Hello NamePros!
By popular demand, we have launched a dedicated feedback thread for Afternic, the GoDaddy-owned domain name marketplace.

We have created this thread as a way for you to tell us what works, what doesn't work, and what features you'd like to see at Afternic (please be constructive with your feedback). We're looking forward to hearing from the domain investment community to help us shape the future of Afternic.

We will also be sharing Afternic product updates in this thread.

Please note that this thread is not meant for support. Please email our support team at [email protected] for assistance.

@GoDaddy You should seriously reflect on how often Sellers are being frustrated, and whether this is the direction you want your business to take. I'd much rather be handing out compliments to you every day, just like I often do in the Atom.com thread. Their development team reads along quietly and fixes things promptly, often without anyone having to beg for attention.
I suspect they'll only think about doing anything when it starts hurting their hip pocket significantly.

Sorry to hear that, Gabriel. Feels like the kind of thing that starts small and ends up owning your whole afternoon.

Do AN brokers try to get an offer from buyers if the price is out of budget?

Almost all of my stalled leads look like this, here's 3 from just now. Immediately go engagement > too high > mark stalled, then end of comms. I feel like the pattern isn't indicative of trying to get an offer once they decline the BIN, but obviously I have 0 clue since I can't see.

But if I were a broker and made contact my immediate next question would be if they had a budget in mind, or if they wanted to give an amount they're comfortable with spending to bring back to the buyer. Right?

Yes they do, unless it's a penniless hobo, then they don't.

On my inquiries I get plenty of offers and counter offers, but I also have at least a 4-figure minimum bid so there a level of "weeding out" that automatically dissuades many of the hobos you're getting. Just recently, I sent the broker a $6000 price and the buyer countered at $4000, so I accepted it and bought more domains.

If you roll around with a small 'minimum offer', then expect a lot of gypsies, tramps and thieves to come calling with only the change jingling in their pockets. And do you really want to hear that someone offered you $50 for a domain?

If it's a valid offer that at least comes within shooting distance of your price, then the Afternic brokers will definitely pass it along.

Any domain at Afternic should always have a commensurate 'minimum offer'. For low-end, at least $500. For mid-range. $1000-$5000, high-end $10,000+ and true premium 1-words would be $100,000 and up.

That's my one big gripe with Atom - the minimum offer is an account-wide setting and no matter how many times I/we ask for it, the option is much promised, but never appears.

Here's a good interview from Andrew at @DomainNameWire - I didn't realize it was as complex of a process.

I also think Andrew did a great job of probing and asking questions but feel there was a little bit of deflection. Think they could have expanded a bit further but sheds more light.

I don't understan why there's so much secrecy in the first place. They could show a heck of a lot more without losing the deal on the AN platform without risk of losing the sale (assuming that's the reasoning)

I use Request Price personally, so min offer isn't really as relevant, but I do have them to weed out lowballing. I've also sold several using AN with negotiations, but the vast majority (I avg about 20 leads/wk) that go to stalled look just like this, to where it essentially would be impossible for the broker to have asked for an offer.

I wish they would just show the conversation and bleep out contact details. Problem solved - and likely saves the brokers a ton of time dealing with messages from curious domain owners.

Why does GoDaddy make it difficult to contact them?

They have a live chat option that has been deactivated.

Other websites have the Mail symbol to make it super easy for people to reach them via email but NOT GoDaddy.

I can't find a single email that works.

Meanwhile, I'm stuck with a domain name about to expire which I can't transfer because the Auth Code is incorrect.
Does GD not provide an option for you to generate a new Auth yourself? If not, that sucks. I thought they used to, but I must admit that I haven't had a domain with GD for years (which makes life so much less stressful) ;)
And yeah, one of the issues I had was that their chat support always seemed to be unavailable in my geographic location, while email support was either unresponsive or had no idea...

They don't have that option.
Would have made life easier.

I have domains there only because of auctions and closeouts.
Otherwise, nothing would make me use GoDaddy as my registrar.

Yeah, I hear ya. I resolved never to buy from GD regardless. For me, there is enough inventory elsewhere and I'm happy to do without the issues. I don't watch any of their listings, thus I don't know what I'm missing out on.
But I can understand why you would buy there, which then necessitates the transfer out.

They might have added the ability to have a Min-Offer at the domain level (I have not tried this yet, but I saw an option a few days ago while updating a few names).

Go to domain listings, put a checkmark next to the name, and a popup on the right if you scroll down there is a "Set Min Offer Price"

Then you should understand that your use of Request Price will automatically create an avalanche of Stalled transactions, as any Tom, Dick or Harry can hit the request button with the change in their pockets. And they do, they really do.

It's just the nature of the beast when you employ a Request Price, as hobos are sure to follow. I can remember back in the day when GD used a $20 minimum bid and each day I would inundated with $20 offers, to the point where I ignored them all until a buyer had grown enough brain cells to made a reasonable offer.

Using Make Offer in tandem with a high-enough Minimum Bid streamlines things greatly, as it weeds out all the losers, feebs and deadbeats, and creates much higher-level leads.

Wow, thanks for that update and this has to be a relatively new addition, as I've been checking every once in a while to see if it's been added. I have been off for the last 2 weeks, so maybe they snuck it in during my break. :xf.grin:

Does Afternic still cancel LTO sales within the 60-day new reg lock period? I have one such sale, but the Afternic agent hasn't responded yet.

How have others handled such sales here. Do the buyers come back?

Yes they still cancel these sales.
I really don't understand why do they allow that in the first place.

At least now they are informing the buyer about the reason of the cancelation, and that he can still buy the name without LTOs...
