I don't follow .us prices that closely but I know some of you do. Are .mobi worth more than their .us counterparts?

I'm not talking about the future here just the present. For instance would sex.mobi or sex.us fetch a higher price in your opinion? How about a random LLL?

.US domains.US domains
This morning I noticed that 'Video.us' was sold on Afternic for $75,000

I'll put myself out on a limb here, I think 'Video.mobi' which is a premium will at least
double that price once it's released for auction.

So, I guess my answer is 'yes' to your question.

I have 6 oranges, will you take them in exchange for 12 apples? :) :p

I get your point, .us and .mobi are not the same thing. Just like .eu and .org or not the same.

So given that they are not the same, how do you think keyword and LLL values would compare? Generally speaking?

I could tell you the average price for a dozen apples vs the average price for a dozen oranges in exchange for your thoughts :D

I saw that too, which is why I made this thread. The .us has been around a long time so I was surprised to see such a great keyword go for that price in the extension. It made me wonder if the .mobi has already surpased the .us in such a short time.

I have not seen very many high sales amounts for .us names compared to .mobi and the highest selling .mobi is much higher than the highest selling .us. I think sex.mobi would sell for much more than sex.us. Also, .mobi is for anyone in the world, but .us is for the U.S.

.mobi is worth far more, of course. the proof is there
up until now, .us has been an unsuccessful cctld tbh
there have been a couple of high reported sales. video being far & away the highest
it will increase in value over time , of course, but they are incomparable imo

Wow, didn't know that. No wonder there are so many people that are so spiteful regarding .mobi.

Could you imagine investing heavily in .us and not investing at all during the .mobi landrush? That would have to hurt.

We should be extra nice to those poor souls when they show up here in the .mobi sub forum :D

The answer is YES

The value amongst domainers and speculators has led to .mobis increase in value that has surpassed .us. I still think .us will increase in value, and .mobi will need to prove itself outside of the domainers universe. What will the average user do? Will the .mobi become the default ext? ...

Should be an interesting ride....

no please, lol
DO explain, we'd love to hear.
Unless you're gramatically challenged
.us is a cctld. not very successful either. try & compare it to .co.uk or .de
.mobi is a tld & in a few months has eclipsed .us
they are incomparable imo, like i said
.us will however continue to increase in value, but never set the world alight

I am for both...but as long as countries (ie, .us, .de, .eu, .jp, .ca) continue to restrict the registration of those domains vs. .mobi being universally available, then the two are hard to compare and should not be compared in the first place.

When countries start taking down borders (borders on the internet???) then perhaps they can experience some growth. But do we really need 256 domain extensions to begin with?

I live in North Carolina, the land of 77 different license plates for one state. Everyone want's their own brand and own identity. I can no longer tell where half of these damn vehicles are from and they are my neighbors!

i think so!
maybe the dotmobi will be the 2nd popular domain in the world.

.us are way better. Shorter and more professional looking. Plus dot mobi is only good for cell phones.

I'd venture that .mobi is doing better but and this is a big but, if the Americans ever take to their own tld like the Germans, Canadians or Brits do, then all bets are off. The time will come when big American business starts using the .us domain. Americans are so patriotic I'm very surprised that .us is where it is still.

The tipping point is coming for .us - it may be the most underrated extension on the market imo. There could be more money to be made in .us than .mobi going forward. .mobi is seeing inflated pricing right now whereas the .us is a veritable bargain.

Now of course neither hold a dime to the .ca LOL!!

Problem is, Americans think they've already had their own tld for a long time: .COM! Which of course isn't true, but I think it'll be a hard perception to overcome...

Well said. That's why having a diversified portfolio is crucial for the long run. I'm not hesitating to go after either one when it comes to good keywords, dictionary words, or easily brandable product.

The answer is YES

I agree...LLL is usually a good indicator for extension value and strength. Obviously there is more to it but to simplify the answer. YES...mob is worth more than .us but that may not be the case for ALL .us names nor for the future.

I like both...

Of course, I support and develop .mobi, but I am also a big fan of .us and see a good future for it. The recent sale of video.us is nothing but good news for the extension.

The only thing that I don't like about .us is that private registrations are not allowed. I think that you should have that option available to you if you wish.
