I just made my fourth $x,xxx sale, in which I paid less than $2 for the domain (GoDaddy codes).

The first three I was super excited about my return-on-investment, but this time I am feeling kind of guilty for some reason! I actually need the money now more than ever, but was almost tempted to break the sale and offer the domain for like $20.

Has anybody else ever felt this way? I know I offered them a service by helping them get a domain that fit their business, but I still feel as if I am cheating them in some way.

Maybe I'm just tired or something...Let me know what you all think

No guilt when I sell a domain for more than I paid for it.

Did you actively market it or were you contacted?

Was it developed?

Can you give the domain name?

you should be proud instead of feeling guilty. the domain names that you came up with are the product of your intellect, the profit is a reward for your creativity and the risks that you assumed. if you had not thought of those names and bring the ideas forward, the ideas could be lost or left undeveloped. if the companies who bought your domains went on to create additional wealth/productivity/etc..., society can thank you for coming up with the ideas that help those companies succeed.

Congrats! I had my first 400% gain on one I bought for $1 a few months ago. Absolutely no shame at all! If someone took the time and trouble to track down the owner (you), then you should be pleased with your achievement and foresight.

I understand the feeling. Sometimes though I get the impression that there are names out there that people mean to register, forget about and then have to go out and find the person who bought it. That's happened to me before too.

What a strange world! Some folks are still struggling to make their first $500...

The world is really a funny one.

Provided everything is handled in an ethical manner, it's ok to make an $$$$ profit.

You shouldn't feel guilty, at the end of the day it is business... big corporations make even bigger profits on some products (if not all of them)...

How did you get those high end users? (if still feeling guilty, at lease share your secret) ;)

Pay it forward, do something good for a stranger (does not have to be monetary) ...maybe they will pay it forward and so on.

it feels better to give than I does to receive.

I think it's win-win, the buyer got a nice domain for their business. They paid the price but it's an investment. Nothing when compared to the cost of advertising.

I would have a guilty conscience if I were to realize that I just sold a domain to a buyer that was actually entitled to it, for instance a TM name or charity domain.

Here, you just made smart investments and took the risk, albeit a modest one. You happened to own something that somebody else wanted. It's fair.

In sales you should never feel guilty at all. After all something is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. If they didn't want to pay the price or think it was fair, then they wouldn't of paid it. Congrats on the sale and keep up the good work.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Luckily I am over it and am more motivated than ever! I must have just had a long day or something.

For those of you that had questions...

- I unfortunately can't give the name, but it was a geo domain and food related...such as AtlantaIceCream.com (not actually that city or food)
- I hand-registered the domain about a month ago (it dropped a few days before)
- I did a simple Google search for those words (ex. Atlanta Ice Cream), and e-mailed the top results. In this case, there were only about 6 results. The one I was hoping for ended up being the only one to respond.

Let me know if there are any other questions, and thanks again for everyone's feedback.
