Dotster.com is now running a special promotion on new .COM domain registration – just from only $2.39 for the first year.

Currently, price is $2.99/year but you can use coupon code SALE20 to get additional discount to $2.39. This seem unlimited, can make payment with PayPal.

Hurry, this promotion won't last long.

@Michael M - I agree. Piggy-backing can be a nice cost savings, but it's the quick 60 day sale that ads effort and a little complexity.

I think this issue will effect the quick flippers the most... Luckily I tend to hold my domains for a while versus selling them wholesale to turn them quickly.

But I imagine a lot of current auctions on NPs are going to be a hassle for the sellers and winners in the meantime. Luckily we are mostly technical people and can work through this together - so it may not be too big of a deal.

Then of course there will be the few unfortunate ones that could make a big sale in the meantime, and possibly loose it do to the end user not willing to contend with the hassles of these companies.

I personally think from now on I will delay listing any names I have at these companies until I am past my 60 days so I can transfer out, or they have restored the move account function. Simple fix. I will only loose 60 days of exposure to guarantee an easy transaction for my customer.

Now to decide if I should pull down what I already have listed at marketplaces in the meantime. Then as far as my recently listed BB names go - I guess I will just roll the dice that if I sell one that the buyer will work with me and BB to get the name transferred.

@Michael M -

We appear to be going down a similar thought path on the topic. :)

I agree. The simplest solution is to simply wait out the 60 day window or list for sale knowing up front the potential transfer hurdles. The best thing about NPros is the forum collaboration. Thanks everyone for the insights!

I certainly like the $1.99 pricing (and under with coupons) when purchasing at Dotster...

@alcy - thanks for your feedback.

Appreciate your helping to clarify that the internal move Dotster-to-Dotster also changed.

I agree the 60 day wait for external Registrar pushes makes sense... but the internal one is ugh.

Either way... the $1.99 promos are terrific!

And worth the 60 day wait.

-Jim

I agree! these hickups are a tiny and hardly worth mentioning imo price to pay for the potentially huge amounts of money you can save transfering/extending domains and/or registering new ones... but.. there will always be poeple who will see things differetnly. it just isn't the majority. enjoy.

I did say save money on transfers also.. so just wanna make sure u or others are aware you can transfer into doster's sister company netfirms.com for $2 .com .. dotster doesn't offer this for transfers.. only new regs. I am sure some people on this thread are not aware of it.
cheers enjoy

apparently u can no longer push on your own to dostertodoster or dotstertonetfirms

but if you chat or email them apparently they can do it for you. for both above combos. and either inside or outside the 60 day lock.

Correct. They have now removed the facility to push domains internally, you have to contact them directly via there online support and they will do it for you. If you are selling quite a high number of domains, this could be quite time consuming and something to remember.

I'm trying to transfer a domain name to netfirms.com but I get the same offer as dotster.com, $8.29 and $5.80 if I use one of the two last coupon codes. How did you get the $2 for com transfer ? Thanks

there is no trick
its either there or not
make sure its .com
if $2 at checkout then promo active
if not, promo not active.

was there last nite. I Trasnfered 5 .com
but these promos come and go any time

in past, each time netfirms had $2 reg promo, the $2 transfer was there too.
but it's not a rule. just mostoftime type of stats.

We have been selling domains at MyDomain and pushing to buyers for months. There is no major issue. Here is the email we send to buyers that agree to purchase one of our names there....

"For immediate transfer of ownership, you simply need to set up a free account (just takes a few minutes) where the domain is currently registered. Here is the link to set up the free account: secure.mydomain.com/register/registration.bml?masters=194&flowid=21

Place any domain in the box on the right-hand side (simulation), then checkout by adding your contact details (no need to fill out the payment section) to finalize the setup of your account.

Once you receive the confirmation email with your login details, please send us your account username and we will transfer the domain name into your account.

Best Regards"

A chat rep. just told me account move is gone for good "for security reasons".
Time to move away the last domains I have with domain.com, dotster and netfirms or to sell them.
Unfortunately, when selling, the buyer will have to be involved when the "manual" move is performed.

The procedure is like this:

1.Start chat.
2. (optional) mention to domain.com/dotster/netfirms that they're idiots
3. tell them the domain you want to move and the account you want to move it to
4. Authenticate yourself (security question)
5. They will ask you to authenticate for the other account as well
(optional) a good time to remind them that they're idiots
6. Tell them the other account is an account for another person (your customer) and you can't possibly know the answer to their security question... not to mention it would be unprofessional to ask them
7. The domain will be moved out of your account (don't know where it goes -> probably to holding)
8. Tell your customer to add the domain to their account using
a. Control Panel -> "Add existing"
b. Contact support if that doesn't work
9. (optiona) Don't forget to leave a really bad feedback when you exit the chat and remind them once again in the comments that they're the absolute worst registrar ;) ...and of course ... IDIOTS

Good luck!

And pray they do not shut down their chat support option. They would need to employ couple hundreds more of these just for domain push :'(

Really dumb move on their part. I guess I'll be selling as many names as I can within the next 10 months and transfer the rest out to a better registrar next year.

well its not the best way
but it's not like you can't push.
u just can't push on your own. gotta chat. messy. longer.
but thats just if you get sale within 60 day lock. after that you don't care about push.. and just transfer out to your buyer.
so I guess that about ccovers all that then.
next.

WTF. I can't push my Dotster domain to another user at Dotser? Their chat is not working on 2 of my 3 devices, I have to "cheat" because their GUI doesn't work and raising a ticket is a pain in the ass. At least their support is good (based on my experience). I would say LOL, but it's really WTF. What were they thinking? Everyone will transfer out all the $2 domains to other registrars, and no-one will renew the domains.

Is this still working for domain push?

Another weird experience with Dotster. I was on the payment screen, and I paid with credit card. An error message came up, and it seemed that no payment was made. There was some kind of glitch with the UI, and I had to fill in the credit card data (number, expiration, etc.), but I said "shit, I'm too lazy" and I clicked on the Paypal button. The payment was successful and I registered the names. Then I received two messages from the bank, and I realized the payment was made TWICE. Okay, it may happen, I raised a ticket, they replied very fast, they are very sorry for this issue, and they told me they forwarded my request to someone else. Then I received a dumb answer that no refund can be made. I think the guy didn't even read my request. Fuck, I rewrote my original ticket, and I hope someone (who's not completely incompetent) will read it. I think I won't use their services anymore. Their support had been great, but now I have doubts :S

They do not give out refunds, instead credits must be added in your account. Try adding some domain in cart and see if you can see "credit" option?

It would be nice, but it isn't the case: "Since the domain credits are used for registration, it is not possible to issue refund or add the domain credits." I don't even understand what he's talking about.

@kaposzta So they charged you twice for the same domain/s? Once via Paypal and once via credit card? And they will not refund either payment?

Exactly. I won't give up, though :) I will annoy the shit out of them until they refund me (or plan B, I ask my bank to try to recover the money, or plan C, I leave Dotster and I tell everyone this story).
