How about closing's, because more so that is what counts, many .ca's get a lot of misdirected inquiries, probably because the people who should own them, are not stepping up to secure them.

Curious as to why the need for Maple.com when the brand is MapleDots?

Respectfully asking because the business is in startup, correct?

Edit: Nevermind. I misunderstood. Answer right here:

As some of you might have noticed MapleDots is in an acquisition phase and we have significant funding set aside for new domain acquisitions.

6 in the last 4 weeks and no real explanation for it. I don’t ever email potential buyers.

I personally don't consider $50, $100 domain sales as sale.

what do you consider it as?

I heard of a guy who was regging domains and selling them around $100 each.
it took him a while but he eventually became millionaire.

That's great! But $50 sales, you literally need to sell names to all businesses in town to make a million

This technique pretty much can't be followed anymore though.

I have identified a domain with Maple keyword where the .ca is registered but the .com is not. Would you register that? It's a decent name.

    Just for info

If Maple.ca was not in use I would have made the same offer, it is the second best word to Canada.ca which is used by the government of Canada. The Maple Leaf is our national symbol and used by almost all businesses to show a Canadian presence.

Everyone else may want to be careful because Maple is big in Canada but unless you have a direct name hit or something the word is not necessarily as potent in other areas of the world.

I do have a couple of leafs.... Leafit.ca & Leafit.com but the impact is not the same as the Maple.

Nice thread, from my view the .ca market has been steady or slightly rising forever. It has never really taken off. The .ca is a highly used and visible extension in Canada. As for new gtlds, they have hurt .ca as much as they’ve hurt .com here, so not much. My sales come from inquiries, not outbound marketing.

I think 2018 is trending upward for .CA

Although I frequently see an upswing this time of year as I think companies decide to purchase to get the write off. Just a theory.... nothing to back it up.

It is hard and expensive to get a good .com these days, so .ca will always remain a top 1 or 2 choice in Canada. As .com's get taken out it just helps .ca. Large companies have to market in Canada, even if they aren't based here, and many like to use the .ca version of their name or product - if they are selling or operating in Canada it is easy for them to qualify to own .ca's. New g's just aren't gaining traction quickly so they aren't even part of the discussion really. I hand regged a couple .ca's last year that were coin and cannabis related that got $1,000 offers shortly after, but didn't sell. I've been in .ca for almost 18 years now and still hand reg and pick up names in the drops. It hasn't made me a millionaire, but it is profitable and I guess worth doing to me since I'm still doing it. Most of my domains are .ca and .com, with a low percentage of other extensions. We have had these discussions on the .ca market for years, as I said the market has never really taken off, but it's been steady or slightly rising and from this point it will probably continue that slow upward trend. You can go a while without inquiries then get a flurry over a month and make some sales. That just seems to be how it is for .ca

I agree that the market has been and continues to be steady with growth. I like .ca and will continue to believe in it as I believe it is one of the most popular cctld’s

CIRA also does a decent job of promoting .ca
