Hi
Let me know if I can do something here.
I got a mail 2 weeks ago from someone who was interested in one of my domains.
He said he is a student and he has only $150.
The end of the story we agreed on $250 and I sold him the domain.
Now I see in the whois that it is a big Job/Career comapny
in HongKong.

Well...$250 is ok but I want to know if u guys had bad expirience like that.

Well, there is really NOTHING that you can do about that..... he used a well known tactic.

You shoudn't believe what everyone says on the internet

You sold it for $250, which isn't bad. Sometimes it can be hard to check people out properly, and I understand what it feels like when that happens.

a hard lesson learn... there are always some who use all methods to cheat and get cheaper domains....sorry for your "loss"

not really cheating, I mean you don't know that the company doesn't want to spend much on the domain....

Who knows, perhaps the student sold it over to that company right away for more, you can't blaim him ATM, imo :?

When I sell a domain, I only sell if I am 100% comfortable with the selling price.

Sneaky negotiating on their part, though there's not really anything you can do about it. Would you have sold it for more if you knew it was a big company interested in it?

didn't it sound a bit weird if he said that he had only $150, but he was still offering $250. Where did that $100 come from?

Everyone wants something for less. You have to sort of feel the person out. I think even Donald Trump would start out with a lowball offer.
They only want to see how knowledgeable you are about the domain in question or domains in general.
Ultimately, it's up to you to judge the value of the domain in your eyes. If you're comfortable with the selling price, then it was a good sell.
Just learn from it and go on.
Good luck with your future sells.

^ Good point, IMHO.

How did you receive the $250 cash/Paypal/etc. from the student ... and how did the transfer/push/escrow/etc. take place (and was there any fee for this transaction)?

What is the domain name?

Seems there is a lesson here, perhaps even more than one ... but I'm trying to put my finger on it (them), and on which sides of the transaction in my view. Generally, I'd agree that it's sneaky on their part ... but I'm also trying to uncover as to whether it may have, in fact, been another domainer making the offer (how adept were they at payment and transfer, for instance (see above)?). RJ's point as to whether you'd have sold or not ... knowing that a BiG company had potential interest (versus a student) is also extremely interesting.

Hmmm, could even become my favorite thread for this '05 Labor Day! :yell: :talk:
Thanks much for the input, thoughts.

Had a similar one recently - "I am a student and can only afford x$'s" - I replied with "I am a businessman and will only sell for xx$'s" - I did not sell the name as you did so who is correct?
If you are happy with the price then just move on - if not let it worry you for a short while and then move on!

I,too, think I had these guys, or someone like them, make a bid on 3 .bz domains on www.sedo.com. They wanted to give me $160 a piece for 3 .bz domains. Well, for a .bz, Sedo charges $150, I would have made $10. I got the "I'm a poor student" bit. I just said $250 apiece. Didn't lose any money, but had to wait a month, because Sedo feels the buyer deserves a month to make up his mind.

I would confront him via email, if you are 100% sure he owns/runs a big biz. and lied straight out about it to you just to make you feel bad and sell him the name at a reduced price.

I don't really think that would help, at all. It would just be a waste of time on both ends. :|

I go shopping for i.e. new funiture and never buy without any rebate. There is only a deal when both sites feel happy with the price.
Donยดt think you sold the name only for $250 because you felt sorry with the "poor student", did you? So, if you were happy with the price in the first place it should not bother you anymore if it was a lie...(even though it is not nice to find out afterwards that you MIGHT have been able to get more for the name )
