Discount Domain Club

Well I have hosting fee's coming up this month and so I called godaddy for the first time since I've been a customer. I was helped by a very nice lady "S.Medina" she helped me with a nice coupon on hosting and also offered to enroll me in Discount Domain Club.

Now my question is it worth paying the $90/year for a great discount on domains. I mean to me it made perfect sense for the amount of domains I register throughout a year it would easily pay for itself. I wanted to get some feedback from other members on this matter.

I mean the pricing is pretty good and is a lot easier then searching for a coupon and hoping it works etc and prices are locked in for a year. So if your enrolled in this program offered by godaddy let me know what you think and such as I'm strongly considering joining.

For informational purposes here is the link to the Discount Domain Club:

http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/club/landing.asp?isc=wscfwst304&ci=8994#tabs

If this has been discussed sorry as I didn't search the forum before posting just wanted some fresh views before I commit to joining etc.

Thanks to all who contribute and take a few seconds to respond.

You can probably just use coupons to get domains for the same price. The question is: How much are you currently paying per domain?

You will probably want to target 100 to 150 domains to make it pay. Amortizing the cost over this number of domains brings you in close or better than Moniker in my experience.
$90 over 150 domains added back to the $7.29 fee (info from the link) gets you $7.89 each for the year plus whatever other benefits GD is offering from the club.

I'm a member of DDC. I like it a lot. Save all that searching around for coupons all the time. You get other stuff too, like free membership of TDNAM. Sometimes the coupon code will work also ;) Definitely a must if you can justify the price.

I purchased the Domain Discount Club on October 2007 about a week before the 2007 Verisign price hike ... at the time the cheaper price for renewals (for which I was mostly interested) was with my executive account (offered by GoDaddy if you had about 200-300 domains with them)

with DDC I could get about 20-25 cents less than the executive rate as well as the lowest coupon rate (that is for renewals because for new regs or transfers it was different)

I did my calculations and for the amount of domains I had back then (about 500) and the amount of renewals and new regs I expected in the next year it was profitable for me to buy the DDC

in the last 6-7 months I have seen coupons for renewals that have matched the $7.49 which is the current price of DDC for .coms (but of course coupons can stop working at any time)

anyways , this year I have lowered my domains to about 300 and together with the possibility of the cheap coupons I decided to not renew my membership

about a week later , when I wanted to renew some domains , I realised that my DDC rates still applied at checkout so I called GoDaddy to sort it out ... the customer service agent said she couldn't stop it manually , that it could take some days to purge through the system and that until it did I could pay the lower rate

2 days ago I renewed a couple of domains and the DDC rate still applies lol

final notes :

the DDC rate is for a year but it increases at the VeriSign price hikes , but by a rather fair amount (lower than regular regs/renewals hikes)

if you have an executive account the DDC is about $20 cheaper , at least it was back in 2007 (I think ot was $69.99 instead of $89.99) ... you have to ask your executive manager to purchase the DDC for you for the discount to apply

you get a TDNAM membership for free

and a CashParking yearly membership for free (in the ToS it says that when you cancel the CashParking membership a fee of $15-20 might apply ... I cancelled mine this year and there was no charge)

to calculate if it is profitable for you ...

find the difference between the DDC price and the lowest price (for renewals) you can get from coupons or from an executive account

devide the price of DDC (regular or discounted one) by that amount ... if you are planning to register or renew more domains than the amount you found from the division then it is profitable (alternativelly use coupons)

eg. if you can get the $69.99 price for DDC and the lowest coupon is for $7.70 ... devide 69.99 by 0.21 and you will find ~333 ... if you plan to reg/renew more than 333 domains in the next year then it is profitable

(the ease to not have to search for coupons is an extra)

if there is an increase from VeriSign next year the increases will be rather proportional so it doesn't affect the formula much (though it is advisable to renew many domains together just before the hike so as to take advantage of both the DDC and the pre-hike price)

this happens lol, but only for .com domains

Try .net, org, biz, etc
much more cheaper than coupen codes.
and if you like to get TDNAM membership, CashParking Account, 5 Domain appraisals you should go for DDC

I did say that sometimes the DC still works.

as I said , DDC was profitable (for people with 300 domains or so) up until 6-7 months ago
(I mentioned the formula in the previous post in case a cheap coupon cannot be found)

as I said , before 6-7 months a coupon appeared that matched the $7.49 price of DDC .com renewals

I just searched the coupon thread and I found coupon yhkw105a that makes .com renewals $7.19 (including ICANN fee) ... just checked it and it works

of course coupons are not stable (they can stop working any time) ... but as long as that coupon works (or other similar) , the DDC membership fee is excessive

if you renew many alternative extensions (that might? be cheaper with DDC) or you are interested in CashParking , TDNAM , not-searching-for-coupons so much that you want to pay $89.99 (or $69.99) for it then it would be a good idea ... but as long the above or similar coupons exist , I doubt it

I wanted to thank you all for contributing to my query on this matter. I have decided it would be wise for me to just pay the $90 minus a very nice discount from godaddy etc. I figured it up in my head and I reg around 2000 names a year and flip almost 1800 of those so I feel it will pay for itself quite nicely in due time. I appreciate all who responded and thank you for all the views and angles etc.

Thanks again ;)
