gets picked up by another investor and they price it for $5000 or more?

How do you feel when a domain you let drop a few years ago is on the expiring domain lists again?

I haven't really dropped anything in 13 years except for a few. Think this is due to being profitable every year and too busy with website maintenance where a bulk renewal was easier than sitting down and analyzing. When profit is flowing in from 20 different directions easier to be lazy and just bulk renew. This year I did actually drop more than a few or a good handful of domains as keeping domains that are in the bottom tier of quality in your portfolio year after year is kinda like keeping a joint bank account with a girlfriend ya broke up with 10 years ago, hey why am I paying for her drinks now. Everybody has some turds in their portfolio some less than others.

As far as watching another domainer price something I dropped at 5k+ generally anything I drop would have been priced high as well as I'm a long term patient maximum ROI seller so if I dropped it means it sat for years without something happening so the odds are lower that it would sell big for them since been there done that. Can price something anyway ya want but it doesn't become premium until ya sell it at that price.

As far as watching something I dropped get re-dropped again I've watched it happen a few times on the few I've dropped. I've also watched domains I've sold for xxxx get dropped years later and I've picked a few of them back up.

The past doesn't define your future so I'd say make educated decisions based on statistics and never look back as a mistake is a tuition payment that ya learn from and as long as ya make more good decisions than bad ones you'll still graduate.

Kinda feels like when you break up with your girlfriend then you see her like a month later looking super fly and everyone is trying to hook up with her. ....lol Then you sit there and start wondering...wtf, was it a good move letting her go? BUT then just before you get all sad about it you see another really super good looking women smiling at you (another domain has come into your radar) and then you head over and chat to her :) The ex GF (domain) becomes nothing but a distant memory....lol

If a name I dropped got picked up and is for sale, who cares? Someone else is sitting on it and paying renewals instead of me. If it went on to sell for big bucks, that would likley trigger remorse, but falsely. Just because that buyer found that domain at that time doesn't mean it would have played out the same way if I still had the domain.

Nice question @garptrader - I use the same kind of reasoning to help me decide if I really want to buy. I pretend that I waited and then saw the domain was taken already and I missed it, and based on how bummed I am over my imagined scenario helps me know if I should buy it or not. And sometimes I really am on the fence and I actually miss out on a domain, at first it bugged me, now I get over it quickly too, plenty of other great domains just waiting to be found

I won't go back to see me drop of domain name, if it was the right person to have, I will feel happy, don't feel jealous, because he realized his existence significance and value in the world.

Sometimes conflicted as I've had many good names in the past; timing for potential sale was off. I see many I've dropped at Huge Domains so there is a small stroke of the ego, but in the scheme of things it means nothing. If someone makes a bundle off something I've dropped and they're not a major player, then I feel good about it / happy for them.

On the other hand, there have been many acquisitions from those who quoted high prices, but later dropped. I cannot understand why the people that quoted the $x,xxx pricing were unwilling to try and make a $xxx or even $xx so it paid for the reg / backorder. I do try to at least recuperate some costs, even if that means selling at a small fraction of a % of what I paid. That way I can at least renew another name or possibly reg something that came available, but don't want to put "new" money into the game.

I lost count of how many domains I dropped and HugeDomains has picked up. Hundreds! It doesn't bother me. What does bother me is when I see a name I dropped and is now developed into a real business.

What about when you make a sale through a marketplace and when you check it later it is under privacy and the domain is not being used but just sitting there and you don't know who bought it.

I needed a quick sale a while back and sold a domain for way, way less than I knew it was worth and then I saw it was protected by MarkMonitor and is not being used for a site.

Drives me nuts because I know MarkMonitor is used by big companies to protect their brand and the possibility that I could have gotten much, much more is bugging me.

I have picked up several of Huge Domains drops and also have seen my past domains listed on their site.

That's the way it goes.

The price someone else places on your expired drop really means nothing.

Most prices are arbitrary anyway.

We have all seen domains priced either way too high and occasionally priced too low.

Sometimes we have to make tough choices when deciding whether to keep or drop a domain.

I am going through this right now as I have a large block of domains coming up for renewal.

The longer you do this the better your domain choices get and the harder it becomes each year to drop domains when you need to.

i know that feeling but had i have kept the domain i would probably sat on it and the company that bought it are the perfect buyer for that domain i just didn't make Snyder money from them buying a domain i used to own and allowed expire
