We all have our domains listed at several marketplaces.

However it is only smart to list a name with a BIN at one marketplace at a time so as not to get stuck in a situation where a domain is purchased at two markets simultaneously.

Yes, I know the chance of this happening is rare.

Now for the question and the Poll.....

When listing your domains for sale at markets with a BIN, which market, in your opinion, gives the best results.

In other words, in your experience, what market has resulted in the most sales from listing names with a BIN only?

I am leaving out the brandable marketplaces because they are specialists.

We are talking about the major, general markets only.

Only one answer is allowed, so pick the one you think is best even if two are very close.

@stub did you calculate your selling ratio for variations of minimum offer rate such as 1000, 2500, or others? Last year I cut the minimum prices to half and I get two times more sales but also a median price half of the previous year so nothing in the end. Since, I don't have more data and can't add other factors such as gtld introduction, global economy etc. I can't make a healthy decision about pricing. Can you share your observations, selling ratio, medians if you play with minimum pricing for a while?

End users are becoming wise about purchasing domains and we're seeing more of them come to NamePros to get good deals on Domains.

Added to your poll since voters want to choose the option. ;)

Eric - what would you say the percentage of "end users" versus us domain investors are buying domains at NamePros?

I would say GD and NP.. There isnt a faster sales platform than NP. GD and Afternic move names too. Sedo not as fast. I am really liking Namesilo. I just sold a name there.

I'm not trying to be rude. But, that's all too high-brow for my way of thinking. I will say, the higher the minimum, the better the quality of low-ball offers you receive. I'm putting up my minimum offer to $2500, because that is the sweet spot for Huge Domains sales. And their prices are rarely under $2k and go much, much higher. Retail Domain Sellers are going to have to put their prices way, way up, if they want to maintain their margins into the future. Based upon the prices they are bidding at places like GoDaddy Auctions. Which will make my $2500 look cheap :) It also sets a higher bar, closer to where I expect to sell my domains.

Having low minimum prices, sets the expectations for potential buyers too low. They get sticker shock, when you came back with 5 figure asking prices. I will lose some sales for sure in the cheaper price ranges. But I think it's going to be a good move. Overall.

If you want to share your BIN-listing among major registrars incl. GoDaddy - then Afternic DLS (20%).

p.s. Most endusers are visiting necessary domain directly, so marketplace is not needed at all.
You can sell even via your own template.

Do you know if they require photo ID/personal documentation for their service like escrow.com has begun to do?

Not currently, as they are not working as an escrow system, but a payment + transfer manager.

You can sell even via your own template.

I partially agree: a lot of buyers visit the domain, but it's always good to have as much exposure as possible and Afternic DLS + SEDO MLS would work fine, even rising the prices just there.

Own template is also nice, although this way you must add an option for completing the transaction and I believe this thread runs about that ... :xf.smile:

GD...most of my domains are there plus end users know them. Their premium listing is cool since end users use them to search..

I have had most success at Sedo and prefer it for several reasons.
  • The BIN if parked at Sedo is Only 10%, Not 20%
  • Most of my sales are completed including receiving payment within 1-2 business days, Not 2 weeks.
  • Sedo takes possession of the domain and disburses payment before giving the domain to buyer.

Is this always the case? Or is/are there conditions to be met to get that service? I ask because in the 10 years I have sold at Sedo not all of my sales have gone that way. Sometimes I receive instruction to push the domain to the buyer's account, sometimes to push it to Sedo's account. I could never figure out why but also never asked.

Not sure, for me in the past couple of years Sedo has been very good at having me push my domain to them immediately after they confirm buyers payment.

Sometimes they need buyer to send more info to verify payment and that can take however long the buyer takes to supply verification.

I haven't had to push the domain to a buyer in a few of years so I assumed that is just the case for everyone now. That is why I choose Sedo for the most part is to have them take possession of the domain.
That and they send payment so fast.

Nobody has mentioned domain agents. I'm thinking of trying them because of their links to whois services, and their proactive approach to selling names.

I have sold domains through Domain Agents, even before they had their marketplace.
No complaints!

I sold a name through them following an inbound enquiry. I'm thinking of trying their market place as part of my review of BIN sales sites, and I wondered if people had had much success with them. I like their negotiating system, so it seemed a useful site to list names.
