How should I got about selling this domain?

Hey everyone, I have sold one domain before, through sedo, the process was simple enough and I didnt really have to worry about getting ripped off or having my domain stolen.

Today I got an email, a fellow asking if I want to sell one of my domains and how much I wanted for it, he said that he could pay quickly through a wire payment. We are still back and forth negotiating a price at the moment...

I just want to know, once we are done negotiating, what would be the safest, and easiest way to go about getting my money and getting him the domain name? Should I ask for half up front and the other half after after he is in possesion of the name? It seems kind of risky, and I dont want him to think I am trying to rip him off of course...

I would like to stay away from sedo and the other places because honestly, I need the money asap, and I know at sedo it could take up to a month to actually get my money (unless there is a way I dont know about?). I am at a bit of a loss on how to quickly and safely sell the name... Would I be stupid to NOT use a service like sedo?

Also, if it does come down to him sending me a wire payment, could he do anything bad with the bank info I have to give him to get the wire? I've never got a wire payment from anyone before hehe.

I would appreciate any help on this vital step!

What ever way you decide to use to transfer the money just make sure you have ALL the money and the money is cleared before you transfer the domain. If its a large amout of money consider escrow.

Ok thanks! I just got the final offer from him, for 750 bucks. I told him that a wire would be perfect if he trusts me enough, otherwise I linked him to sedo, will see what he chooses! Cant believe I sold a domain name! The one I sold before was for a meager amount compared to this.

As you well think, the coin has two sides, and as you might not trust him to trasfer the domain first, he might not trust you to pay in advance, so, i think if thats the situation the better you could do is use a selling platform, that would ensure the transaction in some way.

My own experience: I bought a domain a time ago, i contacted the guy, we negociated and when we reached a price i asked him to transfer it first, once it was in my account, i payed him. We both played fair, but if even business face to face have some risk, just think its even worst when the potential customer could be 1000's of miles away.

escrow.com and moniker.com both provide escrow services for domains.
I don't know how much slower or faster they are than sedo's "escrow" service.

AKA: Escrow service as stated above

Wow if only everything was that quick. 30 minutes after we made the final deal, the money was in my bank account. Trust like that is rare!
