Is anyone still investing in .US domains?

Has anyone sold any .US domains lately?

Where would you sell them?

Obviously in the .US .com is king too, but I have seen at times .us being used by different companies.

I barely see .us used in the US...I dont think it will change that much. I cant seem to sell on flippa rummy.us for more than $10 (!) That should already tell you how bad the .us market is...

I might as well just buy .casino.. better chance there..
I had to Google rummy to find out what it meant. Afterwards I was like "Oh Gin Rummy".. smh at myself. Anyways I don't think a Casino website owner would want his information public, can you imagine the losers at his house!

Now that I know what it means it's a nice name.

For investment I'd say: Yes - dead.

For development I'd say: No - it's still pretty cool for the U.S market sometimes and for domain hacks.

I would buy .us
But I do not meet the requirements. I buy .ca
I meet the requirements. I believe it will increase in value in time, as will .ca
10 years from now Americans will want .us because there will be 2,700 extensions and it shows credibilty.
American citizen.
New gtld's can be registered by anyone in the world, most anyways.
What are the chances of me getting busted owning 10.us
Is it enforced?

you meet the requirements if you have a US based server hosting the domain

My philosophy- .US is in a dormant stage now, but the ccTLD of one of the wealthiest and most powerful countries on earth will not be a bust. but yes, to those who want profit and want it yesterday, .US will surely be unattractive. i have some LLLs and thats mostly it, but i will hold for now. Things change.

I don't understand why ".US" can't take off !! in France people try the ".fr" before trying the ".com"
and too many companies have the ".fr" domains and are not interested in the ".com" I don't understand why this is not the case in the US !!
Good luck ".US" :)

Development will lead, sales will follow....developement was always the bane of great generic portfolio holders, till now. ..... .us for a small investment and time it is possible for you to acquire a one word generic in a cctld with strong protections and rights for it's registrants rather than in some made-up new gtld that would cost them much more for something comparable.

Because US treats .com as its cctld.

Compare:

Any other country - .gov.cctld, US - .gov

Many other countries - .com.cctld, US - .com

We've had good experiences with .us - they do well in search results when they've got relevant content (as is the case with .com of course) and I think the branding opportunity is far greater IMHO than say .biz

But the downside is that it really limits to the 'US' domestic market ... or someone looking to export product or service targeted to US residents or frequent travellers.

$0.02 (US hehe)

.us was not an option Till 2002, investors not businesses got a hold of the best names so the domains just sat around rather than used in marketing to the public. The aftermarket is open to manipulation, chips and new gtlds anyone? Some smart people say the dumbest thing when they say "the American people have not embraced it" where are the case studies? A/B testing? I will bet the American people many times will choose to visit website with .us over other extensions .com excluded. Look at domains in the eyes of an enduser to see value. Credibility, Roi (sem), Seo, etc.....not what you can flip it for.

How would you explain how a business can benefit from the domain names you mentioned ?

Easily....Americans could be the new Facebook but with spirit. Debut.us could have been a place to show musicians like a MySpace for new talent. Barney could have been anything...wait your asking what these could be??? Half of all domains are just terms correct? ? ? I think my domains make considerably more sense the the .US sales mentioned 6 posts above.

I think the most valuable names don't need explaining.

Yes and no.Just align it with what it would bring if it was .com. What would you say is a great .us?

I have very nice CCC.com domains that dont get tons of serious offers. Without knowing what efforts you are making to sell them, I cant say no calls is unusual.

I can tell you this though. You should have nice inquiry pages setup instead of the 10 windows that open up with spammy links when you visit Americans.com. Your phone might ring alot.

Hmm.. like i said..the market seems dead.

1. Cant get more than $10 for rummy.us on Flippa.. and that is a name that doesn't need explaining.

2. Cant even sell indexing.us for $140...

3. Some of the sales showed above for .US do seem odd.. but then so does .ws

4. The interesting thing here is that according to the pole there is a good percentage who doesn't think .us is dead...
But nonetheless, I dont see anyone buying or selling their .us domains to other domainers. It seems that most are just holding to their existing names?

5. I couldn't get a respected Domainer from the US who has a great blog to agree to post my .US domain for pay, on his list - as he thought .US is a waste of time.

I will approach him again and show him this thread.. Maybe he will now agree..but it would help if I got a few bids through his site from some of the .US supporters here. Otherwise we are just getting banned :(

I think you checked Americans.com by mistake. It has always had a landing page with option for offer. I like the name a lot and think the world of it but hey that's just me I believe! I think Debut.us is very strong as well

I hold my .us domains like I hold many domains.

Many investors held random 4L.com when many others didnt see value. Things can change overnight. Thats why investors have different types of domains.
Best to build a portfolio based on your own financial goals both long and short term. I am proud to have some good .us domains in my portfolio.
