In the French market, versions with and without hyphens had during many years a similar value. Some our biggest local websites were hyphenated, like vente-privee.com or voyages-sncf.com
In the last 10 years, hyphenated domains have started to be less popular. We can still sell from time to time the 2 versions at the same price, but the version without hyphen is always preferred.
Regarding .com vs. ccTLD, 10 years ago, the market for .FR was weak. The 1st choice was always COM, followed by NET. In 2020, FR is the 1st choice, ahead of COM. NET has almost no value and other gTLD don't sell at all.

According to Namebio, there are only 12 recorded sales of .solutions domains. None with a hyphen. Odds are not in your favor.

I've been fighting against the odds all my life so it really doesn't phase me. The bigger the challenge the harder I try.

If that's the case, there are brilliant hyphen domains available in .mobi. Ultra premium, tier one.

In response to poll, no I definitely will not and have not not gone out of my way to buy hyphenated domains. To the greater extent, a hyphen in a dn breaks up the visual appeal. It takes an exemplary name to be able to mitigate the damage a hyphen adds, imo, and at that it really should be a proper dictionary word.

In a new G', it will have to work that much harder. Long and arduous urls are just hard to look at and to type-in, and hyphens do not help in that regards. If looking to match a business/brand name to the url too.

Interesting to note, when it comes to dictionary terms, there are many hyphenated dn's from the 90's that were registered before their non-dashed twinsies. Maybe at the time, correctness was more a factor than visual, length or popularity appeal.

    I have,

    fore-edge /com
    e-folio /com

The best way to win long-term is to only bet when the odds are in your favor. As a former professional poker player for 8 years, I'm speaking from experience. But I hope you sell the domain for a handsome profit.

Going forward, I will spare you my feedback as it doesn't seem to be productive for neither you or me.

Lol, good for you ;) seriously though, I would forget about hyphenated domains beyond com/net/org.

OP started this thread with .com domains in mind and those are a hard sell most of the time, imagine ngtlds.

There's nothing wrong with doing your own thing, going against the majority but this thread is turning into a travesty, no offense.

    Good evening,

I can accept constructive criticism when it is well intentioned and has maybe statistical data to soften the blow a little. I appreciate the fact that you took the time to respond without the need to make me feel inadequate or stupid.

I know that I don't fit the accepted mould of a domainer but that is just my nature and I may be a little set in my ways to change now.

Please be assured that I do listen to good advice but I won't be pushed around and will bite back if I feel that I need to.

I look forward to your future words of wisdom if you're up for the challenge too. I hope so.

    Regards,

    Reddstagg

    That is a good one.
Were you able to sell it?

What is the traffic on that domain?

It gets some type in but the dash diminishes the value. Obviously with no sports going on, it probably won’t sell for a while. have noticed a lot of dashed names in Europe, particularly Germany.

A couple of years ago, I sold Smart-Energy.com for $6,400. I think it went well beyond its real market value but I needed the cash back then and I made a good profit. Ever since, I'm keeping a few hyphenated domains in my portfolio. Right now I have these five:
    • Lawn-Mowers.com
    • Pro-Medics.com
    • Domain-Lab.com & Domain-Labs.com
    • Coin-Corporation.com

This is one example where the plural domains sounds better than the singular domain but it will be lower in value. A nice name for a domain selling site.

Just my honest opinion but I would say business name generator is slightly better than company name generator.

If you search for something and then search again you are said to be re-searching although today the hyphen is often dropped so that it becomes one word researching.

In some instances both forms would be acceptable so this may have good potential.
