Hi

Just did a post under 1981.tv thread and this got me form a thread here.

With all the geo hype, content this, geo this, geo that, big developments in this space, yearly rental fees on prime names I got thinking on this again.

If you miss the boat on the geo market, values going up, etc what about grabbing zip codes.tv

I believe online.tv owns 90210.tv as I looked it up last year.

Last year I was thinking in grabbing some zip codes but didn't. I'm not a geo investor, not a developer, do not have the deep pockets to build zip codes.tv platform and etc

Curious what others think on this concept.

I will say that geo is best and always will be even with high yearly fees. However zip codes, building out a niche market, reg fee domain names I believe, this could be an option for your platform.

Marchex is doing this for .com and zip codes.

You will need A lot of money to brand zip codes but its an option or consideration like keyword channel.tv or discover keyword .tv.

Again, I am doing this post as interaction and again geo is the best route.

Not by any means of am I a developer nor a geo owner. Just wondering as a niche play for .tv

Cheers

J

I am not from the US and I have no idea where the zip code of 90210.tv is (some place important no doubt). However, I do know about New York; Boston; Seatle etc etc BUT I have no idea what their zip codes are.

I am sure there are also many people in the US that only know the zip codes of the major cities and those large places in their home State, but thats about it.

Bottom line, IMO, its would be one hell of an expensive branding exercise and thats just for the folks in the US. For the rest of the worlds population its probably even harder.

Good points mark.

I agree on international users and etc. Would fedunity be more of a niche, local market play.

I guess if I were buying zip codes I would be buying zip codes near me and be promoting local businesses and user base locally. Would be hard to role out a national zip code platform unless your a marchex lol.

I think a local company or .tv developer could role out a small platform around where you live and build it.

Just an idea.

Disclaimer. I am not encouraging anyone in doing this and be buying up this format. I also do not own any zip codes.tv format.

Frankly speaking, Jeffoverman. I think even zip code on .com is a joke, not mention to .tv
I have heard about Marchex's story since 2005. However, 3 years passed, I didn't think he had moved closer to his expectation yet.
Besides, who really remember the zip code you lived 5 years ago ? At least I don't. Also, one important factor for GEO.tv is the population living in the Geo area. How many people can be be included in a zip code area ? Don't forget, Zipcode can be changed after few years if it's needed, but Boston/NewYork will not be renamed at least in the foreseeable future. :gl:

Although i do actually know that 90210 is Beverly Hills ( mispent childhood watching cheesy dros on TV,this was in the days where we only had 4 channels to choose from :D ) I do completely agree with the points that Heroes makes, the $$$ needed to brand this would be absoloutely crazy and even then you are limiting yourself as most people outside the USA would never remember what the numbers were, instead they would go to Geo.TV or Geochannel.tv or even GeoTV.tv etc, imo you would be better buying the pure geo.tv and then building a site,it would work out far less expensive and imo far more succesful.

Not worth it in anyway IMO. Locales under a zip code can change. Not easy to brand numbers. 90210 is known for the TV show which BOB is being redone the CW casting a whole new 90210. Quick what is the zip code for LA, Second how many zip codes are in LA ?

Pure geo works Miami.tv, and maybe one or two alternatives like MiamiFlorida.tv Again IMO

Here is Sahar on Geo http://www.conceptualist.com/2008/05/29/the-other-side-of-geo

Personally, I wouldn't buy zip codes as it would limit the market serverly for people knowing what the zip code is. The only zip code I know of in the US is 90210 from the TV show

Some good points. Was just curious.

I like what marchex is up to and there names are undervalued asset I feel. The zips do change as well as area codes. Area code .com names are selling for huge amounts.

The only thing I would see myself is buying a few zip codes where I live and build a small platform but that's not me, geo are not really my thing so its not top of my list.

Marchex is very smart and a undervalued asset but this zip code bit I don't really agree on. Feel mixed some.

Only if you can get them for non-premium price I think it would be worth it.
