As some of you might have noticed MapleDots is in an acquisition phase and we have significant funding set aside for new domain acquisitions.

Before we started the process we decided to try to acquire a top brandable .com.

www.Maple.com was purchased by a company from New York that delivered restaurant style meals.

At the time I predicted the company would have some challenges
    https://www.namepros.com/threads/maple-app-upgrades-to-maple-com.857730/#post-6049500

Before we started our recent acquisitions we attempted to acquire Maple.com for 100k USD and we contacted every email address in the WHOIS listing.

We did not get a response and therefore decided to drop the attempt to acquire this domain and pursued our current strategy instead. MapleDots is highly focused on Canadian Domain Properties but will entertain the purchase of .com properties if they can be re-branded with a Canadian presence.

PLEASE KEEP THIS TOPIC PROFESSIONAL, COURTEOUS AND ON TOPIC.
We will be asking the moderators to strictly enforce namePros rules/standards on this topic.

You need to contact the higher-ups at Deliveroo (dot com); they bought Maple. If this domain is now simply an 'unusable asset' to them and they have no plans to create any project with it, they might go for a sale:

Find a phone number for Deliveroo or any of their corporate team. Maple.com may not be out of reach yet! Good luck :)

Thank you for the advice but the decision to drop the acquisition has already been made, hence this topic. It would have been really silly to post this and still be pursuing the domain :xf.laugh:

That said..... one can never say never, maybe a little publicity will motivate them. :xf.wink:

Where are you getting your capital from? Do you have investors?

.ca has always been a slow market for me. Names that would get you backslaps in .com are lucky to even receive a VISITOR in .ca. I hope you know what you're doing with these high-cost acquisitions.

Maple was never sold to deliveroo, some of their employees joined that company when they shut down.

These guys raised a lot of money, and lost a lot of money, $100K will not get their attention.

I totally agree, when you can hand register lll.ca for reg fee, it is really a luck market.

Adam Dicker kept prices very high in the aftermarkets for many years, when that money stopped flowing things got much cheaper, I heard he had amassed a 30,000 strong .ca portfolio, if not larger.

Many CDN companies do business in the US, so having a multinational extension is much better for them, some companies simply do not have the budget for the big names, so they have many options in the marketplace. The GTLD launch further hurt .ca.

Keep an eye on the resale market moving forward, you might be in for a few surprises.
I know a whole group of investors silently buying up premium .ca's.... that market is about to change big time.

It doesn't matter who the holders are, if the end users are not knocking it won't matter.

The two names you purchased red.ca, and dn.ca were on sale many years here, and before that.

It took one person, yourself, stepping up to fill that void, otherwise 30 million other people were not interested in stepping up.

Actually I stepped up on a lot of .ca's and the smart investors turned me down, just happens I know a few of them. :xf.wink:

Limited supply will win out in the end, .ca has the highest trust factor in Canada and the values will climb. We can differ in our opinions on that one but I appreciate the feedback.

To be honest I have no idea why Red.ca was still on the market, I am surprised someone like RedTag.com did not snatch that up, RedFlag Forums, coin purse money for them for what Warren was asking for it. I am sure he would have reached out as he has been trying to sell it for years.

.org has trust factor also, but Canadians do not spend like Americans when it comes to stepping up for domains, and when it comes to geo targeted domains with residency restrictions it makes it a bit harder.

Other holders can weigh in, but to be honest I think this is what led to the downfall of A D, he just spent way to much money on .ca, and the sales never showed up.

I am not sure what you mean about limited supply, when you can hand register LLL.ca's for reg fee, and buy decent ones that sell for $50-$100K in .com for $60-$100 in drops?

There are a few big holders of .ca domains that had some good sales in the past, they would be lying to you if they tell you inquiries are up from recent years, they are not.

I don't see the filling of the void, if the gtld's had not been released, I would say you have something, but there is .com, then there is everything else, with over 1000 GTLD's in that mix, they are competing with .ca dollars for that same marketplace.

.ca is alot like .us both of which should be doing better than they are, but the end users never supported them. .ca probably has stronger support than .us given a 1 to 10 population ratio, but the supporting end user sales just do not line up.

Not too long ago, electrify.ca was available for handreg (over a significant time period might I add) and I didn't even bother. I kind of regret that now, but it just goes to show how slow the market was, and still is.

Actually you'll have to say never, ha ha; just spoke to Caleb Merkl (founder of Maple.com), he did indeed sell the domain to Deliveroo along with the company (even though the domain is still pointing to his and Akshay's 'goodbye message'), he said that 100k would definitely have been too low, and that the current owners have no interest in selling the domain (but wouldn't comment on whether they had plans to use it for any future project).

So, good that you have moved on. Best of luck :)

It would be a nice domain for canadians to own (emotionally) but I think the MAPLE SYRUP manufacturers can put it to a better commercial use.

That's the thing about the domain industry, never set your heart on something you cannot have.
You can bid and the owner can accept or decline, after that one needs to move on to the next project.

MapleSyrup.ca is premium and will fetch a nice price at DomainBrothers

The MapleSyrup market is huge in Ontario and Quebec

PS @GoWebnames.com could I ask kindly you to reduce that picture to a thumbnail please, it is kind of overpowering the topic.
