.mobi LISTEN .mobi Speculators: Companies DON'T need your names

What drives me crazy here is how everyone is proclaiming how .mobi is the only extention suitable for phone surfing. Let me tell you something. YES, companies are going to make mobile websites. NO, they are NOT going to use .mobi. STOP wasting your money! Why pay people thousands of dollars, when a simple SCRIPT can redirect the phone automatically??!

Yes, a script. A script that lets the server know what type of device is accesing the site. A script that AUTOMATICALLY redirects cellphone users to the mobile part of the site.

Try typing in: http://m.yahoo.com in your phone. Soon, most companies will do the exact same thing.

Whats the point of .mobi?! NONE. Companies can use a script and at the same time save TONS of advertising costs.

There really is NO point for a .mobi name!

Amen, Dammit ... I, too, have now seen the light (as posted earlier in another "iPhone / .MOBI" thread): :lightbulb: :yell:

Good point ... not that I've ever been a "bull", by any stretch, of the .MOBI, but this is about the most bearish I've felt since the extension's introduction, IMHO. I am increasingly as unsure that the consortium and so-called "backers" of the .MOBI can get ahead (heck, even out of the gate!) in this race, as I am sure that the BiG :$: .COM sites won't just sit still and permit .MOBI to capture the eyeballs of the mobile web ... the math just does NOT add up, in my view. :|

As in the Signature below, I've scrapped my development plans for my one .MOBI ... perhaps the iPhone broke my camel's back? :red:

Time will tell, of course ... and just my two sense.

Thanks for the post, of course differing opinions welcome! :talk:

thanks for info and please stay on top of this and let us know when the majority of the tens of millions of sites out there have implemented these simple scripts.

You are just as much as a speculator as we are, so whats your point? Really?

You speculate it won't succeed and we speculate it will.

Can you not take criticism? I am trying to save you money, but obviously you can't even comprehend common sense. I gues thats why i put up my avatar.

None, because i don't develop. Please let us know when tens of millions of sites will even HAVE mobile friendly sites. Development COSTS money. Profits MUST exceed costs (duh). MOST won't aka even if .mobi was to flourish, not many sites would use it (IMO less then 100,000). Of course, a script would be the perfect solution, I haven't seen a reasonable counter from someone.

Try typing in yahoo.mobi from your phone.

Why would they bother puting a site up on yahoo.mobi if they think .mobi is useless??

C'mon fella's ... it's still OK to have differing opinions (and Newbies, and their opinions, should receive equal weighting, as well IMHO). :music:
Thanks kindly.

You don't know how hard it is to refrain from responding to morons like you...and yes, I'm failing tonight's test.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again - if you don't like .mobi, go invest elsewhere! Stop invading the damn .mobi section with your attempts at picking fights! The fact is that you do not know what the future holds, and neither does anyone else, so stop being a complete idiot and pretending like you do. It's not your damn money, so quit bitching to us about how we're investing our money!

No one minds if you have your own opinion on the subject...but please allow others to have their own opinions as well.

Thank you kindly.

Damitssam you mention http://yahoo.mobi - try searching for mobile website results, e.g. type: โ€˜businessweekโ€™, โ€˜dirโ€™, โ€˜cabbiesโ€™, โ€˜boingโ€™, โ€˜devโ€™, โ€˜bankingโ€™ etc, and you will find those developed .mobi sites at the top of the search results. Not bad if an end user is looking for a mobile website!

so are you saying there is also no point in a .net name or .org name or any other extension since they can also do what a .com does? Is everything going to be worth regfee that isnt .com?

Theoretically yes, unfortunately the general public thinks .org = for organizations, so most organizations register the .org name. For .nets, they usually register .nets since .com is taken. The only reason other extentions exist, is because .com is taken. (aka .com has been exhausted almost all the way and companies need more names "available")

Heres a few more to try: Manhattan, Tampa, Hungry, developing.........

Seems its pretty easy for mobi sites to hit the top spots!

so does my dotcoms.mobi, so what, when dell tells you to to go to dell.com/tv that redirects too, its about a user freindly type in which is easy to read by the consumer. I don't understand how you people really don't get it. Im sick of arguing about this.

Why does samsung register all these .mobis

Why did flowers.com bid so much for flowers.mobi

why did cingular try to trade mark music video ect.. .mobi

to protect their brand??

Why would they care to protect their brand if they didn't believe .mobi could become a success??

Im tired, you don't get it, so why do you bother posting in a .mobi?

I don't like .us or .tv, you don't see me bashing those threads.

I think these bashers are the jealous one who didn' get in before the traffic auction and are now mad
:'(
