True Love

How many people really believe you can REALLY fall in love with someone before being at least 18-19 and actually know what it means? I mean really knowing the difference between lust and love.

Just got in a fight with my 16 year old cousin who thinks he is in love, and to me its obvious he isnt haha so I would like to see everyones view on this. I myself thought I was in love with my first long relationship gf til like 5 gf's later I looked back and realized I wasnt in love with any of them, it was all lust. Any thoughts?

Anything is possible. It happens a lot, high school sweet hearts staying together their whole lives.

I met my wife when I was in high school. I was 15 years old, she was 16. We dated through high school, college, and are now married.

My wife's grandparents were 16 and 17 when they met. They have been married for 63 years.

My parents met when they were 15 and 18 and they have been married for 28 years.

That being said, people give up on their marriages pretty quickly, so I'd encourage your cousin to take it slow. No need to rush into marriage.

Of course I believe there are some who fell in love by that age and knows what it meant but that's one in a million..

The question isnt whether its possible, its whether its understood at that age what love really means? You could stay with someone for a few years and they TRULY fall in love with them as well I guess I just got frustrated because teenagers throw the word LOVE around with every person they meet and defend it with everything they have, til a week later when they break up for something stupid lol.

I started seeing my wife when I was 14 and she was 15. We married at 20 and 21. I'm now 36. Looking back, our feelings didn't include lust. We were friends and did love each other. It could have been a naive puppy love at first, but it was more than just friendship. Every person has there own level of insight and ability to see things, but we knew we had something special back then.



I'll reevaluate this post when my daughter, who is now 13, starts dating. Until then, I say sure they can. There's no age restriction on feelings or your ability to understand them.

It all depends on their maturity. Love can occur at an early age, it just depends on how they handle it. It's not a normal occurance for love to last from such a young age, but it has happened many times. You probably know your cousin pretty well. What do you think?

yeah, and this is so true. my cousin and her long time bf met when they were in high school, till now they're still together and planning to get married.

love doesn't necessary mean you have to be old enough to realised you're in love.

Well he is my cousin so Im 98% sure its lust, just because I still see how he acts around other girls.

Reading all of these responses though I must say Im pretty surprised, I figured most people would feel love in high school was pretty much a joke for them also looking back. It seems Im much more closed minded about this situation than the rest of you, because Im looking at the 87236946 times I have seen my family and old friends throw the word love around after knowing someone for 2 weeks then breaking up 2 months later. I probably shouldnt generalize so much

I've noticed what you're talking about in my school, but only in the lower years. In years 11 to 13, relationships tend to last for quite a while. Over a year isn't uncommon. So I think people can love when they're ⩽ 18.

Generally true, though I'd be an exception. My girlfriend and I started dating in our Freshman year of High School. She had just turned 14 and I only had been for 4 months or so. I wouldn't say we were in as much love then as we are now, but most people knew by about Junior year it was something big. We've been dating for 7.5 years, and will get married within the next year. (Yeah, I know, but we waited until College was complete -- we ended up at the same school but we made it explicit that we both needed to go to the best College for us.)

So yes, I believe in it, but I think it's very rare. Several other couples our Jr. and Sr. years in high school had dated, but no one made it as far as we did.

My parents met at 15/16 and are still very much together. I think in todays world it is alittle hard to maintain but does still happen.

I think kids at that age don't have lust :D Its called just infatuation.

As for love I think you can fall over and over in love again and again. There is no limit to it. The right person at right time is what matters.

Logically telling I had love marriage instead of arranged one. But I am ready to accept that if I hadn't met her at all. Maybe I would have met someone else too. So it isn't my fault, its just destiny.

Nah just marry a girl when you think you cannot live without her. Then try to think it is arranged marriage. Tackle the problems and carry on the life If problems are going to happen then they will happen no matter what. I myself didn't knew anything so I just decided that from the day I married my wife I will just try and make her life as happy as possible. That is the only target and now with my daughter I have one more target just to keep her as happy as I can. You just have to decide on your own and take an oath inside that you will do anything for them. Just anything.
