Available 3 & 4 letter domains

I've been searching for 3 letter available domains .com, .net, .org using software, websites like DomainTools.com, DomainBot.com, etc. but whenever I find one that's "available", go to GoDaddy or other registers to double check availability, it's always unavailable! What's the deal here??? Are these 3 letter "available" names only available for people that pay high prices or what? Doesn't make sense how it says it's available & it's not.

3 letters are all gone for .com,.net,.org,.info,.biz,.mobi,.us - so don't waste time with them.

4 letters .com - 88% gone

I prefer using instantdomainsearch.com - they are quite reliable in telling if somethings available. (Nothing's perfect though)

Thanks for the reply. Just checked out the site, it also says that those domains are available just like the others, but when you go to any of the registers to register, it's always unavailable. Doesn't seem to make any sense how when you research on sites that aren't registers or use software, then go to registers, they're always taken.

domaintools when domain has no dns's set shows this domain as available,
maybe other services too.

For 4-letter .com's, try http://dyyo.com. They update their lists daily.

Would any of the LLLL.com that are all crap letters be worth anything? I presume anything decent would be gone.

Also, if you had a choice between a crap LLLL.com, eg zqvq.com & an ok sounding pronouncable LLLL.net, which would you recommend?

What type of prices are the LLLL.net going for these days?

3 letter .com/.net/.org etc are placed in backorder and are registered again the SECOND they drop. Don't waste your time trying to reg one -- backordering is your 100% ONLY hope.

4 letter com/net are reg fee/$20 at best unless it's a word. I had GERB.NET and it sold for pennies... there are still too many left.

backorder sometimes does not do the job, you may also consider snapnames.

I was referring to those kinda services... I guess I wasn't specific enough. :)

But yes, your chance of finding a 3 letter major ext. domain available to register on-the-spot are 100% impossible... or at least 99.999999%, which aren't any better odds than 100% in this game.

Forget LLLL.net I do not think this one will fly for reselling unless premium.
There are still a few LLLL.com names in the muck worth having if you are prepared to root around and some drops can be picked up as well at interval.
I noticed that 3 LLLL names which I sold on cheaply recently picked up double reg fee in a np auction for a reseller....no they weren't like zqvq.com!

you should hold your name until the countdown finishes (if ever).
