Hello,

It's been a few weeks since the new gTLDs were allocated so I thought it would be interesting to post some charts with current registration figures. Here they are.
Note that some TLDs are not open to the public yet. The zones then typically contain nothing more than a few test domains including nic.gtld...

However, if you have bought domains in a particular TLD, you can see how it's been doing so far vs other TLDs :)

And to think, multi-billion and million dollar companies and businesses, didn't put any thought or research into this scenario.
1. .mobi supposedly couldn't fail because it was 'backed' by heavyweight like google nokia visa etc.
But it's not like those industry giants succeed at everything they do... failures are part of doing business.

2. .tel has got millions in funding.
A look at .Tel’s 14 year, £25 million journey
But any seasoned domainer could figure out this thing was DOA even before it hits the shelves.
You find that clever ? I don't :]
But the registries are like the newbie domainers, with blinders on, big dreams and oblivious to the past. They firmly believe they will succeed where others failed.
Just because you are an investor with money doesn't mean you have common sense. And it's probably OPM anyway (other people's money)

You've said that point many times, except it doesn't hold up much. As if products that came to market haven't failed before, or companies don't go bankrupt. Please show me the research into .boo or does all it take is somebody on the internet saying we did research. Is that all it takes to impress you?..
So you feel that 600+ multi billion/million dollar entities are all bringing a (the same) product to market at the same time, that may fail, but it's ok as it's just a 'shot in the dark' marketing exercise. Wonder what the sales pitch was, and what all those investors reaction was like when they were told there would be 'no' market research into the growth time frame, client acceptance, feasibility of success etc.

My proof is that most 'all' big investment corps and businesses 'always' have and do market research etc, before investing in any product or business. Now, what is your proof they didn't?

And yes, my point does hold, and it's obvious (and this is not a shot!) that you don't run a business.

sure. if im starting a restaurant and i go to godaddy.com im definitely going to check the "registration numbers" on .restaurant before i register one.

dude, you're in da bubble. take a step out..

So you're a restaurant owner? I thought you were a domainer.
Restaurant owners would probably get theirname.com, probably wouldn't even know that extension exists. Try to do some actual research, try looking for local restaurants in your city and see what they're doing.

I asked you for it before, have you read this research? Do you have a link to it? Do you know what marketing is? Do you know that some companies might say they do research to make investors feel good about buying? It obviously worked on you, look how much you repeat it. Did that ever cross your mind? So what you're telling me is you believe that there is market research out there that said, you should bring .boo to market? Really?

I have no idea what kind of research they did or didn't do because I haven't seen it. I'm a seein' is believin' type of guy. Are you a, I'll take their word for it type of guy, it's not like they're trying to sell me something.

you're talking in circles. focus. the point is end users dont care which gTLD has "the most registrations" so as long as the TLD exists thats all that matters. there isnt a time limit. they're not going to look into the registration #'s...

ive already said if you're trying to make money with new gTLD as a domainer you've got an uphill battle with the market so saturated. you talk about this stuff like its a religion and you need to take one side or the other or something..

sure, ill do research on what people have done in the last 3 months.. that should give me an indication what will happen in the future now that 1,000some options are available. next ill research which bulletin board systems were most popular 20 years ago..

I am focused, you're the one who seems to be hopelessly lost. Stuff like - "so as long as the TLD exists thats all that matters" ? I think businesses might disagree.

Other options are nothing new, you've been just getting overly excited about the flood of them. And now with the numbers don't matter, I think you thought they would be doing better.

.coop, .aero and .post still exist - have been out 10+ years and have far less registrations than any gTLD out. its a pipe dream thinking the majority are going to be deleted from the root.

.post, that's one I've not even heard of until just now LOL. A quick read shows its been out a few years and is ultimately bankrolled by the UN. GTLDs don't all have a sugar-daddy.

First, provide a list of these billion dollar companies that use these knockoffs for their businesses....
Well Amazon, and Google had to pay 185 Large, for each extension they applied for. You think they just picked a bunch of names out of a hat, and said let's just throw a couple mil at what ever name is picked?

This is really funny this - 'I'm right, no, I'm right' back and forth on all this gtld crap. The bottom line is they are here, they are not going to go away, ever!, no matter how many 'theories' or 'past examples' one wants to use to punch holes (that only they see) in the viability of them. Complaining and trying to prove and convince other domainers of their lack of need or survivability is one big pointless and futile effort. Time would be better used convincing the registers and the general public of ones 'thoughts' of, or on, them.

sure, businesses want them all to be taken by domainers.

they'd go - hmmmm this particular gTLD has only 1,400 registrations so i better stay away from that one - good keywords might be available.

OH HEY LOOK - heres one with 120,000 registrations. thats more like it! do you see how completely backwards your thinking is?

S..

I have no idea what kind of research they did or didn't do because I haven't seen it. ...
Bingo! So how do you know what their 'plans' for their long term course of action and survivability is of isn't?

Good keywords "might be available" haha, be real. Smart businesses go with what works.

That's on you, you keep bringing up, not knowing yourself what it said but taking it like it's gold. I don't need to know their long term plans, doesn't matter. I can simply look at the words. If you look at old posts, I was joking on .kitchen and .voyage., they have 2900 and 1800 regs. Not a surprise.

right, all businesses are "smart" and not down for trying something new.

that theory again..

Why would I have to read it? I not the one telling others they're gonna fail, there's no need for, no one will use/buy them. I also don't tell other to buy them either, so, no need for me to read them for that either.

That's just a stupid question. You keep bringing it up, a few times now as if it is supposed to mean something. So if you do that, don't you want to know what you're bringing up? Don't you want to actually read the research? It's a sheepish mentality if you don't.

right, all businesses are "smart" and not down for trying something new.

that theory again..

Successful businesses tend to be, that's why most are using.........

It's obvious you guys look more at and get sucked in by marketing, instead of the actual market, numbers etc, that's where the truth lies. Nobody is saying anything new at this point, now it's sit back and watch what happens. And to this point it doesn't look good. And you know this because mj was the first to post after the posting of numbers, trying to act like they don't matter. You know they suck and you also know they're a pretty poor investment for most domainers.

Seriously??? . I bring it up because that is what businesses do!! They research markets and product feasibility before they invest in and commission a project. If you don't know that, or do any research yourself before you buy something or spend a butt load of money... well, that answers a lot! Maybe you know more about doing blind product marketing and financial spending procedures that others and big businesses don't. Good grief!!

I literally went over that in post 30. If you don't understand that, that's your issue. You bring that up as one of the reasons why it's going to be successful, when again, they don't always get it right. Based on reality, products failing, businesses failing etc. And with this, there are going to be some duds. How is that possible tho with the research you keep bringing up? Did they............ get it wrong?

you're boring. without risk takers the internet wouldn't be what it is today. businesses use .com because its normal and they want to seem normal.

up until now, there were those 10 other weird gTLD's, those damn blue haired, tattooed, stretched earlobe freaks standing in the corner but it starts to look a bit more normal when they have 1,000 TLD friends that just joined them.. and oh yeah every registrar is advertising .everything now on the front page (so there goes the whole "how will they find out about them" theory)

Doesn't seem to be working, I guess you missed the numbers in post 1 as well?

At this point it is safe to say that end users just don't care about the new extensions in general. There is virtually no end user awareness in the real world.

The vast majority of the registrations are domainers, many being new to domains and seeing this as a second gold rush.

The clusterf*** when it comes to reserved domains (ICANN and registry), variable pricing, expensive renewals, etc. is not helping either.

Just curious, have you ever paid attention to the numbers in your domainer lifetime? You do know when new extensions come out, the big numbers tend to come early, not later. Especially with niche extensions with a limited supply of good keywords? Or does that just escape you? Every single day out, the names you can register just get worse. It doesn't take long to figure out which ones are just going to suck, no matter how much time elapses. It also doesn't take much to figure out which ones will be duds, even before they hit the market. Don't need some million/billion dollar company research to figure it out.

I am just pointing out the current reality. You are the one who is projecting the future.

Will end users adopt the new extensions in mass? Maybe. Maybe not.

Unless there is some type of normalization of the process I don't really expect many end users to be that interested. They are busy running their business. It is confusing enough for domainers nevermind to people in the real world.

JB.. you're talking in circles again. numbers dont matter to end users.

someone considering registering .bike isnt going to check how many domains are registered. you're in da domainer bubble.

I think you might be trapped in a new gtld marketing bubble. Keywords matter to end users. I guess you think if/when they finally get around to figuring out they're available, that somehow those keywords are going to be magically there for them? Please, list some great .bike names that some bike company can hand register now/much less in the future, with your next post.
