First loves can be a very difficult thing to get over. There isn't anything other than time that can really make those feelings fade. You can distract yourself with work, a new lady, hobbies etc but in the end those feelings will still be there.

There is something very special about the first person you love, they will forever hold a small place in your heart. They after all are the one that opened up a whole new part of your heart, made you feel things that you hadn't really felt before. For that you will always look back fondly.

Over time you will find someone new and discover a whole new depth of love. There is no quick fix for heart ache. May your days be busy and your heart ache a little less each day! HUGS!!!!!

The way I see it, it's not the person I fell for first, but the person who I'll be offering my life to eventually (save the best for last). Our first love usually happens when we're really young. You know what else happens when we're young?

1 - Dependency
2 - Inability to cook
3 - Confusion
4 - Tendency to rebel
5 - ...efforts to mature
6 - A whole list of careless mistakes and irresponsibilities.

At that time of our lives, we're so unstable & unsure of so many things (while we were already thinking we knew everything there is to know). That said, how could we have possibly known what true love is when we didn't even understand half of what was happening around us?

I totally agree with you NPQueen. First loves gave many of us a whole lot of "first times" haha...so it's not something we can ever forget.

But why make your future husband or wife feel like you've settled for a compromise? The real treasure is at the end of the road IMHO.

That is so right. Agree with you completely.

For me, well, I used to fall in love every 3 months. But I have been in love with the same woman for quite a while now, and there is a very likely possibility that we might actually get married in a few years. Though she is not my first love, she definitely is the love I want to pursue.

I feel for you man, its never easy, but, although its a cliche- time heals all. Give it some time, keep yourself busy, put yourself out there and meet new people. It always seems like there is nobody better suited to you until you actually find them. You will never forget the first, but I'm sure you will find somebody who makes you even happier, when that happens, you won't feel like this anymore.

Well.. IMO its impossible if the love is real. I have loved my best friend for over 5 years but still, if i ever raise the topic she ignores me for months. The solution is to move on, but it really really is hard.

Yes, I am focusing on many other things at this time until I know what is the future hiding for me; there might be someone who changes the fact. But I do not know! Love; while it is so sweet thing, it can be a cruel feeling that lasts for big time.
