@LaszloSchenk - When sharing a link to a domain for sale landing page on social media like Facebook or Twitter, the card title (og title meta?) shows as "exampledomain.com - Domain Name For Sale | DAN.COM"

Although having DAN.COM at the end of meta title may be good for DAN branding I wonder if it confuses potential buyers, possibly decreasing leads for sales. Nothing against it personally, just trying to put myself in the shoes of a non-domainer prospective buyer. Most non-domainers probably have no idea what DAN is.

What do you guys think?

When I paid someone on DAN I happened to notice that there's no option to pay with crypto. Does DAN no longer accept buying with crypto or are they processed manually?

Good morning @Maxxo,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

We do not notice any significant difference to it. Instead it shows the platform that can be used to secure the domain. If anything it should take away any doubts but rather spark ones interest.

Have a great week!

@DAN.COM, @LaszloSchenk

Simple push is required, but since you only answer 4AM US weekdays and off Weekends.

THREE days. done late Friday. Transfer would have been faster since seller could give auth, but now name is held Dan namecheap escrow.
I tried giving seller my Namecheap username
it was too late. See you next Monday 4AM :hungover:

What’s wrong with that picture?
Good morning @Samer,

Thank you for notifying us.

Please private message me the domain involved. This should not take this long indeed.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Good morning @eternaldomains,

We do still offer this option but due to the currency being highly volatile we always need to schedule an appointment for it. This can be done through our support and chat.

Have a great week.

It would be nice to have a button to put all bold "unread" messages to "already read" status.

Good morning all,

We wanted to give you an update regarding the global outbreak of the Corona virus. Europe is currently is coping with a massive outbreak of the virus. Due to this the Dutch government has stated a country wide lockdown causing a lot of businesses to temporarily close down. We want to assure the platform users that DAN.COM will remain fully operation at all times. Regardless of the outbreak it will be business as usual for our users. DAN.COM took the required measures ensuring no user will experience a difference in service delivered.

What's the minimum price to initiate a portfolio escrow? Almost killed a deal the other day when I thought I could use DAN for that only to find out that mid $xxx is too low for a portfolio escrow. Need to know so that I can tell clients ahead next time.

I used to have an email notification from DAN every time there's an offer for me. I always have my phone handy with me checking my emails every now and then. However, last month I had some offers at Dan without receiving a single email notification from them. As I did not open my dashboard at Dan for the past few weeks due to a business trip, I had no knowledge that I've got offers for 3 domains. Offers have not been responded consequently and so they just expired. It was only yesterday, when I opened my DAN dashboard that I learned about those offers. Luckily, one buyer though made an attempt to make another offer at Sedo which informed me via email and which resulted later on to an $x,xxx sale. Wondering if others continue to receive DAN offers thru their emails.

Good morning @eternaldomains,

DAN.COM is focussed on end users and therefor does not provide portfolio escrows in a daily basis. There is no minimum as the feasibility depends on a number of factors:
- Portfolio size
- Amount of registrars used
- Registrar used
- Total price for the amount of domains

Have a great day.

Good morning @4better,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

In each situation will an email be send to all our users once there is an update to give. We have received similar remarks before and in 10 out of 10 situations the emails got delivered to spam/junk or was marked/blocked by the users by accident. If you send me a private message through our support chat I will make sure to verify which is causing the emails from being delivered to you.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

@LaszloSchenk Thanks for the reply. I've checked the spam/junk folder but still no email came from DAN. Sending you a PM thru your support chat. Thanks.

Hi all,

First of all, apologies if this is stating the obvious, an edge case or somehow my inexperience speaking - I'm not really in the domain trade, I simply represent a startup looking to purchase a brandable .com.

9 days ago I purchased (ha) a domain on dan.com. I received a code to my buyer control panel after sending them the money via Paypal. The site does look trustworthy and they tout hassle-free and swift transfers. This was critically important to me, due to time constraints and internal concerns we went for a fixed-price offer.

Then came trouble. Over the week following the payment, we received not transfer instructions but non-updates to the tune of "the seller hasn't transferred the domain name to us yet". Ultimately dan.com "terminated" the transaction and initiated a refund, which is currently pending with Paypal.

I asked my transfer specialist about this and he offered this as an explanation:

This is the seller's first sale, and we haven't really tested him yet, but due to this transaction, we are going to delete his profile and block his account.

Needless to say this only amplified our frustration, I can only envy a company who can afford to test their offering on live customers. Now that over a day has passed, I took the liberty to check the seller's other domains (due diligence now that my trust in dan.com has been undermined). His profile remains intact at the time of writing this post, only difference being the domain I "bought" is no longer listed.

Looking through the seller's domains I found that:
1. every registered domain uses a different registrar and points to an IP address in a different country
2. one of them is listed on godaddy for almost 10x the price compared to the dan.com listing
3. one of the seller's domains listed on dan.com has never been registered (I blacked out the name partially to remove identifiable information about the seller)

Since I cannot post links or attach images, screenshots are available at imgur.com/ctoiSNY.png imgur.com/eb1o0lp.png and imgur.com/b4VwpLW.png

The seller has been on dan.com since October 2019 and there's no way for me to tell how many others have gone this road. As it stands, we've had the money held for 9 days and counting with no domain name to speak of. I understand this is a marketplace and the seller can "change his mind" like he seemingly did here, but if that's the case - how is the process different to simply messaging them saying "Hey John, Kate is offering $500 for your domain! Click here to reply"? Why is money being taken from customers with no guarantee and recourse? Do all marketplaces work like that? Could they keep saying "the seller is not responding" for months instead of 7 days? Keep in mind they accept wire transfer and BTC, making disputes and chargebacks difficult in some cases.

Their "buyer guide" states that all offers I place are legally binding. Apparently this only works one way.

Obviously with quantity comes difficulty in vetting domains you have listed and I understand "things happen" but listing a domain that has never been registered sounds like something that should be easily caught. On top of that, either the process of delisting domains and blocking a seller's account takes several days or I was misled to think there are any repercussions for not following through with a domain sale on dan.com

I apologize for the long rant (and again - maybe this is par for the course) but I felt it adequate to share my situation with the community and try and find answers to some questions this process has sparked. I mean no harm or disrespect to dan.com or my assigned domain transfer specialist (who has been quick to respond and explain the delay). This post serves to share my experience and seek answers to concerns raised in the process.

I'd like to begin to say that I (and many sellers that work with Dan) can assure you that Dan.com is a very reliable and trustworthy platform, and I have no affiliation with them other than being a seller myself. They act as an escrow company when you purchase domains through Dan.com - the funds are secured before sellers are instructed to transfer the domains, for obvious reasons, but sellers are only paid when the transfer is complete. If the transaction was cancelled, then Dan will 100% refund you the funds.

There's a few possible reasons that a domain transaction cannot be fulfilled, I think the most common reason is that the seller no longer owns the domain, and has forgotten to remove the domain from their portfolio. Most sellers list names on multiple platforms, and sometimes they simply lose track and accidentally forgot to remove names in every marketplace when a name gets sold somewhere. There could be other possible reasons like a change of mind, but that is very rare and unlikely. Regarding the "unregistered domain", it could be the seller let the name expire and again, forgot to remove the domain from the portfolio.

Various marketplaces take various measures to ensure the domain owners actually own the domain, and continue to own them through out the time the names are listed. I agree that this is something that Dan.com can improve on. Almost every time I update my portfolio and try to import new names, some names fail to import because they are listed in other people's portfolio (the previous owner forgot to remove the names), and I have to email them to manually move them to my portfolio. Ownership verification can be done through TXT record etc, and I hope Dan take similar measure in the future to avoid what this customer is experiencing and reduce the amount of unfulfilled transactions.

Hope this clears up some questions and frustrations. Dan.com has very good customer service and support, I suggest emailing them directly for questions/concerns and assistance.

@brandsly thank you so much for the insight! The unregistered domain has never been registered before, according to domaintools.com and whois.com, though. Not by this seller, not by anyone. That said, I don't know if those are accurate and report expired domains accordingly. I certainly understand listing domains on multiple sites and forgetting to take them down after a sale is made.

I suppose my main gripe is that even though dan.com accepts payment, there is no guarantee whatsoever of the domain actually changing hands. As you said - ownership verification is possible and (I assume) relatively easy to implement. Definitely something I had expected from a site with such reputation and size.

I’m sorry that you had such a bad experience and I’m also sorry that there are some unethical domain sellers. I myself get solicitation emails from people offering names that are not even registered sometimes. However, this does not represent the industry and the majority of investors don’t do things like this. Just like every industry and various other types of marketplaces, there are questionable practices and bad exceptions, like counterfeit goods on ebay/Amazon, sold out items/unfulfilled orders etc. Dan.com was a relatively new player in the industry and there’s definitely still things to be improved, especially domain ownership control as you have mentioned.

Hey @LaszloSchenk do you think showing the domain age & maybe length for domains that meet the criteria could entice more people? Here is an example from Brandpa
