Just received this email from Dan.com about commission increases (snippet of email):
Thoughts?
Thoughts?
less than a month to stop life and change all your names around 3000 domains all over the place or pay 25% if you forget to cancel afternic my suggestion is do what I did ,turn all domains to hide on afternic which releases you out of your aftergoDaNNYyuni obligation oh yeah godaddy eatiing everyones lunch ,but wall street technology coming to domains soon ''mayb'e'' nasdaq market makers thinking about using supersonic speed to start catching some gems. This is an alignment of commissions across the GoDaddy aftermarket. You can read more about this move here: https://uniregistry.com/blog/post/godaddy-aftermarket-alignment
or https://news.dan.com/221733-dan-and-godaddy-aftermarket-commission-alignment
That's nothing new. I'm talking more for domainers who will be missing the coverage at GoDaddy, you can simply list direct with them.
There are some annoying Afternic issues that go back many years and are still not fixed.
They still don't have a proper search engine, where you can narrow down what you are looking for.
Brad
Nothing to do with poor or rich. It has to do with high fraud activity or sanctions on the country.Because Escrow is not supported in poor countries.
edit: i think this is related to something locally, our government does not want you to get rich, because if you get you can come into high position and wipe them out of their deeds.
even a better year when godannynic buys them outI wonder if sellers who use Efty landing pages that use Dan for check out will still only be charged 5% or 25%?
If 5%, I think Efty could have a great year.
You’re right, rereading the email. You will pay 25% if you list domains directly at Godaddy (when not using their NS)
I received email from Godaddy Auctions confirming that
So there is no workaround thanks for the suggestion though
Does sedo offer SSL on their landers yet? Before the redirect that is?
Can't seem to find it and getting thrown security warnings is off-putting.
Even better for me, 15% instead of 20%
For now? Don't get any stupid ideas now...We'll be keeping it at 10% for buy now saleslander sales for now.
You mean like getting the point of 25% since you’ve repeated it many times already?Yes we know that 15% is good news for many, we got your point you repeated it many times already.
But it is not about only you, the 25% is bad news for the users of:
- Brandable marketplaces such as SquadHelp , Brandbucket, Brandpa ..etc.
- Bodis & other parking services
- Domain.io and other new landing page providers
- People who use their own websites
Additionally, few top sellers will not be happy with the removal of tiered commission at Afternic.
So what Godaddy did is almost crushing all other small competitors with one simple move, they know that Afternic traffic is indispensable and that the 25% penalty will put pressure on all of us.
It would have been seen as positive move if Godady did in the following way:
"We will reward you if you point to us by reducing commission to 15%, if not then you would pay the old 20% commission"
If they did it that way then it would have been seen as a huge positive plus to them, because it is rewarding system not penalty system. And I am sure that if they used that then people will automatically start converting more to their NS, but now many people will get angry and will do the opposite.
Well, as a domainer you adjust
As a competitor you compete
When I said domainer, that meant everybody. What other option is there besides adjust.Again it is not about only you
Personally I am not affected that much because I left SquadHelp in 2021 , and I was already using DAN/Afternic before the fees increase announcement.
but lets be less selfish and think about others, there are people that make living from Bodis (not me)
I hope you understand
I didn't wait until Feb, and made some changes right away in pricing. My Afternic BIN prices are slightly lower now. Will keep all my landers at Dan for the moment.
Simple. Support the competition instead. It is just so blatantly anti-competition I am not sure how you could possibly defend it.
Brad
Then why complain? We complain for nothing if we don't do something. The competition have to also be up to par and offer equivalent or appealing service before just randomly moving to the other side..
Simple. Support the competition instead.
Well, like I said I am considering options. I am just starting to research now when it comes to landers, negotiation process, payment systems, payout options, etc. Then why complain? We complain for nothing if we don't do something.
It's a simple decision.
Either accept the system as it is, with consequences.
Or, chose to go with competition, also with consequences.
There's not way to have the cake and eat it as well here.
What are customers supposed to do just bend over and take it? I think it is perfectly reasonable to voice your feedback. Can’t do hot girl advertising anymore, won’t fly today. What else did GoDaddy do?
Super Bowl commercials? Most don’t have that kind of money.
$1 coupons for dot coms. The GoDaddy coupon thread used to be one of the most active threads here before they killed that. Coupons everybody could use. Other registrars should dollar up, get people into your site, keep them coming back.
Maybe if we had more threads on this GoDaddy will change their mind. Only about 8, need at least 10 and they’ll go back to 20%
Dan announced commission increase
Dan.com has just killed itself
Dan Commission Update
Dan.com to increase comission from 9% to 15% effective Feb 1st 2023
Afternic to Increase Commission to 25% for Those Not Using The GD-Related Landers, But Decrease Commission to 15% for those using them.
What are best alternatives to DAN? (since Godaddy has bought & ruined the service as expected)
As GoDaddy changes commission rates at Afternic, DAN, Uniregistry at what point do their actions become monopolistic?
Now that DAN updated it's commission, what's the best approach?
I think they have a pretty good idea after 8 threads. I think they knew before the first thread was started. Nobody likes price increases. As far as their more GoDaddy centric users, you’ll be paying less. I didn’t even take into account the domains I sell via GoDaddy auctions, I have those all set to Make Offer. What are customers supposed to do just bend over and take it? I think it is perfectly reasonable to voice your feedback.
If GoDaddy doesn't want to change, that is fine...but they should know how customers feel about it.
Brad
Going down this path is also a slippery slope IMO.Yes, yes, yes, the 25% that people will pay that don’t use their landers. Again, the only thing you can do is adjust the best you can. Use their landers and pay less. Factor it in to the price if you use other landers. Find something else.
