Hello NamePros!
By popular demand, we have launched a dedicated feedback thread for Afternic, the GoDaddy-owned domain name marketplace.

We have created this thread as a way for you to tell us what works, what doesn't work, and what features you'd like to see at Afternic (please be constructive with your feedback). We're looking forward to hearing from the domain investment community to help us shape the future of Afternic.

We will also be sharing Afternic product updates in this thread.

Please note that this thread is not meant for support. Please email our support team at [email protected] for assistance.

Okay...I've had about enough of 'The Brokers'. (think I'll write a TV pilot named this)

Negotiated on a name...got the feeling the buyer was at his max. Told the broker to go back and accept their last offer and I explained why. The broker said 'lets wait...let them think about it'.

Want to guess the ending? Lost a xx,xxx sale.

That was a period of time ago. So I noticed a lot of activity on a name that a buyer made a lowball offer on (name priced xx,xxx and they offered low x,xxx).

I reached out to the broker and let them know I was lowering the price a significant amount (enough to make the buyer pull the trigger) and all I get is radio silence. Are they working part time? Do emails and messages get delivered once weekly to save server space?

If it did not cause me financial stress, it all might be funny.

I want to add a few things. I'll still use the Godaddy/Afternic landers for names I've got priced. Brand recognition plus a fully automated checkout system are a couple of reasons why.

The 'make offer' portion is what has failed me.

The broker (1st one) involved is/was one I consider to be one of the better ones. This broker is one I'd work with in the future.

The second broker is one that has never achieved a sale for me but has always responded quickly in the past.

So to recap, the brokers keep chasing leads for domains that are no longer in the portfolio, yet they're noticeably lax when it comes to following up on serious leads that actually deserve attention.

Dramatic music... video of gold coins tumbling off a conveyor belt and slipping through the fingers of the dark gloved hands of an unseen person... whispered intro... "The ones who make you...(pause) BROKER!"

Kind of...

In the case of the 'almost sale' the broker thought another increase was possible. I agreed but got one of those feelings shortly after and gave the instruction to take the last offer. The broker miscalculated and wanted to wait. The loss of funds was and is not good...the lack of acknowledgement by the broker that an error was made is salt in the wound.

In the case of the second incident, Godaddy/Afternic should have a response system that lets a seller know if the broker is 'out of the office' or otherwise will not respond quickly...you know, like an autoresponder.

I see you’ve already handled the ‘Done’ badge for us on this one ;)

Even though the 'live' evidence was cleared when you deleted and re-added the names, we may still be able to investigate what happened by checking the listing history and logs for those specific examples.

If you're willing to share a few of those sample domains via DM, we'd like to have the team look at the historical data

I documented with multiple screenshots and sent to my rep, Aaron, before resolving the issue myself.

Sold and transferred 2 domains to Afternic on January 8, and the first one got paid on January 9 while the other still has a blank spot in the Payout Date field. Inquiries are returned with the same generic "still finalizing payment" response.

The Offers are stacking up at Afternic, and the brokers can send as many "update emails" are there are grains of sand on the beach, but I'm not transferring another domain there until this gets figured out.

I've pretty well given up on getting paid, and I hope to at least get this domain back at some point.

I think the issue is they have an automated emailer at certain intervals - 6mo, 12 mo, etc...

My guess is the automation checks if the name is still listed on Afternic -- probably by another person who either bought your name, or picked up a dropped domain name and listed it under their own account. Afternic should have the automation also check if it's being listed in the same account. If it's a different account, they should stop sending the automated email.

I'll go even farther and say they should stop emailing even if it's still in your account as I had names where things 100% didn't work out sales wise and they continued to automatically email that failed buyer for many years. Afternic should have an opt in or opt out option in our accounts like 1) Continue to annoy failed buyers 2) Let failed buyers now live in peace and stop the automated harassment :xf.eek:

Maybe they will be back. But never good to have the buyer that close and they fade away. I miss the Dan direct communications with the buyer. We could feel what was going on and make the best decision quickly.

The difference for me on SS compared to AN and Atom, my 400 names I got listed on SS, 240 got at least one direct look over the past day. It's easy to check domain name visits from yesterday and all time with one click.

All of my sales are from Afternic so far, but I expect that to change, since my DNS is now pointed to SS and I can list lower sale prices, being their commissions are so much lower at 5%.

I think the exact same thing each time a new zombie lead is exhumed from the grave.

And I have NEVER EVER made a sale (or even received a new offer) from these "old lead" emails and I would imagine the closing rate is virtually zero.

Guess what these characters are. At least one of them is a small case 'L' and at least one of them is a large case 'i'.
Screenshot 2026-01-24 185812.png

PLEASE Godaddy/Afternic, adjust your system to designate between lower case 'L' and upper case 'i'.

Neither do I. Wondering if anyone ever..
My last AN sale was in July 🤯
Hopefully SS filled the gap.
