You can still sell them, but you have to list them as "classified ads" which costs about $10 for 30 days ad and hardly anybody will even see it so I think it's safe to say that you can no longer sell domains on ebay after March 31st.

folks reading this announcement should not have read anything into it. Downloadable goods are not domains.

Absolutely.

Ebay will not restict domains as some domains will be sold at as much as million dollars. But downloadable things are sold at 1 p or 10 p etc and not profitable for ebay.

There are so many things that could be cleaned up at ebay. Charging $10 to sell a domain would be a great start. maybe we wouldnt need to look at so many bad ones.

Exactly. I've definitely been told that something was "All good" by eBay tech support, when in fact it was not at all "good."

A quote from further down in the article reads: "all goods that can be digitally downloaded or transferred electronically"

The part I highlighted in red is the part people have had concern about especially the words 'all', 'or' and 'transferred electronically'

So, can we or can't we?
I am not much of ebay person.
I listed 2 domains with $1K reserve each and sold one.
That's it. But, I was going to try again.

Well I listed a domain name on ebay today, and I did not get the 'warning message' the digital goods people are getting when trying to list (thats what the digital goods people said in the ebay forum it looks like http://forums.ebay.com/db2/thread.j...671814&start=80 they get a warning message), so I think domains will be safe IMO : )

I just spoke to a sales rep who gave me a canned message saying that That is correct we are no longer allowed to list domains for sale due to abuse of the feedback system.

Thats real BS as I can't see why anyone cant just create a diffrent fake product and then make a new account and give positive feedback. Sure your out paypal fees but I could have 1000 feedback for alittle under 100$

Hmmm.....I have not received notice that domains were included and my eBay store revolves around domain sales? If eBay is including domains, they have not told their tech support.

I am unaware of a change, but my department does not deal with policy questions. I would recommend sending an email to our Trust and Safety department for more clarification and they would be able to give you the best answer on that.

11:56:00 PM Customer4letterdomains
Can you connect me with someone whom does know this information.

11:57:17 PM AgentGrant
There isn't anybody on chat that could answer that question. Our Trust and Safety department would be able to address it best and they are through e-mail primarily.

There are two different posts online right now from chat transcripts. One representative states we can sell domains. The other states no. I plan on posting this transcript online in a domaining forum. So, according to you, there is no policy that your aware of and the other support representatives would not know?

11:59:57 PM AgentGrant
I do not know the answer to that question. Our Trust and Safety department would be able to give you the answer to that.

12:00:55 AM Customer4letterdomains
can you provide their email address.

12:02:13 AM AgentGrant
you can email them here. http://pages.ebay.com/help/contact_inline/index.html

12:05:29 AM AgentGrant
Is there anything else I can help you with?

It is totally typical that live (sic) help at ebay would be clueless. Half of them probably do not know what a domain is.

I suspect, since the intent is to prevent issues regarding feedback on infinitely duplicatable items, that domains will be in the clear. Wonder if they will do anything about the 1 cent recipe sellers?

raredn, yes some changes on ebay are looming...as well as to the industry as a whole. We've been lobbying for quite some time now not only with ebay but paypal as well. It really all comes down to two simple words we must define: 1) Intangible Goods and
2) Intellectual Properties. How are these defined? If you owned paypal, would you not also steer clear of such vague terms? Yet, paypal realizes the volume of dollars that currently pass through the world of domaining and it would be bad business sense to ignore the market, and possibly conquer it! But also understand that deciet, scammers and other bad guys must be eliminated if a paypal system is to entrust all dominers. With a secure system in place, I do believe escrow services may become as scarce as a 2L.com Transition may be a bitch, but I believe smooth sailing after that. What choice do we have. Jump on the bandwagon or keep running from scam-scum!

Seems some here are confused about the computer category for domains thinking this is something new. No its not. I have always listed my domains under the computer category and you still can, so domains have not been affected.

Ebay is getting tired of the rip offs.

Every downloadable tape, movie or piece of music may be pirated or may be over stated and the feedback system is getting over worked, making the staff of Ebay spend too much because of these abuses Imo.

You more than likely spoke to a "newbe" rep who is still in shock over the incedent that occured on ebay two weekends ago where some wingnut bid on some 300 domains with no intention of ever following through...we all know who got f...ed. Nonetheless, I lost 6 sales to an idiot. (How'd the rest of you fare? You'all had more going that weekend than I did) It's kind of like the squirrels got into the silo...daddy! get the gun!

Seems some are confused? I think most are confused. Your point is RIGHT on! And that's why "domains" have been lumped into that category, yet one cannot "pirate" , illegally copy, infringe, illegally download nor libel XYZ.com. There are no illegal Chineese reproductions of XYZ.com, no lead paint XYX.coms, no XYZ.coms being sold on ebay...unless it's XYZ.com (See my ebay auction here) (I wish!) Until we make these people understand that XYZ.com is as unique of a piece of property as my property on Lake Shore Drive, they'll never understand...it has its' own unique address and only one! I'm on this BIG time! I'll keep y'all informed yet may need some lobbyin' help. Although I think I'm making a crack in the ice. Stay tuned!!!!!

Wow, this is news to me.

It seems that there are mixed ideas as to whether this truely effects DN's or not.

Good thing I list my DN's for sale on Ebay in a classified format anyway:)

Some people use Ebay as their main place to sell DN's. So for them I can see how this is a crappy move by Ebay.

I list domain classified ads and get alot of response from those too. Ebay isn't as bad a domain aftermarket as you would think.
