.mobi Just a few words on TRAFFIC and .MOBI

The performance of MOBI at TRAFFIC was great to outstanding.

- This is a brand new extension.
- It proved to be neck and neck with .NET/.ORG after 5 months.
- Few end-users at the auction.
- Casual speculators who might have bid were not willing to pay the proxy fee.

I'd give MOBI's performance a B+/A- yesterday.

If you had asked me to grade this on 9/26/06, I would have said A+.

It's as good as I would have ever hoped at this point.

The real judge and jury is 3-5 years away.

I do not share your enthousiasm for the pizza.mobi for the french market.

First:
You know as me that "les services à la personne" are not very developped in France at the difference of other countries.
The main reasons are the high taxes companies have on workers and the rigid code of labor.
This involves Pizza delivery is rare in France except the few largest cities and only downtown.

Are you agree?

Second:
That you use a fixed phone or a cellphone it's allways a phone call.
Not a web site visit.

Third:
Do you know a Pizza restaurant having a web site in which you can order pizzas?
Because I do not know one and if you find it it should be the exception.
If you want a pizza you need to call and for sure after go and get your pizza which by the way limit the interest of call them before.

It's again one of these names that may look likes a terrific idea but after better thoughts is not the way how things are working today.


So at least for the France market you do not convince me today about the great value of pizza.mobi.

In the USA, pizza delivery is almost as common as turning on the TV. I can not count the number of times I have ordered pizza from my mobile on the way home from somewhere. We had pizza 2 times a week when we lived in Virginia.

I also remember having to ask them what the current specials were, if they had other toppings, desserts, etc. With a mobile site, we could be instantly recognized by the system when we go there via our favs hotkey, have the option to look at the menu, search special offers or just order the same thing we did last time. We could skip the voice call completely.

Maybe not good for France, but most definately good in the states.

that's for sure, i bought 2 local pizzas like seattlepizza.mobi etc

i think that implementing pizza.mobi for say, the whole united states will involve a lot of coding to deal with all of the pizza places

if they can implement gps auto detection and you would be looking automatically at all the pizza places near you when you hit their site it would be pretty dynamic stuff but i still think local pizza mobi's can do well also
