Verisign, the registry that handles .NET domains, will be increasing their prices February 1st and this means GoDaddy's prices will be increasing as well. Here are the details:

- This is a $1 price increase on all new registrations, renewals and transfers.
- The change will take place February 1st.

If you want to take advantage of the current rate, please do so before the price change on Feb 1st. Once the change is in place, we will be unable to retroactively price any domains.

Don't we have to get 6 month notice of a price increase from them? I don't remember getting any notices.

Good thing they are raising prices. I don't think any of these registries have made any money at all in the last year.

Millions of new registrations and they still need to increase the renewals...HMMMMM

We are soo stupid....we should be buying their stock not their domains!!

No they don't need to give any notice. I was completely wrong about that part.

.Net need to compete with New Gtlds therefore price raise maybe not a good sign.

I know this thread is about .NET tld, but did .COM also go up? Last week I reg'ed a .com for 8.37 (ddc member) now its 8.47. 10 cents isnt a big deal but just wondering if anyone else noticed.

Higher renewals detract from the value for me. Look at the .ws 2-3 char that didn't sell due to high renewal fees. They had to adjust the renewal down to regular renewal to make them more appealing. They are charging an upfront fee on them though.

.net are not high renewals but doesn't help to raise the renewal.
Plus it would be nice to get a couple month notice to start renewing .anything

.ws is garbage, trash.
How many domains they have registered?

.net is well known and respected TLD, second in the world after .com with over 15 mln. registrations.

Huge difference.

.net renewal is not high, on GoDaddy .org have higher renewal price, also .info.

It was known that prices for .net were going to go up in February, at least I knew it in September-October.

I agree .ws is junk
.net is not high renewal

Did you get an email about a price increase? I didn't know until I just seen it on here. I'm behind the times.
It seems like there should be a standard to notify domain owners of a renewal price increase.
Or I need to keep an eye out for an email from GD.

Thanks for letting us know about the price hike! I went through and renewed all of my .net domains for another year.

I don't remember the letter, but getting GD spam daily could easily miss it.

Anyway I knew about price increase. When we tracked LLLL.net buyout someone posted link with news about price increase in February by Verisign. GD is just a messenger.

I don't have too many .net, but if I did, it would be nice to start renewing them many months before the price increase to help even it out a little.

I'll ask GD the next time I talk to them on what their policy is about renewal notifications. I usually check my spam but haven't noticed.
At least WE let each other know about these changes. I just wish it was standard practice for the registrars to give notice.

It may be just GD though, I think that saw alert at Namecheap about .net price increase after logging in.

Everyone should pay $120 for the Discount Club and expect to pay Uniregistry custom prices... OMG! lol

There's no closeouts at Uniregistry. That was my main reason to pay GD, and for $120 you can get almost 2 years membership.
