Hello,

Me and my friends were looking to start a site but the domain was taken: keepinitreal.com

I contacted the individual and he has gotten back to me and asked me to make him an offer. Since I'm still very new to domains, what do you guys think that domain would be worth and what I should offer the guy?

Any help and suggestions would be great.

Cheers,
John

No sorry, there was a reason I started this thread about that domain. I'm not interested in any other domains that you have listed above.

Thanks for your effort and offers though. I guess I should have stated that more clearly in my original post that I was only interested in that domain. :)

Would offer $500 and see how the owner reacts, bear in mind the guy has probably spent at least that in registration fees since 1998 so he'll likely ask a fair bit more than that. Looking at the site he seems to be a bit of a nutcase, good luck with it.

Did registration fees really used to be that expensive?

Well to be honest the domain itself doesn't say much to me
It depends how bad you want it

My suggestion is to find another one but from what i understand you want the specific domain for a reason so ...

A fair suggestion for nonsense domains trying also not to hurt seller's feelings for you, i believe it's $50

I think he will counteroffer (to his mind the site is somehow developed, he made some pages) with something higher and maybe you can find something in the middle. If he asks for large bucks then make your best offer and wait

(also i think he visits too much ebay. I keep remember the guy with the rabbit. He wanted money or else eat it. I don't have time, i could offer him a coke for digestion )

No, not for .com anyways. .com Domain Names were free previous to 1995.

Definitely not, as this is an insult. I think it might be in the best interest of the buyer and seller to go through Sedo and have them suggest an offer price for you.

It has been registered since 1998 for Keepin It Real Productions, which seems like (based on the site) just a bunch of old links and articles put together.

Another option is to go through Network Solutions Certified Offer Service. Very similar to Sedo.

Best of luck and let us know if you're successful.

"InterNIC didn't initially charge for domain name registration, but since 1995 it has imposed a $100 registration fee and an annual renewal fee of $50 after the first two years. With these fees, Network Solutions maintains a database of all registered names called the Internet Domain Name System (DNS)."

http://www.smartcomputing.com/edito...cles/archive/create/cre3897/cre3897.asp&guid=

Around mid 98 it changed to $70/ 2 yrs.

This person has paid 10 years of renewals on keepinitreal.com. His likely payments would be $100 + (8X$35) = $380 assuming he registered the name directly with netsol rather than with an isp. The present value of that $380 paid assuming a 5% interest rate is over $500.

Have you been able to talk with the owner and keep it real?
