NamePros is full of tales of mistakes made and mistakes to avoid. Personally, I have made my share of mistakes. This post is about the mistakes I made during the last six years. While I won’t cite specific cases, the article is also informed by mistakes that I have read on NamePros.

When following domain name sales on NameBio, certain sales seem surprising. In some cases, the price was due to a strong link set. Also, now and then, it might be a domain name that was let to expire by mistake and the owner needs to bid to get it back, or an existing business may be bidding on...

What makes you bid on a domain at auction?
Besides the usual suspects like Age or Length or extension .com being the king or niche or if it's expired or owned by another domainer or "ear test"? and of course Namebio data.
What other variables do you factor into whether you will bid on a...

What factors would you use to measure the rareness of a domain?
Currently considering a combination of the following:
character count (the fewer the better)
TLD desirability (.com > .io)
age (how long ago was the domain first registered)
real English words
What else should be considered? How...

How do you determine the age of a domain? By when it first register or by the date you register?
For example, I have a domain that was registered 16 years ago. But I got it last night after it dropped.
So, is the domain 16yrs old or 1age day old?

Surely the end goal for most is to sell a domain to an end-user for the highest possible price?
Almost all end-users are either oblivious or simply do not care about age (Obviously there are some exceptions).
I understand there's a certain level of 'collectors' mentality amongst the community...

Based on a recent discussion here about domain age, I would like to propose the community adopt more succinct terminology to describe aging.

I noticed Flippa advertises the domain age as when I purchased the domain. Is the true domain age when it was first ever registered? I have some that I have purchased that are 5-13 years old (some were active websites at one time and have DA/PA and links).
