I knew this was coming but not when.
Yes Facebook has been doing more research than anyone on this for the last 5 years. More than the FBI.
They already have a method for extracting that volumetric data from existing photo and video.
It has been very helpful to the FBI and NSA.
So it looks like they want a more perfect cam for capturing it more accurately.
Wonder if it has a IR illumination ?

So now that we have the outside of the earth 3D mapped, we can work on mapping the inside of your home and your face for identification at a distance and in any online photo ...LOL... Get'n CREEPY !

If you look at the CGI video in that news-post of @Onekey , it shows how important that volumetric capture is for "True MixedReality". Not what some of us want it defined as. For True MR, reality is virtualized.

Not bought any LIGHTFIELD names yet !......... I Don't see any broad demand for them....Yet
But I have had one on my short list for 2 years and it's still available.
Not sure if I will go for it. There are better, more likely names on my list.

In looking at the Facebook Omnispheric Cams and that 6DOF, I think the 6DOF is more a function of computer code and a 'zoom' factor rooted in the data from positional sensors.
It gets'R'Done. But It's not the definition of a Lightfield cam.

Pay attention to the Pixel Overlap in this video, that is the key to these cams 6DOF working well.

Been trying for the last 6 months to buy another premium and think I’ve done it *fingers crossed* don’t think I could have bought any better anyway (potential wise):-

Looking at Google Trends ‘VR Video’ outperforms ‘360 Videos’ and ‘Augmented Reality’ over the last 12 months, I believe the only VR+keyword terms that have outperformed it over the past 12 months are ‘VR P*rn’ (way above anything, currently even above ‘Virtual Reality’) and ‘VR Games’ (slighty) but it’s currently on par with ‘VR Games’.

If the schematic is accurate, then it seems to be proof that Apple has found it too hard to keep the TouchID fingerprint scanner on the front of the phone and moved it to the rear.

The schematic shows that the phone has dual camera lenses running vertically down the phone, rather than across the back of the phone as with the current iPhone 7 Plus design.

Those are optical receptors on the rear of the phone. That provided the "transparent iphone' rumors a few months ago and that's all I will say about that.
The goal was to move fingerprint scanner to the touch screen and remove the physical hardware to make more room inside. They were having some issues with that and while it created some delay's, I think it is on track again. (remember that touch screen is a pressure sensitive screen now). The remedy is in production.

@xr reality I could have added more to that but won't. I find reading some of those rumor sites just funny.
You need to know tech to be able to digest that info.
Schematics are electrical drawings and nothing to do with the physical placement of items. Except as electrically connected. They were looking at Drawings, not schematics and most likely ones that were purposed and not acted on (discarded). Same kinda junk that scoble reads and not understands.
I will also say this,
The possible change in the placement of the dual cameras probably has just more to do with internal space.
The cams are of different types to be used for different reasons AND the 'possibility' for functions to use them both together for better 3D volumetric mapping. But that is my rumor...LOL...
But I keep finding little tid-bits of info that make some kind of partnership of facebook and apple as it apply's to content a bit more likely all the time. Also my rumor...LOL...
So don't act on any of my rumors. And be just as weary of others also.

I don't see huge demand, but I would put it in the same bracket as 'stereoscopic' a few years ago. I'm pretty sure back in 2009 quite a number of people would have bought the best adult stereoscopic +keyword domain for x,xxx (I probably would have) but if I remember correctly the owner was asking for xxx,xxx.
