I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Looking at the history on the Bido site, I see two domains that have gone to auction - not a bid for either. MBADegrees is a decent name, I would say, but the other 5HTP doesn't make a lot of sense in my opinion.

5HTP is a health supplement, not just a random NLLL so it probably has some value.

Any marketplaces for trading dot CA's out there?

I'm reluctant to put any on Bido because of the likelihood of purchasers not meeting the ownership requirements, or the likelihood of the names not selling at all and devaluing the whole extension. It would suck to be thought of in the same way as dot IM or other crap extensions.

If there isn't are there any developers out there that want to start one? I would be happy to help market just to get something off the ground.

Any .ca'ers in Ontario/Quebec want to get together in the next couple of weeks? As part of the TV show I am producing I'm currently traveling through Ontario and Quebec. Right now I am in Thunder Bay and heading further East this afternoon. Should be in the GTA area sunday or monday or so. Also hitting Ottawa, Niagara Falls, Hamilton etc before heading into Quebec. Drop me a PM or leave a message here.

The .ca has already established itself, a few non-sales on Bido won't
change the way it's viewed, the ownership requirements could be a sticky
point for anyone who bids and can't meet the requirements, however - if they
know anything about the ccTLD, they won't bid to begin with :tu:

I'm testing 3 on Bido ATM - but with the scrolling system they have,
takes a long time to find them - so I'm not hopeful.

No other marketplaces then? Anyone else? I know about Sedo and Afternic and Snapnames and BuyDomains. Is anyone getting any regular dot ca sales from these?

The Bido scroll is fast gaining notoriety mis_chiff, lol.

Would be nice to have a cctld exclusive marketplace for reseller/domainer names.:imho:

.ca Canada

Dose anyone buy .ca domains?
Any value?
Will they sell?

IMHO/personal experience

yes to all 3

I buy and I've sold.

Restrictions can hamper a good sale though, be sure the buyer
is aware of the Residency requirements.

and never reg a .ca with a registrar that says "we will be your required presence"
cause .ca does not legally allow that, and you will be at risk.

I dont understand what this means...Can you explain?

you can make ok money with them,
they are excellent for SEO since you can own a more premium keyword domains as compared to the global TLDs
.ca is an english speaking cctld for the most part which is a plus
However the smaller market and country restrictions make it more difficult to find a buyer as compared to .org, .net, .com
so these are some of the factors you may want to take into consideration

Does it take some time to reg a .ca? I bought one last night and when I do a whois search it just shows it reged to godaddy...will it always just show that or is it still prosessing and will eventually show its reged to me? Just wondering when its safe to say what it is without the risk of it being jacked...never reged a .ca and not sure about the details.

Thanks in advance

Whois privacy is enabled by default for personal accounts.

If you want to double check, you can login at cira.ca to ensure the domain is listed in your account. If you want to display your registrant details, you can also disable privacy from there.

Will they sell? Yes but I like to develop them.

If you live in Canada .ca's are really nice to have for your business. Just keep in mind when you want to sale them it has to be to someone with a Canadian presence.

Is there a legal way for a us citizen to reg a .ca? I'm thinking along the lines of .de, .co.uk, etc.

I've seen a few decent ones available to hand-reg lately.

I'm sure there are ways to get one, if you don't meet the requirements.
(friend/family with a Canadian address)
BUT, there is no legal way other than what is in the Registration Requirements.

Registrars who offer to be your "required presence", as they do with .de etc
are not allowed for the .ca and you will be at risk of loosing it.

Register a business in canada is the easiest way to get the .ca requirement satisfied.

There certainly are "ways", but I would be very careful doing so.

If another user complains to CIRA, they can and in many cases will investigate. We have clients who have legitimate dot-ca domains for their companies for many years and CIRA has randomly asked them to provide documentation proving they meet CIRA's minimum requirements.

So I would be careful... particularly if we're talking about a valuable dot-ca domain.

That's why I put the capital BUT, too bad you couldn't hear the sarcasm ;)

I'm sure there are a few people that shouldn't have them,
and they will, eventually lose them - as CIRA does check!

With or without a report!

I realize you weren't necessarily encouraging such behaviour. I just wanted to point out to others who read this thread... like you did... that CIRA does in fact check to make sure you meet their requirements.

So just registering the domain itself doesn't mean you're home free.
