Considering they have a population of over 1 billion, this is normal.

Now what does this say for the future value of .in?

Hopefully not the same fate as .us. .US will hopefully have it's time soon. :)

The authorities actually caught the guy that was the owner of the very large spam operation behind the IRS fraud.

    Thanks for sharing :)

I can only speculate but I guess that the total number of domains registered at .in will increase, as well number of domain sales.
Also, the value of premium .in domains will increase.
I don't own .in domains though.

India may have surpassed the US in the number of Internet users. But, and this is a big butt, The buying power and commercial value of the US users is beyond comparison. This is not to say that Indian users are to be discounted, but there will be a long way to go for a fair comparison based on numbers only. Hopefully, the Indian market/users will mature and grow in the same fashion as the Chinese market, but due to the cultural and economic difference it, it will take longer but it will eventually come sooner than later.

I wonder if .in will become what .cn is in China or if they prefer only .com names there.

Often I get inquiries on my names from India, the offers rarely go beyond $100-150 US.

    Thank you for sharing.

A lot of this, infact, has to do with how Internet usage has grown four folds over the years due to shift in how major venture capitalists saw potential in the Indian market which was further helped by the economic policies of the government of India by introducing Digital India initiative, Start up India, Make in India, etc.

Growth will continue to happen, and we also see uptick in efforts from National Internet Xchange of India (.in Registry) coming out to promote .in domain names by introducing Social Media and TV Advertising Campaigns after years of existence.

Future looks promising and our combined efforts of pushing Indian domain name industry forward have also started fructifying.

Very good question. I am heavily invested in .COM & .IN domain names, and this is how see Indian market as well.

Just like everyone out there, Indian endusers love .COM as their first choice for a brand name and if first choice is not available, they'd fall back on .in tld. Of course this also completely depends on whether their business caters to local or global market.

Everything has a market in India, and the reason I see Domain Name investors not from within the country are heavily invested in the cctld. These are some of the well known names in our industry like Nat Cohen from Telepathy Inc, Stephen Wilson from Keyword Acquisitions, Inc., Alex Kogan from Heaven Domains just to name a few who see potential in .IN domain names.

I post a regular series on my Facebook profile where I publish offers received on my domain names and you could follow that to know what sort of names are receiving interest from Indian endusers here: #PolitelyRejected

At the moment Indian end users for co.in/.in that are prepared to front up a good price for a good name are like the holy grail.

Resellers pump out the very low $xxx offers on good names in the hope of picking up a gem cheaply, often via Sedo in the hopes it may be pushed to auction and there are no other bidders.

FYI Over the years I have sold more than 1000 .co.in/.in names.

    Hi All,

I am from India. The problem with .IN domains are,

    > First there are almost 88 languages spoken through out the country. So most of local business choose their name in native language(Tamil,Hindi,Telugu,Malayalam..etc) which is obviously making domain brokering Hard. Only software and E-commerce firms going for English keyword domains.

Example in sites Tamil language: www.anbutamil.com, www.vinavu.com

    > There are many startups from 2012. But i don't see any company spend more money in Domain Names except few due to lowest value rupee of against dollar.
