling to Domainer B..the #1 mobi domain sale is even a domainer (flowers.mobi). If you talk to the average internet user...they either don't know about .mobi or simply think it's stupid. I have 3 mobi names...so sure...I would like to see them rise in value. However there are those posting on this site that are still buying mobi names. If they aren't regged by now..they are WORTHLESS. Get this into your skulls. My advice...attempt to develop one of your mobi's. If you can find a way to make money with a mobi domain you will have a lot more money than most mobi speculators.

My prediction...in 2 years an incredible amount of rock-bottom mobi's and drops.

Nuff said.

There will always be mobi's sold whilst the chum is still floating in the water.

You are correct in saying the domains need developing, and it doesn't take long to do, even adverts on a page helps bring in the cash.

I'm not getting ill over it but I'm definitely getting a good laugh over some of the regs and the prices people are asking for them. The typo and hyphen regs, blow my mind.

I don't have a great .mobi portfolio, I am just lucky enough to know it is time to stop registering names. The gems are too few and quality to low for speculation. IMHO. I think it is risk vs reward. Taking a 30$ risk to reg a keyword domain vs the reward is much diferent then registering a typo, hyphen, "brandable", or otherwise not so valuable domain vs. the potential payoff.

I do believe .mobi will take off though, but I'm hoping foward to a lull in the "hype" about six months from now when I can pick up a few names at bargain prices.

You know what makes me ill?

Under-cooked chicken.

Seriously, I had some a few months ago... it was just barely, slightly pink in the middle, so I thought it was ok.... omg, I was so sick from eating that. Make sure your chicken is cooked thoroughly. It can mess you up.

I totally agree with you labrocca, the hype is driving the reseller value.
I was amazed to see what the LLL's and NNN's were valued at on 3character.com.

But... on the other side of the coin, from a resellers point of view, if these name have market value and are in demand, you can pull a profit from trading in them, and probably by doing so fuelling the speculation :)

LOL, funny you should say that. Happened to me too recently!!! :(

Yeah. All the greedy self-service people registered all the good .mobi with their corporate bank accounts :p I loathe it when people register domains they have no intentions to develop, or develop .mobi domains as they would a .com, there's a reason why it's a .mobi.

The hype doesn't make me feel ill, it makes me laugh.
I wondered what the heck was going on for a while, then i remembered this is a domian name forum, ya gonna get people talking outa their pockets..

Keep your .mobi's in your oven a little while longer, and make sure they're thoroughly cooked through, before basting them in adsense.

GD.

"hype" is what the whole domain business runs on. I bet most domainers here could make more per hour at KFC with all the time they put into it (to stay with the chicken theme).

Why do you think amazon.com is worth more than shop.com or google.com more than search.com? It's all about marketing. And if .mobi is marketed right then I'm sure some sap will want to buy my .mobi's for more than they're worth.

Domain trading is all about the money like any other trade so let's stop pretending we're here for the good of mankind.

What's also sickening is the amount of time that the .mobi haters put in to trolling these threads. We all know that you hate the name, so why put forth the effort of telling us at every opportunity that you get?

My favorite argument is the "NO ONE has even heard of .mobi LOL!!!!!!111111" or the "I hate mobi so I appraise your name at less than reg fee, har har har!!!"

Newsflash, genius, it's been 2 months. I'm sure most people haven't heard of a new TLD 2 months after it was launched, .com included. If you want to continue to waste your time whining like little babies, go right ahead. I'm done listening to the haters. Arguing with you people is pointless. Its like trying to teach a squirrel to breakdance. There is a group of us who aren't just buying up every name there is and who are committed to developing sites and trying to make this thing work.

And.... up goes the heated topic message. :)

It was only a matter of time, and you can't blame a .mobi fan for wanting to reply in that fashion. After all, labrocca came into .mobi territory with a pretty strong thread title and statement. My flashback to a bad chicken experience was not enough to keep things side-tracked forever.

Everyone is free to express themselves. We are not here to ruin the fun. Just keep the arguing and noise to a low roar so the neighbors don't call the cops on us. Thank you kindly. :)

As I have said in a previous post, I dont see where .MOBI is going because there is no guarantee that people who run .COM websites own the .MOBI version of their domains, rendering the .MOBI extension unpredictable.

I have a strong belief that people want wireless Internet, so there is certainly a big market.

I only have one question

Why do you care if we reg .mobi or not? How does it affect you?
If you dont want to read about it, then stay away from the .mobi 'specific' part of the forum.

I honestly do not understand why any of you care at all what we do with our money and time. I don't remember this happening with any other extension. Makes no sense to me at all.

As someone who has invested a large $$$ in mobi domain names, I do agree with labrocca on certain points. Some of the mobi names that are being registered would be a stretch even for the dotCom TLD.

Of course, everyone is entitled to spend their money as they wish; but labrocca is certainly entitled to express his opinions as well.

Cheers and Best of Luck to all domain investors!

Labrocca, if you are "ill" after only 2 months of .mobi speculation, you will be SEVERLY ill and hospitalized after 1 year. The doctors will diagnose you with MobiEnvy. MobiEnvy (i.e. The โ€œCouldโ€™a, Shouldโ€™a, Wouldโ€™aโ€ Syndrome). This syndrome is common in many domainers who beat themselves up over a missed opportunity to register .mobi domains during the pre-Landrush. Those inflicted with MobiEnvy will look back and say, โ€œIf only this,โ€ or โ€œIf only that.โ€

MobiEnvy. When we envy someone for what they have, we are subtly telling ourselves that not only donโ€™t we have good .mobi domains, but even more importantly, we beat up ourself thru intense jealousy. This intense jealousy is expressed in classic negative terms like Labrocca has demonstrated:

Labrocca, we canโ€™t redo the pastโ€”but we can change the way we look at it, and we can learn from it, so that we no longer use it as an excuse to lash out at those visionaries who had the foresight to register a healthy .mobi portfolio.

I am sure you have seen some of the rediculous .com names registered, have you not? As a matter of fact, there are terrible names in all extentions. Some times I wonder if the buyers were drunk when they registered them. I even have a few I won't show anyone. But.. why would I get on a soap box and bash those people for registering names I have no desire for and would never register myself?

This is what Labrocca stated:

"I have never seen such a group of greedy self-service posts in all my days. The hype of .mobi is turning into a frenzy of speculation on names that are worthless. Opnions are fine, but I think this went a little past opinion. It was more like an insult, and one none of us asked for or deserved.

One particular statement really shocks me.. "However there are those posting on this site that are still buying mobi names. If they aren't regged by now..they are WORTHLESS. Get this into your skulls. "

I might be wrong, but I know I am not, there are still people buying .com and they have been out there for what.. 10 years now? They still buy .net, .org., .info., .us.. I think you get my point.

That is MY opinioin.

Opinion = a personal belief of judgement that is not founded on proof or certainty

I think everyone can agree that people are free to post their opinions without asking for a permission, no? Of course, that does not mean that we have to like it.

All I am saying is that since no one can predict the future, we should try to make sound business investment decisions (imho).

it's a good thing -db- placed that heat-o-meter in this thread!

gobble gobble!
