I wasn't going to announce it because I don't want everyone to think, "hey local experts is willing to pay $XX,XXX for any Geo Domain lets go out and buy them up", but we are in the process of acquiring all the assets of one TV domain investor.

The terms of the deal would mean that one of the Geo TV domains we purchased, due to special advantages we have in that region, is priced higher than any reported .TV sale this year.

Once again, don't go run and buy up all the Geo .TV domains at crazy prices because we wanted this one domain. For one thing, we bought PestControl.tv for $3,000 and people thought we were "nuts" so we may not be the best measuring stick to judge the marketplace.

We feel like we have one of the top 2 or 3 Geo TV holdings in North America and I feel like we have the right business model and a great domain portfolio.

I have the same metal model as Millers, the time has come to stop acquiring TV domains. I'm done with the aftermarket, because my budget for 2007 is spent. My focus is on development and execution.

Good luck to everyone,
George

Geographical he means CITY/State/Country

Well it seems like you have put a lot into your GEO portfolio Local good luck with it, if I can help let me know. Since I don't invest in Geo we don't compete for the same eyeballs so there is the opportunity for cross promotion.

Interesting. I think I know what you bought. When the time is right, would enjoy knowing what you acquired. GEO and .TV make a very nice combo imo.

The site we purchased was not Top 3, our entire Geo TV portfolio

is one of the top 2-3. As far as I know, beside the doctor that owns NY, LA, and SF, the large Geo TV holders are:

1) SKG (Cleveland, Minneapolis, San Antonio, Oakland, St Pete)

2) Farm.TV owns the largest Canadian Cities and several US Cities such as PROVO.TV

3) This company (ECG) owns WinstonSalem.tv, owns alot of tier 2 cities in the SE US including Durham.tv, JohnsonCity.tv, Fayetteville.tv, Charlottesville.tv and probably 100 GEO TV sites.

BTW, we not only acquired 1, we acquired 5 total Geos (4 of the Top 150 MSAs, 4 of the top 100 Largest cities, and a Top Tourist Destination). This was a package deal.

I'm committed to no longer login to this board until we are done, old habits are hard to break. No time to talk, must work! Hard!

My boss is a slave driver and we share the same body :)

These types of lists are very helpful. It's hard to keep track of who has what. SKG has some excellent GEO's = great list. And ECG has a number of North Carolina cities I'm quite familiar with.

Between ECG, Landmark, and us; most of the VA cities are taken

Our Virginia Cities
-------------------
NorthernVirginia.tv and NorthernVA.tv
Ashburn.tv
Centreville.tv
Chantilly.tv
Dulles.tv
Loudoun.tv
Chesapeake.tv (3rd largest City)
NewportNews.tv
VirginiaBeach.tv (Largest City)
Chesterfield.tv
Henrico.tv
Shenandoah.tv
EasternShore.tv
NorthernNeck.tv (my hometown)

Which reminds me Landmark Communications has HamptonRoads.tv, LittleRock.tv, Tampa.tv, Atlanta.tv, Seattle.tv, Syracuse.tv, Memphis.tv, Richmond.tv, Roanoke.tv, Tri-Cities.tv, Baltimore.tv, and a few more.

Yes, I believe in County Geos, especially when the city is small (ie Richmond - 200K in a MSA of 1.1 million). That is 900K living outside the city and with ties to counties stronger than the main city. Same with the DC area. The state of VA has restricted large counties like Arlington, Loudoun, Fairfax, Chesterfield, Henrico from incorporating as cities after the Tidewater area counties did it in the 1960s.

I have followed Farm.tv for a long time you got quite apackage Local, never was a fan of Geo I remember when first posting available Geo in 2005 the thread got little attention and now its everyone's hot topic.

OUR own JOHNTV is also huge in GEO only they are countries instead of cities. JOHN you still the man in my book. Another reason why there were so many GEO's available because IGAL and ELEQUA not interested, thankfully, or they would have all been regged by 02

"Research on-line, buy local"

until we can beam contractors or cosmetic surgeons from one part of the country to another, our service-based economy is still centered around the local community.

And despite what my friends in the Yellow Pages community will tell you, very few people find a local contractor (other than plumber) or cosmetic surgeon by letting their fingers do the walking.

Local has heated up in the past few years with the focus of Google and Yahoo on "Local Search"

Eq,

Why do you think that is??? Wasnt Associated Cities doing really well by 2001/2.....What do you think their reasoning was to avoid the GEO TV scene??

I agree 100% with LOCAL on keeping it local,,,,,,,,thats the real money spinner - I am really happy that 10 minutes before the floor completely caved in on the ability to snag any geo over 100k but less than 300k population wise, I managed to snag SANTACLARITA in CA & GARLAND in TX.

BTW, I have not received any serious offers whatsoever for Thailand TV.......perhaps once .TV gets some more limelight...I definately think it SHOULD be worth more than $10,000 that the .ORG went for recently........BUT should & is are two seperate things

Same reason why Associated Cities didn't grab all the .US GEOs

.COM is king and as IBM showed in the 70s when you are on top, you get Complacent.

.TV can be Microsoft to Associated Cities IBM.

Plus the most (not all) of the successful Associated City sites are tourist destinations and their sites are targeted for tourists, not locals.

Oh Millers I just think it was their personal feelings IGAL focused on a lot of adult .tvs and major generics and Elequa always told me he did not like GEO.tv To be honest when I first started posting about GEO.tv I was really pumped I think I let him talk me out of it a little. I mean I think everyone who has theirs will do great I just realized I let a lot go and that it would be foolish to start late in the game especially when I was there early in the game.

I like Local's model, I have followed Farm.tv for years and SKG and JOHNTV I think got great portfolios. With what I see people getting offers on country Geo I have no doubt you will get a good price for Thailand.tv

Whatever your extension or domain name, if you have a good model

it doesn't really matter. My old site was called netgenshopper(dot)com. You couldn't get a worse name than netgenshopper(dot)com. I remember in 1999, spending days trying to find an open domain name and that was the best we could find.

I remember my business partner was so happy due to the "net generation". I was like whatever, lets make some dough.

You can make a business work with a horrible domain name, you can't make it work with a horrible business model and executive team.

I believe in Geos. I could take many horizontal business models, turn it 180 degrees and make it a Geo business and make the same revenue. The difference, people feel more connection with their city name (and might return to that site if the content is good) more than they will return to a site called netgenshopper(dot)com or even respond(dot)com.

I live in Loudoun County, VA. I hear Loudoun 30X a day. Even more than I hear the word Yahoo, Contractors, or Cosmetic Surgeons. Now, that is a brand marketing managers dream to get their brand in your head 30X a day without paying a dime in advertising costs.

All we need is great content and the .TV extension to become recognized.

Why do I like .TV extension, because eventually it will be splattered all over our TV sets.

I like your model LE you should do very well, its always nice when you have a team rather than having to do it yourself, That is what has held me back from getting something done

Thanks 78, good luck to you

I love the debate.

The good thing about time, it heals all wounds and reveals many answers.

I did not know I was debating you in fact I am sure I was not debating you

I should have said discussion. I always love a good, smart discussion.

You are correct, debate was the wrong word. Sorry.

Localised Geo's certainly seem to be the vogue, I have few country .tv that have not attracted even low $xxx offers.
