Are you mainly a buyer or a seller?

From my experience here, most of the people here at NamePros are mainly sellers. I know there are some pretty wealthy people on NamePros though who spend on some nice domains. What are you? If you don't fall into the typical category of buyer or seller then explain what you do here.

Im mainly a seller, in ways i dont have the guts to overly buy - though if i see i bargain i'll take it.

I'll always buy a cheap script that will help me, but talking $$$ i mainly sell.

I dabble - as pointed out in your other thread ;) But i mainly buy from here..always looking for a highly brandable ".com" either for me or people i know, to (usually) develop or just sell on.

They are so rare though. I really think many domainers need to properly gen up on what "branding" really is, and not what it's "assumed" to be. Actually i'll add my thoughts on what makes a "brandable" domain while i am here:

1) Catchy, must stick in the memory within 7 impressions
2) Preferably short, usually one word or "devised" word
3) Mustn't be easily confused with another word/term
4) Must be easily spelled (with no explanation needed)
5) English (unless specifically targetting a niche population)
6) Must be ".com", (or at least have the .com available to reg)
7) Must have zero competition in terms of "similar" names
8) Mustn't have a very common typo (unless the typo is available to reg)

Traffic and visitors is irrelevant. Type-ins handy but not important.

That's usually guarded information. Think about it. If a person advertised he was a serious buyer, and then showed interest in another NP'ers domain, that NPer would double their price. I'm sure to some, it's hard enough getting domains for fair prices in the "Domains Wanted" section.

I doubt you'll get a lot of responses on this one. ;)

Cheers

Thats true to a degree, but i bet most domainers probably dont care too much if they miss a domain unless its an unusually rare one, in which case their usually bidding against other people anyway. I think its largely a buyers market these days.

I register a lot of domains with the hope that the name will appreciate after a few years, but I am not a buyer (buy from others). I would like to sell but I have not sold one yet.

I'm pretty sure that anyone who ends up at NamePros is a serious seller, most strait up buyers just lurk around Sedo or drool over names at GreatNames.com.

I've only bought a domain from another person in NP$. So I guess I'm mainly a seller (although I have a tough time selling stuff most of the time lol). But if I see a good deal I'll jump on it.

Neither buyer or seller be.
I think that it's a matter of emphasis- many of us wear both hats- we just tip them a little bit differently.
For me, it's a dynamic process that changes as "the force" changes. How active I am as a buyer is dependent upon how active my sales have been. If sales have been good, I'll turn on the buyer button and scout around. I will cash in on an investment name or two, from time to time, usually, to buy other name/s for a project or area of research I am working on. I buy domains as investments, stricktly for resale, I buy domains to develop for the purpose of resale and I buy to develop websites. Whatever hat I happen to be wearing on any given day, depends upon what's on the plate and what needs attending to.
