In the new Sales and Revenue Accelerator feature, what does this line mean:

"The revenue from this markup is split between the seller and DAN and reinvested into the marketplace."

The markup is an additional fee paid by the buyer for using the extensive lease to own. The markup is added on the total sale price, and 50% of the markup will be used by DAN to cover for the recurring payment processing fees, domain renewals & providing DNS support to the buyer for example. The remaining 50% of the markup is paid out to our sellers.

Looks great, I think! Will be exciting to see how it works out.

One small suggestion: When a potential buyer clicks "Lease to own now", I think it should be possible to drag the actual text that says "drag me" instead of only the timeline beneath it.

We have released the new lease to own feature. Currently, you can grant installments up to 12 terms. Additional terms can be realized but only through the lease to own model.

a huge issue is the handling of the VAT

in germany VAT ( value addied Taxes ) is 19%

so it's a huge difference in terms of price awareness
if its 19% more or less

selling at afternic doesn't need VAT to be discussed
as afternic acts as the seller
to whom I sell and
the buyer buys from afternic- great:
no VAT from germany

sell at sedo means : all prices include VAT
which is really bad as when the buyer is not from germany
he sees a price that is 19% higher than asking for

sedo refuses to handle this issue for more than 10 years


now at DAN they understood and handle it well

but it's more complex in terms of
how to get the sale

when a buyer from germany is not a consumer who buys the domain for his daughter,
but a business person, who buys the domain in order to generate more business
he most of the time gets the VAT amount refunded by the tax authorities

means: he doesn't need to spend the VAT amount - just pays the amount upfront and gets it refunded later

so he is not interested in that amount in the first place
when talking to a customer on the phone you would never mention the price including VAT
but only name the price excl VAT

so you talk about 2500 euro, not 2500 plus tax 2975 โ‚ฌ
talking about 2975 โ‚ฌ would be mad as that is much higher = eventually no sale

but when the buyer is private you are legally not allowed to show the VAT excl. price
and later add the VAT

so its all about how to display it properly in order to comply legally and still get the sale from a business person


the idea is: not to scare them away when showing the BIN

I would suggest showing 19% including price
but in a way that it hard to focus on that price

Dan.com Can you make a tutorial video about the process of purchasing a domain name? Because buyers asking how the process will proceed after an agreement has been reached.

Should DAN as a registrar joins afternic, it should be accepted. Why not, we are also have Dynadot, Epik, NameSilo, NameCheap - they are all afternic partners, and run own marketplaces. And, there is no other way to have domains listed on GD. So the question is to DAN - if, in its opinion, Afternic/GD is a competitor - then DAN may elect not to join Afternic.

The new roll-out of lease-to-own options is cool.

I am curious as to why you're only able to edit domain's preferences for this from the portfolio?

Once you select an individual name, you're still only left with the option to set a BIN / make offer.

It would be nice to have the lease/rent/BIN/make offer options there as well.

There is only so much we can display within that section. However, when you click on the domain itself and find the (edit button) in the upper left window you will be able to impose fairly any desired changes already.

Observations after testing a buy of one of my names listed with both a low offer price and high BIN at DAN.COM

I believe the new payment plan with up to 1-year free of cost (reduced from 2 years) and up to 5-year plans with as much as 30% extra cost is a great idea, unique and real valuable concept.

I love the overall idea, implementation, colors, style and formatting, etc.

Don't like how the 30% is viewed as an extra cost or a higher price to pay. It could be much better accepted by buyer if it was simply called finance charge or interest so buyer doesn't argue for lower price or not buy.

Don't want buyer to know how many sales I had and how many offers, My poor ratio is a negative.

I do like the domain expert a lot but see no obvious way to contact or call the expert. So a dubious value.

And the biggest negative is don't see any way a buyer can first look at financing options as a sales tool I can use to help him decide to buy with a pre-selected financing term and the payment plan from 1 to 5-years.

Worse yet, did not see a way to make an offer, only buy at BIN with terms selected after clicking buy. In fact, did not see a way to submit an offer on that page, just buy at BIN price. A huge negative for me.

P.S. I am not positive this review is fully accurate on how it works but think it may be.

All implementations are added based on first-hand experiences while helping your buyers through support and account management. As trust is a high impacting factor, many questions are raised by your buyers on a daily basis which is actually answered through these details already.

that is exactly the opposite of what I suggested

its best to show the net ( excl ) price big and bold
and the incl very very tiny

Here's what I want with that, instead of a make offer maybe have a button beneath Seller box saying "Send seller a message"

For domain expert, there should be a box to ask a question or get in touch with expert.

I think mentioning seller, online status and other stats would help build trust more easily.

I'm afraid all the color options skew the original image to look off color wise. Would be great to have a "vanilla" option, ie no color added to image.

Another suggestion, because the predominant domain name text is green, it kind of disappears on blue background. The plain lander has this text in white, works better, more all round.

Either that, no color added, or the option to disable/change the background image for either lander version (plain or brand package)

Actually, an opportunity to contact two different parties (the seller and the "expert") would be misleading. First, this particular wording potentially raises a question: The seller is not an expert then, so who is he, a "dummy"?
Second, having 2 contact points is not good by default. There should be one. It is easier. For a lot of buyers, there is no difference between the seller, the markerplace platform and the registrar. It is a fact. On various occasions, for example, if I had pre-sale email corresepondence with the buyer - he would send me extra questions as to how to manage his domain, weeks or months after the sale. Or, if the marketplace requested something from him - such as an ID or anything signed, they scanned it and sent to my email instead... Wrongly delivered e-mails would not happen @ DAN since there is no sellers email shown, so I am writing this just to illustrate. Only one contact point should be offered.

Agree that you as the seller should have full control over stats displayed, just like optional traffic stats.

Simply put, I don't want my number of active negotiations, offers, sales, etc. displayed on my lander.

This has still not be resolved - even with disabling all options in the Settings/Profile, the information about Offers received/sold is still visible.

Genuinely you need to fix this asap, and next time you release new features, they should be OPT-IN, rather than OPT-OUT - I find this a huge violation of my privacy.

I see the only one positive change: the domain font is better.
