discuss Listing on marketplaces: BIN or Make offer?

When you list your names on marketplaces such as Afternic or Sedo, do you add a BIN or do you prefer to list them without price and Make offer?

I'm reviewing my strategy and would like to know what works best for others and why?

What are the pros and cons of adding a BIN or listing names as Make offer in your opinion?

Combo...

Low end names ya wanna move buy it now

High end names that have no shortage of offers make offer

Pros of buy it now quicker instant sale

Cons of buy it now you may leave money on the table as rare but possible someones initial offer might have been higher than your buy it now pricing

I think every single sales platform, at least GoDaddy, Sedo, and Afternic, of which I am familiar, unequivocably say we should all be using Buy Now pricing, if we want to make sales. None of them recommend Make Offer pricing. I use Make Offer pricing everywhere I participate, with a minimum of $999 :) Of course not all my domains may be worth $999. But it deters a whole lot of tire kickers which, to be honest, I don't have time to respond to. So I may be missing out on a few low-end sales :(

It seems listing at make an offer seems to be preferred by most of you. I remember the sales commission is lower when a BIN is added (at least on Sedo) which makes it a bit more attractive. Anyone that prefers BIN listing over Make an offer and if so, why?

BIn is quite binding, you can't have BIN prices at multiple marketplaces for the same domain.

I do a mix of some names I have a BIN and some are Make offer. The make offer ones of course take longer to come to a deal OR they just stop. All of my afternic sales though have been through a BIN

I would prefer make an offer because if a domain expires or you forget to remove it from a marketplace after selling it, you'll get in trouble if it's purchased at BIN elsewhere. I typically only use BIN at my own website.

@Nattydomain - Your statement about Afternic, wrings true. I had an email from them recently, from somebody high up, stating, "were have never been a Make Offer marketplace", or words to that effect.

I feel they dont have time to negotiate and just want to be a place to get in and out with your domain of choice.

It seems one of the benefits of setting a fixed price on Afternic is that these domains will show up in GoDaddyโ€™s registration path when someone searches for the domain. I haven't looked into this personally yet, anyone has experience with this?

My experience both as a buyer and as a seller is that a " make offer " listing can have its downsides.
As a seller you risk having plenty of low ball offers from nice " colleagues ".
Also, if I think of myself as a buyer, I tend not to make offer maybe because I always think that the price has in mind will be totally out of this planet. So, for example, if I am browsing GD aftermarket I make sure I untick " make offer " domains.

I've done it and it works, but only for Afternic premium listings.

Thanks everyone for chipping in with experiences and tips. I'll spend some time this holiday updating my marketplace listings and will follow @stub 's advice by listing the higher value names as Make offer with a minimum offer to avoid low ball offers. The remainder I will list as BIN at Afternic premium so that they will show up in Godaddy search too.
