You can still sell them, but you have to list them as "classified ads" which costs about $10 for 30 days ad and hardly anybody will even see it so I think it's safe to say that you can no longer sell domains on ebay after March 31st.

Some people use Ebay as their main place to sell DN's. So for them I can see how this is a crappy move by Ebay.

I list domain classified ads and get alot of response from those too. Ebay isn't as bad a domain aftermarket as you would think.

Just got a clue!!!

Read the announcement again!!

Hello...This is Brian Burke, Director Global Feedback Policy. Digital goods are often reproduced at little to no cost to the seller. On eBay, this creates the potential for Feedback Manipulation (both real and perceived). To preserve the integrity of the Feedback system, effective March 31 all goods that can be digitally downloaded or transferred electronically must be listed using the Classified Ads format.

Using the Classified Ads format, sellers receive a 30-day ad at a fixed price. This solution enables sellers to continue to market their digital goods on eBay; however, because Classified Ad listings are a lead generation tool and do not result in transactions that go through eBay, Feedback cannot be exchanged between buyer and seller.

Sellers who wish to continue to offer digital goods can do so by selecting the Everything Else>Information Products category in the Sell Your Item form and choosing the Classified Ads format (not auction-style or fixed price). For more information about the Classified Ads format, please read Advertising with Classified Ads.

The next day is April 1.

I am not sure, whether they are going to adopt this policy or not!!!

Email or visit my site. I don't usually publish my phone number. Maybe I should.

They will. eBay (unlike Google) doesn't make jokes about stuff on April Fools.

This was necessary. Because eBay -> Paypal and Paypal doesn't provide protection for digital goods, this is a step in the right direction towards avoiding alot of headaches (speaking from past experience with digital goods on eBay here...). There's alot more to this story of banning digital good auctions than sellers quickly boosting/manipulating the feedback system, that I'm sure...

For the record, eBay started banning auctions related to certain digital goods awhile ago (2007). I was making some decent coin brokering MMO currency transactions before eBay shut that down...

Yes, you can list domains at ebay as always. Despite the speculation here and elsewhere, this new policy does not affect domain names.

It is for the type of digital goods that do not change from one BUYER to another; ebooks, templates, clip art, reports, collections of any of these, etc. FYI, custom versions of some of the above are not affected by the new policy either, like a website, logo or template that the seller creates unique for each buyer.

Here's yesterdays's Q&A from an ebay exec on the new policy.

That's correct. By the sounds of it, pretty much everything other than domains that's digital is no longer acceptable.

There's a record of any changes that do happen with domains, so it's much easier to resolve conflicts than with say, ebooks -- and there are costs associated with purchasing/registering domains, unlike ebooks, making it costly to raise feedback by selling domains under costs.

I've seen a few scammers buy/sell a bunch of ebooks for $1 or less in the past. I'm sure this raised a red flag and it's good that they're taking the necessary steps to prevent people from getting tricked into having confidence in members with 100s of positive feedback for $1 purchases/sales.

Hi,

Thanks for the link to eBay Chatter.

That's a new one for me.

I just got this quote by Brian Burke in a newsletter from Intime Domains:

"Domain names are permitted, along with services and tickets, but we will watch it for manipulation, especially the low priced (e.g. $0.01) domain names and may revisit the exception in the future (there is no viable business model for selling an item for $0.01 when it costs $0.15 to list)."

Disregard that last post. I just got another email from Intime Domains:

"Hello,

We had sent out an email this mourning entitled....ยจ Good News...Domain Name auctions are allowed on eBay.ยจ

We had quoted a statement from an email we received from an unknown source. We want to make it clear, and until future notice, that this is NOT a quote from Brian Burke.

We should have looked more into the statement and failed to do so. We want to apologize for the invalid information. At this time we are unsure as to if this statement is true or not. Because of this we must revoke what we wrote until more investigation is taking into the matter.

We have been searching for more details, but most of eBays discussion/chatter boards are under maintenance until tomorrow. We will continue to look into this and keep everyone posted.

Thank you for your understanding and continued relationship with intimedomains. "

Hey kwg2200, thanks for your post, but what is your point?

Are you retracting your post in your same post or just trying to spread the name of the previously unknown domain name "authority" in--time--domains?

I was trying to retract my post, but I'm not sure what happened. I first posted around one o'clock and then posted my second message as a new post a few hours later and they somehow got combined. I couldn't figure it out so I just left it. Sorry for the confusion.
